Genesis hasn’t announced that they’re actually building this concept vehicle and they can barely even sell their current electric cars today. I believe they’ve sold less than a thousand GV60 through the year so far. Also this concept car is several months old, so why is MT posting about it now?

The problem with Genesis is that they’re approaching Mercedes Benz prices but have Hyundai service experience. They used to feel like the value luxury but the bottom has pushed up towards them in value and they haven’t done enough to justify being at the high end. Although if I’m completely honest it’s the milquetoast driving dynamics that keep preventing me from buying one.

They are slowly opening up sole Genesis dealerships.

Unfortunately the GV60 didn’t differentiate itself enough from the ionic and the EV6. Not only did those ones look better, they are nearly as luxurious, cheaper, and got the performance version sooner. And even as a G80 owner, I have no idea why anyone would want the compromised EV version over a ground up EV. Same with the GV70. It’s interesting. Hyundai put a ridiculous amount of investment in starting up the Genesis brand, and I’m a fan of quite a few of their products. But it’ll be hard to justify asa brand if it’s just a better trim of a Hyundai EV

Its not that, Genesis' for the most part are incredibly nice. The GV60 was a good step up from the Ioniq 5. The problem is that no one wants to go into a Hyundai dealer to drop luxury car money. Imagine someone who is doing paperwork for their brand new 100k G90, and the guy at the desk next to them is arguing with their salesman over a $200 hubcap to alloy rim upgrade. No one wants that. You also have to service your car at a Hyundai dealer, which are known to be less than stellar. I do agree, maybe the GV60 isn't the BEST EV, but for 60Kish CAD, its a solid car, especially how given the EX-30 and friends all run around in the same space. I'd argue the EX-30 has a substantially worse interior than the GV60, yet I still see a fair amount of them rolling around in Metro Vancouver Canada. I've seen one lime green GV60 so far.

"but for 60Kish CAD" GV60 starts at the mid 70's CAD.

But no one pays MSRP on any Genesis in reality.

Yeah my conversion was off in my head. Google pulled the US site at 52k. Regardless, at 73k, you can probably knock a good 5-6 K off though.

> the guy at the desk next to them is arguing with their salesman over a $200 hubcap to alloy rim upgrade. No one wants that. How does what the guy next to you is doing affect what car you’re willing to buy? It’s not like you’re buying a house and this guy will be your neighbor or anything. It should have no impact!

>You also have to service your car at a Hyundai dealer, which are known to be less than stellar. As someone who doesn't live anywhere near a city, this was seen as an advantage to me. If it's any consolation they have started revoking this (at least over here on the East Coast), oil change and tires only. Anything else it has to go to a Genesis dealer. It kind of screwed me over a little as I bought a used G80 sport a couple years ago, at that time the local Hyundai was allowed to do all Genesis work, warranty and recalls included. Now I have three open recalls that I have not been able to get done because the nearest dealer is 4 hours away. (Even if I bought new, they would not come this far to get it I already confirmed that) I'm on the other side of the fence and think they should have waited to make that call, because their dealer network is not up to snuff yet. We only have one in the whole province, and as far as I know it's not even done being constructed yet (being converted from a regular Hyundai dealer I think). I'm probably not the majority though, I hardly see any of these in small towns and I only saw two other '17+ models in 2 years.

I am a GV60 performance owner. I wanted something faster than the Kia EV6 and Hyundai ioniq 5 without going full GT or N. And I wanted a nicer interior. I bought a CPO 2023 Genesis GV60 performance. It's been great. It's still quicker than 90% of cars on the road and a nice interior.

Its not that, its that no one wants to drop 70k at a Hyundai dealer talking to their salesman while sitting next to a guy whose arguing over the $200 extra charge for hubcaps on a base model Elantra. New Genesis' are extremely nice. I would not buy one because 1. I don't like Hyundai dealers, and 2. I don't want warranty work done at Hyundai dealers.

I can’t imagine any car harder to go after than the G Wagon. It’s basically just a status symbol, signaling you have “fuck you money.” Inherently any copy of that is going to be seen as tasteless. BMW supposedly wants to make one and even that could be dicey, why not just get the G? And if not the G, there’s tons of great options that are proxies for the same capabilities but much cheaper, Jeep, Bronco, Land Cruiser, GX, LX.
View on Reddit #66406196

Energy4Days@reddit

The G has become too common. It's been replaced by the Urus and Cullinan
View on Reddit #66687995

SinisterHippos@reddit

BMW did make their own G Wagen and it failed miserably, the XM. The US market for Genesis is pretty minor, about 1/4 of their sales. It mostly exists to be a luxury brand for South Korea, which mostly buys only South Korean cars. Any import is fairly rare there. So this thing can still make sense even if only really sells in Korea, because that's really the entire Genesis brand for the most part.
View on Reddit #66448927

>BMW did make their own G Wagen and it failed miserably, the XM. I'd argue that the XM was designed to be an Urus competitor and completely missed the point of why people buy Urus's (the badge).

I mean the XM in general really didn’t make too much sense. What made it more special than an X5M for example?

I really don't get it. Are people really choosing their car based on the 30 minutes it takes to do the paperwork and then the 30 minutes a year it takes to deal with them to service the car?
View on Reddit #66431728

eZreazy@reddit

This feels like a US problem because of how strong your dealers are. Ownership/dealer experience made us heavily consider Genesis because the dedicated genesis dealerships were a step above any normal luxury dealerships I’ve shopped at. Service is such a hassle free experience in Canada too since for any work they pick up your car at your home and drop off a loaner of your choice.

The problem is that the parent company is clearly visible. These are slightly over-designed with switchgear that seems like it’s 9/10 scale. There is stuff to like but they need to borrow more from Kia and less from Hyundai. If I’m going to shell out that kind of money I’ll get a Lexus.

They could just try to built a civilian K-151 or older K311 if they want to respond something like Hummer, G-Wagon, and LR Defender. These off-roaders are born from military models, it's basically one of reasons why buyer buying these vehicles.

Turn the seats and drive train around 180 degrees, add a bed where the engine compartment currently is, retain 95 percent of the design, and the EV Version will be a Cybertruck beater.
