screenshots arent handled the same as they are in windows. you have no need to use "paint" to take a screenshot in linux.

youre not making sense
gold-rot49@reddit
on linux theres standalone programs to take screenshots. to edit them afterwards you need to use gimp or something similar.
YOU ARENT MAKING ANY SENSE.

There specific app that will take screenshot and then save it as imave for you automatically. KDE have spectacle, gnome have screenshot or kooha for screen recording. Xfce have what essentially a gif maker that do the same task.
So yes you do not need paint like application for taking screenshot.

for mint, how do I capture a screen shot, manipulate it (crop, draw on it, rotate, or add text) then save as jpeg? cause I open ms paint, ctrl V, do what I need then save out as png or jpeg or tiff
whats the easiest way?

What distribution or Desktop environment you're using? This behavior you're describing is mostly dictated by the default screenshot tool bundled by either of these. Spectacle, that comes with Plasma, by default requires you to use Shift + Impr Print and it actually prompts you to do something with the picture (you can even add basic annotations right there).
