Do you have Xennial lullabies?

Our first kid is due in about 3 weeks and I was wondering if any of y’all have turned songs of our era into lullabies?
My wife’s folks would sing a lot of Beatles, and I had many Muppets albums, but was struggling to think of modern songs to sing my baby. There will likely be some Promise Ring, Iron and Wine, and Blind Melon, but I bet there are goodies I’m overlooking.

Try Baby Jams by Solange Knowles

I’ve used Dreams by the Cranberries and I love you always forever by Donna Lewis.

Great choices, thanks!
cerealkilla718@reddit
Yeah "Go to fuckin bed before I beat you" was my mom's favorite.
ddayam@reddit
I sang a lot of James Taylor and The Band to my daughter when she was little. The Weight and Sweet Baby James.

Yes! 10 albums of these have been my go to baby shower gifts since my kids were in their cribs.
Grouchy-Reflection97@reddit
Beat me to it!
I don't have kids, but I do have indoor guinea pigs who are terrified of storms, fireworks, etc.
They have an 'it's ok, you're safe' playlist for such events, which is mostly white noise, but also has the Prince and Outkast Rockabye Baby albums in the mix.
(Yes, they are ridiculously spoilt, lol)
Murky_and_Lurky@reddit
Yes!! This is the best!!!
heyitscory@reddit
This is awesome. My go-to songs when someone handed me a baby were Mad World and Soul to Squeeze.
thyleullar@reddit
I came looking for this!
BananaHamPanther@reddit
My dad used to always sing Frankie Valli’s Can’t Take My Eyes Off You. I don’t have kids, but I do sing the Lauryn Hill version of the song to my cats while holding them like tiny babies.
Ok-Sign5678@reddit
Look up Rockabye Baby! It’s instrumental versions of songs from all kinds of artists and genres. We used that for our kids when they were little.
-piso_mojado-@reddit
I don’t know if it’s this one, but I once came across a channel on Amazon music that was lullaby-style instrumental versions of tool songs.
_Random_Comments_@reddit
I second this.
throwback682@reddit
I always sing Don McLean’s American Pie because it’s long af and they’re usually asleep by the end. That way I don’t risk having to think of another song when the first one ends, because I’ll inevitably choke under the pressure and not be able to think of one, stop singing, and they’ll wake up.
JosephBlowsephThe3rd@reddit
Got a cd for my sister when she was pregnant with her first. It was lullaby versions of Pink Floyd classics. The company had cds of many different artists. I seem to remember Rolling Stones & Smashing Pumpkins.
PlumSome3101@reddit
I'm partial to Hallelujah. I know that's originally Leonard Cohen but I go by the Shrek version.
Also as a mom it's been an absolute blast breaking into Bohemian Rhapsody every time my kid would call me mama instead of mom. I get that Queen is definitely not Xennial but for those of us that watched Wayne's World and got really into Queen I think it kind of qualifies. I adore the Muppet version too.
SherbertPerfect5858@reddit
I also sang Bohemian Rhapsody to my baby but had to stop with the lyrics once he was old enough to understand the words. Could still hum it though.
Neobenedenia@reddit
…movin’ to the country, gonna eat me a lot of peaches
Ginger_Snaps_Back@reddit
Funnily enough, the singer from The Presidents has a thing where he sings songs for kids, calls himself Caspar Babypants.
SherbertPerfect5858@reddit
Stompy the Bear was my kid’s fave!
Glittering-Grab7547@reddit
What? They are the same? Crazy, my daughter loves Caspar Babypants
uscarbinecal30m1@reddit
Don't know if you're familiar with country punk band Jason and the Scorchers, but their lead singer Jason Ringenberg also has a children's music alter ego as Farmer Jason.
helikophis@reddit
He’s my daughter’s favorite. I heard some of it and I was like … wait a minute … I know that guy … he’s my favorite too!!!
Independent-Pack5144@reddit
Now he records as Caspar Babypants, and my kids loved his Beatles renditions
Gravelroad__@reddit (OP)
Hah! Maybe a little Dune Buggy too
Ok-Concert-6475@reddit
I sang "Goodnight, My Angel" by Billy Joel to my daughter every night for at least 5 years.
briannadaley@reddit
Not exactly an xennial anthem, but I sang High Tide or Low Tide by Bob Marley to my kid.
Intelligent_Serve_30@reddit
I sang Bob Marley to my daughter as well but it was Three Little Birds. Such a nice chill vibe.
DaffodilLuminary@reddit
This was my song for my son, too! Another nice thing about "Three Little Birds" is that it repeats the same lyrics, so you can keep on singing it in an endless loop if you need to. ☺️
TeddyAtTheReady@reddit
Aww that’s a good one. The Ben Harper/Jack Johnson cover always gives me feels.
briannadaley@reddit
I’ve never heard that one, but Ben Harper is essential to my xennial heart! Heading to Spotify now…

