Where I'm at (Deep South, east coast) nobody gives a damn. Some TikTok guy got shot and everyone is acting all upset about it, it's whatever.

Oh except for Nancy Mace's idiot ass screeching, but she also literally loses her shit if someone asks her a question in the drug store, and she's feeling humiliated after announcing she was running for Governor and no one came to her dumbass fundraiser for it.

At this point despite of a lot of online concern I am pretty convinced that there's no circumstance that is going to turn folks in SC against their neighbors based on some kind of nebulous political ideology going on in the rest of the country, it's just not how things work around here. Frankly the somewhat serious cultural idea that you don't discuss politics or religion or money or sex outside of your very close family and friends circle because that's rude and leads to nothing but trouble is a really GOOD thing for us. The more aggressive and angry everyone else's political divides have become, the more that I notice SC withdrawing from displays of loyalty to one group or another in general because it's making us uncomfortable, peace with your immediate neighbors is prioritized WAY over something that someone said on TV or the Internet.

And if the whole damn country were to break out into crazy troubles we'd be handling that like we handle Hurricanes, something that's different here than a lot of places is that pretty much anyone over the age of seven at this point has clear mental experience with what happens when EVERY NORMAL MODERN FUNCTION breaks down for a significant amount of time and we're all on our own....which is that we immediately get out there and start helping our neighbors and figuring it out.

I ain't saying we're perfect we have PLENTY of problems but a lot of us being really poor and being used to making do with less may be an advantage, our ACTUAL diversity of races and religions (not imaginary but people who we see every day and THEY ARE OUR COMMUNITY) may be an advantage, our understanding that guns are tools for killing and the presumption that everyone has one or more and that's normal, and that running around making noises like you want to WHAT start roaming around attacking your neighbors BOY HAVE YOU LOST YOUR GOT DAMN MIND??!! ...is NOT well received.

Oh we did that immediately after the election results came in. We've all got a plan A, B and C at this point. I feel really fortunate to have a pick of several really well situated situations, and that my family and friends are also similarly positioned....not as many picks as I have but everyone has something very solid to bounce to. And we're half of us in the woods already.

And I have been saying this repeatedly but I am gonna say it again, although considering that this is PrepperIntel I doubt this is actually advice for anyone here, but GET YOURSELF A GOOD PORTABLE WATER FILTER and not a bullshit lifestraw, I mean something that will actually filter a decent amount of water for a while, that you can throw in a bag that you can carry.

My region gets destroyed by hurricanes pretty regularly and it gives you some perspective on things, we still haven't found everyone after Helene last year.

You can figure out a lot of things with a little bit of time but you have NO time to figure out water, you are going to need clean water within 24 hours or less and it's HEAVY, so if you need to move you can't carry enough for it to be meaningful.

Most victims of these types of shooters are attacked in scenarios where they don't expect a threat, like the situation where Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark in Minnesota opened their door to someone dressed as a police officer, and were murdered along with their Golden Retriever, Gilbert.

At an event with a large crowd that was scheduled well in advance, with Kirk literally making a living from being a controversial figure, I'm not blaming the victim but damn, realistically he should have made better choices about his security.

We have a lot of guns and a lot of people, and famous people are magnets for crazy and that's well known. I feel like reading too much in to this one incident especially when he chose not to secure himself better is losing the plot.

I am sorry that he was murdered, but I hope you don't feel like it's a particularly special incident imbued with a great deal of significance, because it isn't.

He did get out of his parent's basement, and it's kind of super sad in a way because he probably actually attacked Kirk because he admired him, he's the right age for schizoaffective disorders to start manifesting as well, there's likely some of that involved although they'll probably put him in front of an actual firing squad in short order.

I do get where they thought it was "antifa ideology" because of the "catch this, fascist!" with the arrows but that's a reference to a game called Helldivers 2 where the character says that and you make those moves with your controller (the arrows) to rain down various weapons.

Once again appreciate the communication and probably agree with 99% of what you said. Of course that 1% where I disagree is that you said he wasn’t a radical leftist. His friend was interviewed today and stated that the shooter was pretty far left on everything, and stood out being the only one of his family with those views. Can try and link the article if you want. As well as phrases from an Italian anti-fascist folk song on the rifle cases. Had talked with his family before Charlie’s event saying Charlie was full of hate and spreading hate. That doesn’t represent admiration to me. And of course, the fact he shot a right-wing activist, which by itself is a pretty straightforward indicator to me.

