What did you do for your 40th?

Looking for inspiration - considering getting a fancy car is definitely out of the question. Maybe a small toy version.

Talked to my mum and dad over a fence for about 10 mins. I was 40 at the height of the original covid lockdown.

Me too! Still bitter about it. Had booked to go to Miami but of course it never happened

Same. Did nothing. Making up for it with every birthday from 42nd onwards that Covid stole my birthday!

Climbed Scafell Pike, late lunch, then a eve/night canoe out on Derwent water in Keswick. Wifey did me proud.

4 night break in Berlin. Couldn't possibly recommend it more highly. Amazing city, almost two cities in one with it being split in the cold war.

I spent both my 18th and 30th in hospital recovering from major surgery, so when my 40th loomed I said all I wanted was not to be in hospital. I got my wish, had a take away, stayed in.

Went skiing for the first time. It was something I had always wanted to try so we did. We loved it and have been every year since!

Just before Covid so I got a family trip of a lifetime to French Polynesia and then a mates trip to Vegas.

I turned 40 in 2021 just before the restrictions eased a bit to allow indoor socialising. I went for a meal at a rooftop restaurant with my kids - it was lovely and I’m not really one for parties anyway!

Had a big party in a house we had just bought after being rented to students for fifteen years with little maintenance. It was perfect as everything needed fixing and decorating anyway so we graffitied all the walls with spray can pictures of cakes and candles and other things and had a ball with friends old and new.

I still got a couple years yet, but my plan is for a weekend at the lake district with my daughter. Log cabin, marshmallows over a fire, mtn bike paths, adventures in the woods, taking a boat out, enjoying rural pubs and food. Sounds like bliss to me, and I would rather share it with no one else but my little girl.

I was 40 in April this year. My brother sent me some things from my amazon wishlist. Our dad unfortunately was in hospital with delusions and had no idea it had been our birthdays (my brothers is a week before mine). My boss brought in cake for the team in honour of my birthday.

Lockdown & no takeaways open in our area as it was Tuesday. Got pissed with my other half. Never got round to doing anything else.

My 40th was last week. I took my wife and kids to a science museum about an hour away that they absolutely love and which we all had a great time at once before. We stayed over nearby, had a great dinner, and a bit of shopping the next day. It was great.

I love this! When you have kids, you have to take them into account, and birthdays are different. I love how you wanted to spend your birthday with your nearest and dearest and had a great time. It's what familiy is all about.

Sat on the street in Miami in my lorry and ordered myself Jamaican food on UberEats. Over a certain age, birthdays are not really something to be celebrated in my mind at least. Just another reminder that, to quote Bob Ferris, *"in the chocolate box of life, the top layer has already gone"*

Hired a cinema. Invited everyone I knew and subjected them to a film that was released the same time I was - Goldfinger.

PERFECT suggestion! Gonna use that for my 60th as a party theme - Thunderball for me though.

My 40th I did fuck all, it was a bit of a non-event. I even said to the then-husband 'don't you DARE do a surprise party!' Our son was a toddler, I was exhausted. My 50th on the other hand.... Never were so many zombies zombying on one place. I'm goth, so a HUGE Walking Dead party was my choice. I's always recommend a house/garden party. Limitless room, total control. then other stuff as treats.

I turned 40 during Covid so the only gathering allowed was outdoors and in limited numbers. Wife had a lot of stuff booked that was cancelled, so settled in a birthday party (despite me not being keen on them) with the neighbours. She arranged stuff in the drive and people got together and then started raining... LOL So we opened the garage and were pulling the table with the cake in and out as the rain came and went. Turned out to be a really funny day because of the rain, but still crap. I've been considering getting a fast car experience, that may be interesting. ;)

I worked out that if I liquidated all my savings and investments I could pay off my mortgage. Which was a very nice 40th birthday present to myself. Though I was distinctly lucky that when I bought, house prices were nowhere near as ridiculous as they are now.

Adding myself to the other "bugger all because it was the middle of lockdown" posts. Not what I had been imagining I would end up doing.

Sat at home by myself in the second winter lockdown then went for a socially distanced walk with a friend and had a zoom chat with the family. I hope yours is more fun than that! I owe myself a party.

I stayed overnight in hospital to keep my son company after he had planned surgery. Rock and roll I know but duty first.

Booked to spend the night on one of the napoleonic sea forts in the Solent (my fort -ieth) but they cancelled for refurbishment so I went and sat on the big fibreglass dinosaur on the Isle of Wight instead.

I won't be 40 til October , however for his 40th my father had a party at a local golf club. We invited all his friends and family , got steaming and ended up dancing round naked on the stage waving his birthday balloons in the air. Sometimes the best birthday parties are the ones you don't remember ...
