Used 3080ti vs new 9060xt

I mostly just game in 1080 but looking to go to 1440 or higher. Currently have a GTX 1080.
The 3080TI is significantly faster but.. used vs new.
PsychologyGG@reddit
GPUs usually die quickly or last years and years
If you like the idea of new I get it but the better card like you said is the 3080ti
Creative_Ship_6758@reddit
GPUs usually dont die at all in most cases the artifacts appearing on the screen and losing the display at all is caused by desotering joints and things like that those are the things that can be degrading and if its not running on max temps all the time that shouldnt even happen but the chip itself is like with cpu if you won't physically kill it it won't die not in your lifetime at least
FuzzyRun2410@reddit
My Evga 2080Super runs 100%, using it since launch and used it for mining more than a year 24/7 for Ethereum, still runs like new, just some thermal paste change and a Vbios update with the FTW model wich increased it performance lol a home run
Creative_Ship_6758@reddit
yes that's the thing a lot of people dont seam to get the gpu it self "doesn't" degrade used gpu is perfectly fine like i said there might be some issues but those are rare and easy to fix
mercsterreddit@reddit
Yeah, ok, but not everyone is equipped to take a card apart, fix stuff, add new thermal paste...
JohnyBravox@reddit
My fahter's 970 worked for 13 years and died just recently. Bought my father 3080
Bleusilences@reddit
I would take the 3080 ti over the 9060, even if the vram is a bit low on the 3080.
JohnyBravox@reddit
3080ti.
ajgonzo88@reddit
Not sure if you decided yet but a other thing to consider is power consumption. The 3080ti uses more than double the power of the 9060 xt 16g and electricity prices keep rising. Over time that 3080ti will cost you a lot more. The 9060 xt is more than capable at 1440p gaming and fsr4 is is pretty comparable to dlss4 these days. 16gb of vram also nothing to right off as plenty of newer games are going past 12gb of vram at higher resolutions
JoshLineberry@reddit
We don't care about power consumption around here son! We want more power! As Tim the tool man Taylor would say!
Super_Ad_4216@reddit
Definitely 3080ti imo. I got a evga 3080ti for 600 cad used a yr ago or so and its been amazing for me running everything at 4k.

MarkOfTheBlade@reddit
Why does everyone in this thread think the 3080 ti has 8GB of VRAM??? The 3080 ti has 12GB
Ok-Extent-7515@reddit
3080 Ti is much faster. The 9060 XT is a competitor to the much weaker graphics cards like the 4060 and 4060 Ti. For now, it's enough power for 1440p with FSR on, but game demands keep increasing.
lolniceman@reddit
Why not go for an older amd card like the 6800 xt or the 6900 xt? Cheaper than both
hurdeehurr@reddit (OP)
For the 6080 xt I would just buy a gtx1080ti which is the step up from what I have now and faster for $150. Craze how far ahead they were.
Why not the 6900xt? because they go for even more than a 3080 ti and they're slower by every metric I can find.
lolniceman@reddit
1080ti is faster than 6800 xt? Where did you see that. The 6950 xt should beat the 3090. You could find the 6900xt or the 6950 xt for 400 or less pretty easily.
hurdeehurr@reddit (OP)
Even found a 6800xt for 339 which is pretty cheap if it can hang with a 3080ti
lolniceman@reddit
6800 xt is pretty close to the 6900 xt as well. Use techpowerup or tom’s hardware for gpu comparisons, gpu benchmark is heavily biased
hurdeehurr@reddit (OP)
How can that be? Isn't it user reported? Maybe the AMD cards got optimized or something? Weird.
lolniceman@reddit