Right? I saw them both separately in concert around 2008-2010 and I would love to see them onstage together if I ever got the opportunity.
Also, I bought Live From Mars on vinyl back when it was released, but I’m waiting for a special occasion to crack it open and put it on the turntable.

My first I sang Yellow Submarine one night because I was tired and couldn’t think of the lyrics to any other songs. I ended up singing it every night for 5 years
I_Dream_Of_Oranges@reddit
This was me with the Good Night song from the White Album. My kid asked me to sing her a song before bed and that was all I could think of. It ended up being our nightly ritual for years.
emmianni@reddit
My first kid scrambled my brains so badly I couldn’t think of a single lullaby. I ended up singing Beyoncé’s Flaws and All. Eventually I remembered You Are My Sunshine.
briannadaley@reddit
My kid loved Yellow Submarine as a toddler. He made friends with another tiny human at the museum one day after both boys started loudly singing it in the lobby. We ended up getting pizza with the other kid and his mom where she and I quickly deduced we had actually known each other, 3000 miles and a decade removed. She’s still one of my favorite people.
Cinderhazed15@reddit
After the birth of our daughter, the only thing that would come to my sleep deprived mind was humming the ‘pink panther’ theme…
The_Curvy_Unicorn@reddit
Hey, whatever works! A friend of mine once desperately hummed and sang our high school’s fight song to her baby. He loved it and she had to sing it for years.
PlumSome3101@reddit
Lmao this is honestly delightful. Thank you for sharing.

I sing a lot of Wilco, Brandi Carlile, Jason Isbell, and Indigo Girls to my munchkin.

delphine1041@reddit
Tom Petty's Wildflower album was my kids' nursery soundtrack for years.
Lcky22@reddit
I sang “my little buttercup” from three amigos; does that count?
Every_Instruction775@reddit
Not really Xennial songs but I always sang “Danny’s Song” by Kenny Loggins. It came out in 1971 so close enough. Very sweet song.
Adventurous_Pin_344@reddit
Not a Xennial artist per se, but I love to sing John Prine songs to my kid

Telgar321@reddit
Lower the pitch and slow the tempo of your favorite songs, hum them, and both you and baby will do just fine. For a while I worked through various TV show show themes: A-Team, DuckTales, Cheers, Golden Girls, etc. Play "Name That Tune" with your spouse while pacing around the room trying to put the baby to sleep.
ZipperJJ@reddit
Cake songs are pretty chill.

i would beatbox when my nephew was a baby and he would just look at me like 'how is this possible....how is this possible??!!'
if you want pop /rock songs, you can just search pop lullabies on youtube,.. a lot of them are instrumental but there are some ones where people are singing.

Traditional_Entry183@reddit
I sang Sweet Child of Mine to my girls when they were small.

