ULPT Writing A Book: which seasoned crime "tricks" write the best?

Crime Genre: undercovers versus police versus gang drug sales, etc.:
Name some not-well-know tricks.
They may be about movements, weapons, forensics, police procedure, etc. Anything surprising to the viewer.
eg. The Wire they boarded up the houses themselves to make dumping bodies easier.
eg. Stash cars that look involved where you turn on the air conditioning, shift into neutral and push the rear console button and a shelf pops out of the dash.
Any points of interest that help the story have more hook.

It's always about the people, not technology: Greed, rats, rivalries, stupidity, jealous girlfriends....
Best "tech" tricks are from spy novels: dead drops, spy dust, disguises, portals (little known cop trick). Least known cop trick is their willingness to tail/observe 24/7 for months to catch a suspect in the act for burglary/drugs. Read the book Spy Dust about real tricks in Moscow.

Portals?
Thanks for the book rec.

In Moscow traffic was forced to go thru limited entry/exit points which could be watched. Cops do the same thing by knowing, for instance, areas of high-end homes and observing/taping limited entry/exit points looking for suspiceous people, known burglars, etc. Done instead of trying to watch specific homes. That helps "gated communities" even if there's no full-time gate guard.

Idk here's a random twist I thought of: MC, probably an average cop or P.I., needs dirt on some Target cuz plot, starts investigating into him seeing a prostitute regularly. Gets told to drop it for whatever reason. Obsessively keeps digging. Turns out Target is FBI and the prostitute is his partner, both in deep cover, working to get at a pimp who's been running a brutal human trafficking ring. Probably been done similarly before but alot of places you could take that plot point.
Would make a nice twist in a story, or a main plot if you expand and mold it a little.

Planting false evidence: cigarette butts when the criminal is a non smoker, or leaving around some blonde hairs when criminal is brunette. Extra points if the false evidence frames someone else.

The one where the butler does it. No one will see it coming.
