So Lemmy is more of a reddit exactly for left ones or not really?

I'm Russian, so I can't be "anti trump left" or "pro trump right" or anything like it, I'm outside all of it. Also, Lemmy admins adore communism (and registration procedure implies that I should too), but unlike them I live in a country with real communistic heritage and I DON'T want to communicate inside pro-communistic communities. I just want to discuss my geek stuff with other enthusiats. Does Lemmy suit me or should I go somewhere else?

I would stay away from Lemmy.
Between the hard coded word filtering and the dev who is also an admin on one of the core instances who is known for removing content critical of China, it has concerning associations for someone with your concerns.
The main argument is that those who develop the software aren’t those who administer the platform, and that one should separate the two because it’s a decentralized platform. I, as someone with a great deal of software platform engineering experience, do not subscribe to that idea.

Removing content critical of China? Haha, that's hilarious! I'm not for or against China, but I'm against censorship based on hurting someone's fragile feelings, so it is crazy absurd
Skavau@reddit
That's only on specific instances, to be clear. Lemmy is federalised.
Skavau@reddit
Are you aware of Piefed?

Filtering words depends the instance

My bad looks like it was addressed.
Still.
I don't think tech is neutral.
I am not comfortable about tech created by people who have a bad attitude towards human rights.
Delicious_Ease2595@reddit
I'm comfortable, because it works as intended. Decentralized with free speech nature, like forums.
Blarghnog@reddit
Cool. We disagree. You clearly love it and I most certainly do not.
Stop begging for a participation award for supporting your favorite platform. Nobody cares.
calvers70@reddit
Yeah I consider myself left-leaning but that was the reason I stopped using it -- too much politics in general and not enough "normal" opinions, lost of radical ideas. Felt like that sort of place that would make me lose touch with reality if I spent too much time there

Echo chambers are really bad
TheSpartanExile@reddit
Hasn't been my experience. There's generally a better attitude toward politics since reddit is dominated by bots and employs content recommendation algorithms that promote rage engagements. Lemmy moderation is more subject to who is actually moderating each community and the platform is explicitly oriented toward tech-users. Unsurprisingly, there is a shit load of incels on there already who can easily make a space obnoxious if given the opportunity of a few overworked or sleeping mods. If you think this is "too" communist, I don't want you on there in the first place quite frankly.
It's been pretty good for hobby communities, particularly yeah tech-based ones.
FreshFudge8307@reddit (OP)
I'm out of context, why western people are so afraid of incels? Aren't they just guys without sex? What can be so devastating about them? It's not some kind of sarcasm, I'm just ignorant on that
TheSpartanExile@reddit
Incels are fascists that define their lives around women's ability to reject them. They're one of the most likely groups to be responsible for mass-shootings, regularly harass women online, and spread hateful ideology through the aggrieved entitlement of young white men.
FreshFudge8307@reddit (OP)
If they are so toxic and harass people, why don't just always reply them with a joke about their virginity? I'm my country public incels are just lolcows
TheSpartanExile@reddit
A: it wouldn't make a difference.
B: you can't "respond" with a joke when a bullet hits you.
They're ridiculed widely, doesn't stop them from doing harm.
FreshFudge8307@reddit (OP)
Well, your second amendment looks kinda crazy to me because of such things
TheSpartanExile@reddit
I didn't write it.
SuitableBank1232@reddit
Search for a Lemmy instance that suits your.
polymath_uk@reddit
This. Although good luck finding much online that isn't left of centre. In fact if you find any, let me know.

Lemmy makes "anti-trump left", look like pro-trump.... its so far left leaning.
It literally makes "extremist lefts in the US, look like trump lovers".
FreshFudge8307@reddit (OP)
Okay, but what about nonpolitical subs/instances? Are they alright or the community is crazy there and will ban me for mentioning that I'm not into their political radicalism?
polymath_uk@reddit
I run a UK based politics Lemmy instance that I have written a bot to populate with news stories from UK media. Occasionally I put comments on the stories just to make myself feel better lol. But of course, I haven't tried to promote the site (mostly it was a hobby project) so there aren other users.
giotheflow@reddit
There's dozens, maybe hundreds of communities(subs) and instances. It's free to try and free to leave. I'm in lemmy.zip, it's chill.
HTTP_404_NotFound@reddit
My experience... I'd be in a purely technical sub for either software development, or electronical, technology, etc....
And the entire conversation would get hijacked by someone running around saying fuckcars.
YMMV. Wasn't for me.
Delicious_Ease2595@reddit
Lemmy is decentralized and using activity pub you can choose or host the instance of your liking, just avoid the political instances you disagree. Even if you disagree there are similar alternatives like PieFed.
Blarghnog@reddit
I would stay away from Lemmy.