Sad_Researcher_3344@reddit

Ravkav@reddit
Nothing Else Matters by Metallica. Used to sing that to my babies.
smokiechick@reddit
When my 20 year old was a baby, I would sing the three "traditional" ones my mom sang to me and then I would flounder. Turns out I knew all the words to Bobby McGee, which is not bad for a lullaby. Then I started singing Whiskey in the Jar... I told her father and he would sing the Pixies/Chieftain's lyrics and I was doing Metallica. She also got the Sesame Street song I Don't Want to Live on the Moon.
My little dude never liked singing. He liked the radio, but not live people singing. Santana and Prince were favorites - except Kiss. But, I wanted a bedtime routine with him so I started reading Sandra Boynton books to him. One night, just after we'd moved, I couldn't find The Going to Bed Book, so I winged it and tried to remember it. I recited that book to him every night from about 18 months until this past April. He turned 13 this summer.
Congratulations on the little one! Just remember: the days are really fucking long, but the years fly by. Stop every so often to let it all soak in.
Vivid-Imagination-13@reddit
I sing Little Black Submarine by the Black Keys all slow and bluesy. We had to tell them to stop asking babysitters for it, bc they just play the rock song and think we're crazy.
My regular rotation also includes Sitting on the Dock of the Bay, Yesterday, Blackbird, Baby Beluga, My Favorite Things, Rainbow Connection, & California Dreamin'.
Quackoverride@reddit
My poor kids got a lot of Radiohead songs as lullabies. “Let Down”, “Scatterbrain”, and “Sail to the Moon” were the ones I sang the most. “Tender” by Blur was also a go-to.
PlaceboRoshambo@reddit
My son loved Siouxsie and the Banshees and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
Expensive-Day-3551@reddit
I sang one headlight and slide, and a lot of third eye blind. And I’m now realizing maybe I’m a bad parent? None of those songs have kid friendly subject matter.
Lucky-Doubt8843@reddit
We sing a song from the little golden book "What was that!"
Day is done, little one Close your eyes now sweet dreamer Every star is a light Watching over you tonight
We sing it together every night before bed. There is a cute read along on youtube for it. We also have the book but there are many versions and the one we have doesn't include the song. It's super cute thought and my son loves it.

I sang Summertime to my daughter when she was small. The Sublime version, lol. Although I know the Porgy and Bess version well.
She showed me the Lana cover of a cover the other day and said she remembers me singing it when she was little which was weird because it "like, just came out" so I had to show her all the versions. 🥰

angry_eccentric@reddit
look up rockabye baby, they're lullabye covers of many of our fave bands such as weezer, nirvana, etc. (they have literally every kind of popular music from beyonce to queen to bon jovi to david bowie!)
gullyfoyle777@reddit
I have a dream by bad religion, One by U2, The sweater song by Weezer, Blister in the sun by Violent Femmes, Freshman by Verve Pipe, If you could only see by Tonic, Just like heaven by The Cure, Hunger Strike by Temple of the dog, The Big empty by STP, Have you seen mary by Sponge, Disarm by Smashing Pumpkins, 3 strange days by School of Fish, Otherside by Red hot chili peppers... I started singing all these and others to my kid when they were born. I also sang older stuff like Starshine Angelwine by The Strawbs or Solitude by Black Sabbath or The tide rushes in by the moody blues. Sorry if this was hard to read I'm very tired.
karatekate@reddit

When my babies and I were in the hospital after they were born, I started turning 80s hair metal ballads into lullabies. lol The one that soothed them the best/quickest became “our song”. My oldest son’s & my song is Poison’s “Every Rose Has Its Thorn”, and my youngest son’s & my song is Guns & Roses “Patience”.
SavingsMonk158@reddit
My parents used to duet the other day there was a bear. A great big bear a way up there. …. He said to me. Why don’t you run. Etc. the last verse was changed to and now it is. Your night night time. Into your cribs. You both must climb (for my older sis and I).

I used to sing Closing Time to my babies, especially after watching the video where Dan explains he wrote it about having a kid.
I'd also sing Goodnight, My Angel from Billy Joel to them. But lots of songs slowed down enough can be a lovely lullaby.
Tiny-Reading5982@reddit
When my daughter was a baby (2011/12) , I would sing slipping through my fingers by Abba, if we hold on together from land before time, forever young from the carebears 2 movie and hunger games had just come out around then so I would sing safe and sound by Taylor swift too.
Clear-Concern2247@reddit
Curtis Lowe was my go-to lullaby.
GrammaticalObject@reddit
Dead, by They Might Be Giants, was my go-to. Definitely got some weird looks from extended family for that one. But it wouldnt be the first children's song to obliquely touch upon the topic of beheading, I'd wager.
Anyway, before my daughter could talk, she was singing allong to the last two words of "or I'm still alive and there's nothing I want to do." I still hear her voice every time I hear (or think of) that line.
