Hi, is anyone going to MK pride this Saturday? X
FinchMandala@reddit
Nope, because they have sponsors that are complicit in the funding of Israel's genocide on Palestinians. As a queer person I won't partake in it.
Classic_Peasant@reddit
How does Palestine and Hamas feel about your community?
chickbrownie@reddit
just because your activism is dependent on how a situation affects -you- doesn’t mean that that’s how it works for the rest of us
PepsiMars15@reddit
Exactly I agree with you with some simple research would show they couldn't care less about the lgb community
Arthran@reddit
Just because Hamas or current Palastinian laws don't support LGBT people, doesnt mean that we shouldnt fight for them or their right to live. They are human beings after all, and the point of Pride is to further the fight for equal rights and celebrate queer history, a history full of queer people being the victims, so shouldnt we understand and support other victims?
Yes we small folk can't fix the problems or massively move the needle, that needs the people in power to listen up. But I feel what we shouldnt do is say "Well the people suffering genocide wouldnt like me, so I shouldnt care about them" because all that does is let the oppressors win.
FinchMandala@reddit
Why do you think we don't know that? Are you dense?
PepsiMars15@reddit
Nope not at all just find your comment funny is all and resorting to name calling shows me all I need to know of you xo
FinchMandala@reddit
Good. :)
Practical_Bobcat_687@reddit
That they're being killed by the IOF
FinchMandala@reddit
My support for innocent people isn't conditional.
Plus pride is just an excuse for straight people to have a piss up anyway.
Davychu@reddit
That's a weird question, do we only oppose genocide if the group of people meet a certain standard?
This a rhetorical question, by the way.
-TheBigC-@reddit
Huff. Before I correct you, can you define Genocide? Just incase it's your English teachers fault.
FinchMandala@reddit
Lmao trust your ilk to not know what a genocide is when you're too busy scrawling red crosses on roundabouts.
You're not interested in anything I have to say, so why would I spend my time trying to teach you where common sense failed?
-TheBigC-@reddit
No I'm not a right wing retard either but if you want to go by common sense alone... Your lot justify October 7th as 'its been going on a lot longer than that' so let's go back to 1947 when the state of Isreal was declared if you recall Arabs invaded Isreal and lost the first of many of their attempts to wipe out Israel (side note Arabs are terrible at war right!?) The population of what you call Palestine was 1.2 million Arabs, 600,000 Jews. Today the population is 5 million Arabs and zero Jews. So Israel suck at genocide as much as Arabs suck at winning wars don't they. Considering Israel itself is home to 2 million Arabs today so which of these two sounds more like the apartheid state?
FinchMandala@reddit
Aww how long did it take for you to copy and paste that from Google, buddy?
-TheBigC-@reddit
Research is a foreign concept to you leftys isn't it, you going to the march tomorrow to hold a sign up and offer absolutely nothing to debate?
FinchMandala@reddit
Why would I want to debate with someone who uses buzzwords like "lefties" and is scared of a group of people totalling less than one third of Wembley Stadium in numbers?
Go better yourself.
-TheBigC-@reddit
Haha the cheek of it, 1. You give off left wing vibes, 2. You don't know what a genocide is, 3. You're assuming my political persuasion which coming from your lot you should not be so judgemental and know better. 4. Now I am very confused about who you are referring to as my fear. Purple haired poison dart frogs? Nose peirced heavily make up'd Uni graduates who didn't get the career they wanted? Former small business owners who's lives were shattered by covid? Middle aged people who were unable to conceive children? Or the left as a whole? Or am I way off and you're actually talking about illegal unknown sexually starved men living at my expense in 4 star hotels?
ricopicouk@reddit
Which sponsor is complicit in funding the IDF? Please reply with sources if possible
FinchMandala@reddit
Volkswagen, for one. You can start by going to whoprofits.org if you aren't being facetious.
Pride should never be paid for with corporate sponsorship. It's a shame none of the downvoters give a shit.
Arthran@reddit
It's a difficult balance, because there is a huge difference between corporate sponsors at the national/global level and a business with a local office wanting to be involved in local events. Were it Barclays or similar I would 100% agree, with it being a company with a large office in MK who may have LGBT staff who want to be involved in the local Pride, I can understand that sponsorship more. Those local staff don't have the ability to stop their employer being involved in Isreal, but they might have the ability to steer local office funding into local events.
Unfortunately like most things its not quite as black and white as we would like, and I think where there are local businesses/offices involved I tend to lean more on the hopeful idea that their involvement is more a sign of genuine people wanting to do good, rather than corporate pridewashing.
ricopicouk@reddit
Not being facetious at all. I do care about this, and have attempted to direct my consumerism away from the produce of Isreal.
That being said, I work in business within a large corporate body and I know that to exit customers based on political stances can be troublesome.
FinchMandala@reddit
Last year I did send a private message to the organiser asking about their inclusion of VW (and it was a lot more polite and gentle than my posts here will have one believe) and I was instantaneously blocked. The original organisers would have been far more careful with whom they'd take sponsorship from.
I follow an org on Instagram called The Lad Fund who campaign to get prides around the country to drop their problematic sponsorships, among other things. They also have a list of prides that don't have corporate or political parties sniffing around them. Much more ethical and in my opinion far more beneficial for the community as a whole.
TH14sBoombox@reddit