hurdeehurr@reddit (OP)
I'm starting to see some of that. The 6800 or 6900xt seem like pretty viable candidates.
lolniceman@reddit
I bought my 6950 xt used on hardwareswap. Just monitor the sub for a few days, I’m sure one of them would pop up soon. Good luck!
Also, make sure you have enough psu and heat overheat with the high end amd cards, they are as bad as the nvidia cards from 3xxx generation when it comes to power spikes. My friend has an OC’d 6900 xt that consistently uses 300+ W while gaming.
hurdeehurr@reddit (OP)
Well damn. I've been using gpu benchmark and you're right. like doing 3080ti vs 6800xt and clicking on gpu database. But watching real tests it seems like you're right.
It's hard to keep up with and i'll put the 6800xt on my list too then.
Calm_Income6781@reddit
5070
Not_goD_32@reddit
3080 ti is outright faster. By like 30% at 1080p. The 9060xt is newer, has more VRAM, and FSR4 is better than DLSS on the 3000 series. It might be harder to resell the 3080 ti in a few years. I still think it's the better option since it's all around faster. Get 3080.
hurdeehurr@reddit (OP)
Yeah the 9060xt being brand new counts for something. I like the horsepower of the 3080ti but more money for a used card is tough to wrap my head around.
Not_goD_32@reddit
I can understand that. I will say that according to this database from Techpowerup, the 9060 xt 16gb is double the speed of your current GPU, at least at 1080p. That's a pretty big step up. I'd watch some benchmarks videos from reputable channels and see if the 9060 would meet your needs at different resolutions.
Creative_Ship_6758@reddit
FSR4 is not better than dlss on the 3000 series because on 3000 series you have also dlss4 just without mfg/fg and fsr4 and dlss4 are very very similar when it comes to graphical fidelity to this point that its not really possible to differ one from another without zoom/slow motion footage
typicalcupofhotcocoa@reddit
Yea we need to know what price and if you’re getting an 8GB or 16GB 9060XT
hurdeehurr@reddit (OP)
16gb 9060xt and a basic 3080ti used from a reseller. Almost the same price.. 3080ti might still be a big more $ used.
typicalcupofhotcocoa@reddit
Personally I’d try to get the 3080ti as cheap as possible. As long as you have a decent power supply the 3080ti is a great 1440p card with good vram. If you can squeeze more money into your budget I’d go 9070(xt).
hurdeehurr@reddit (OP)
plenty of power supply. It's a slippery slope. i'm not going higher than 400. I'll stay at 1080p otherwise and keep my gtx1080. It actually runs everything I play on 1080 maxed.
typicalcupofhotcocoa@reddit
Yes I mean if you can play all the games you want at the settings you want I see no reason to upgrade.
hurdeehurr@reddit (OP)
Mostly just a mismatched system. I have a brand new am5 build and it's leaning heavy on the GPU with the cpu barely working. Not horrible and I probably will keep it running but i've also overclocked the piss out of it lol. It wont last long being leaning on like I am leaning on it.
rucekooker@reddit
Personally, I’d lean toward the 3080 Ti. I grabbed a used 3080 myself and it’s been great. To help it last, I replaced the thermal pads with a Thermalright Odin Valoe and repasted with Arctic MX-6. Temps dropped a lot and the card runs cooler overall. Especially since the 30 series doesn’t have warranty coverage anymore, there’s really no harm in repasting and repadding if you pick one up used.
hurdeehurr@reddit (OP)
I bought my 1080 used just to put a system together and honestly I like it alot for like 100 bucks. It's a am5 build so def the weak point but runs the games I like very well and in some cases maxed settings.
rucekooker@reddit
just go for the 3080Ti honestly, more performance with somewhat same price.
cuz i also went for the 3080 10GB because in my country a 9060XT is like 150% more expensive while also being like 20% worse.
RegretDeep@reddit
If it was between rtx 3080 ti and 5060 ti 16gb both at same price ... Which one?
hurdeehurr@reddit (OP)
The 3080ti in raw power is as fast or faster than a 5070. Pretty wild when you think about it.
rucekooker@reddit
3080ti for me personally
AisMyName@reddit
I got a gigabyte 3080ti off eBay, last week for $420. It works excellent. This seemed about appropriate in price based on used sales. This picking ones that have zero issues, reputable brand etc.
hurdeehurr@reddit (OP)
$400 seems about the going rate. No lower though. Not a bad price. It's just the 16gb 9060xt is brand new and $50 less. That counts for something.
If I really wanted to push it the 8gb 9060xt is 100 less and if i'm honest for 1440 is probably all I need.
seanc6441@reddit
Easy choice 3080ti assuming it's in good condition and showing no signs of issues. It's just a very good card and 12gb is just about enough. No native dlss frame gen but it gets dlss 4 upscaling.
Good for 1440p or 4k with upscaling if you optimise the graphics settings per game.
hurdeehurr@reddit (OP)
Yeah basically which do I think will be more futureproof though a new 9060xt 16gb or a 3080ti 12gb. I honestly don't have an answer.
Elitefuture@reddit
3080 ti is a lot better, but doesn't it cost like $100 more on ebay?
hurdeehurr@reddit (OP)
Than the 8gb card.. Pretty much. Than the 16gb card $50 more. They go for right around 400.
Cleenred@reddit
Regular 3080 is already faster + the 3080ti has 12 gigs of VRAM so you won't run out ever at 1440p. Slap an undervolt and lossless scaling and you call it a day.
hurdeehurr@reddit (OP)
Yeah it's a pretty big step up from the 9060xt. Just wonder if i'm overlooking a 4000 series or a 5000 series card with similar performance on the used or new market.
AlkalineBrush20@reddit
If your PSU can handle it, the 3080 Ti is faster. I got a regular 3080 coming from a 6700 XT because of better RT and DLSS, and so far it's been great. It has a faulty fan and needs new pads but those are on their way already and with some undervolt, the card doesn't go above 70C with only 2 fans while gaming.
hurdeehurr@reddit (OP)
I have an 800w not a problem there. I would probably undervolt and do some stuff to make sure it lives a long life.. new thermal paste etc. I think honestly the 3080 is enough too. I mostly just play Dayz.
ndr2h@reddit
3080ti - this card is a beast (extremely close to the 3090) and with DLSS4 it smashes games even at high res still
seanc6441@reddit
Price
hurdeehurr@reddit (OP)
both around 350-400 with the 3080ti being a bit more than the 9060xt