Almost doesn’t matter because hate and evil is not restricted to one group of people. The public reaction to it and support to it is what bothers me. One crazy person willing to kill is nothing new, but thousands of people cheering in support is another. And will lead to nothing positive in the future, no matter what side you’re on. In fact quite the opposite. I obviously have opinions on it, but try to also view at as if I’m reading from a history book. From that perspective, it looks very bad. Very bad for our future, and not a sign of a healthy, cohesive and united society. Very rarely do good things come after something like that.

We were poor, EVERYONE was poor, we needed the meat and we raised and butchered animals and hunted for everything that jumped or flew or swam of a reasonable eating size, and if you've never choked down a marsh hen you have no idea how far the word "edible" stretches when you're actually hungry. No amount of vinegar and garlic soak gets that mud taste out.

I'm in the DEEP SOUTH we basically ALL have guns. "Please join reality" you have got to be kidding me. All you folks peering out your doors terrified of your neighbors need to grow a fuckin' backbone.

You know what works REALLY GREAT to cut down on worrying about bad guys and other mental illness? Having a social group around you of people and situations that you know, who care about you and value you, being goddamn USEFUL in the world, it's AMAZING what the world looks like when you're not scared of your own shadow.

I'm more than capable of defending myself and the people and animals that I love and I've done it. You would look at me and think I'm some little grandmother but you have no idea. And honestly, guns are available but by the time it comes to that it's already gone far beyond where it should have.

Every ineffectual half measure to reduce the damage that gun owners can commit will continue to fail because we need to acknowledge that every single gun owner is recklessly irresponsible, as demonstrated by their choice to acquire a firearm.

We'll start by arresting the morons who will go out and shake their compensation sticks at people when we abolish the 2nd ammendment. Then we will arrest everyone who uses a fire arm in any situation regardless of context.

You dont have to get every single gun to make the nation far safer. You just need to make examples out if the gun owningest gun owners. Anything that will make them think twice about using their fire arms for any reason will encourage them to stop killing their spouses and family members and will make being seen with a firearm a taboo, making mass attendance events far safer.

For what its worth, I don't believe you. Gun owners own their guns specifically so they can enforce their will on others, typically their spouses and family members. It is one of the reasons why gun owners are the people least able to own a gun responsibly.

For what its worth, I have several friends who have been murdered by their gun owning partners our house-mates. Each of those soon-to-be murderers insisted that the "criminals with guns" were the problem and that they could never be a danger to their partners or children because they bought their guns to protect those people. They waxed poetic about how they walked out of the gun shops filled with pride that they would be the protectors of the loved ones they would soon kill.

I really hope your wife never makes you upset. And if she does, I hope she has a safe place to get away from you.

Bit of sentiment analysis for yall. I'm not gonna lie man, I'm fucking angry as fuck. Just this week, in public, I've seen people multiple times harassing and yelling at non white people. Just today some old bitch was yelling at the brown people working at a fast food restaurant I ate at telling them to "get a job or go back to where you came from" WHILE THEY WERE WORKING AT THE GODDAMN RESTAURANT. I'm a 6 foot 2 white dude who was in the military, and I've had people at work come up to me assuming I'd be on their side try and start conversations about the "lgbtq problem" and about how the military needs to deploy everywhere and either take guns away from every queer person or straight up just mass arrest people. I've also had other people who know I skew more liberal come up to me and basically volunteer whatever skills they have to help fight if we have to. People are afraid of our own military. Hispanic strangers act differently around me now in public, averting their eyes and generally just laying low, I assume out of concern I could cause them issues if I wanted to. It's fucking tragic man, I'm watching the society I live in tear itself apart.

I, as someone who was in the military, am suspicious of our own troops. I don't want them anywhere near me. I do not trust them. I have zero faith whatsoever that in the coming weeks or months or years, if they are ordered to violate my or others civil rights, that they will refuse those illegal orders. I think most of them would do it in a heartbeat either out of ignorance of the law, outright support for the illegal orders, or out of just looking out for themselves and just trying to make it to the end of their contract. This shit is bleak, and I truly do not see a path anymore back to what we would have called normal just one year ago. I think things will get worse. I don't think these people have a line. I truly think that, if the republican party wishes to push things as far as extermination camps, that their sycophant followers will support that course of action enthusiastically. I think it is a very real possibility that we will have to fight these people for our lives. I can feel that within me, I have changed. I feel distrust and genuine hatred for anyone that voted for this. I will never be able to forgive these people for how far things have already gone, let alone how far I believe they will go in the future. If I saw a horrible car accident on the side of the road, and that car had conservative bumper stickers, I would not lift a finger to help them.

I'm not American nor am I a big pepper (very basic escape plan prepped, escaped cities in Ukraine, lived in subways for months during the heaviest days of the war) but is this pizza thing real or a meme?
