Anyone know if there’s going to be a prayer vigil for Charlie in Dallas or surrounding?

Dallas native here. Social media has been a little toxic, most of my “friends” have been cheering or mocking this incident.
Would like to be around people somewhat empathetic.
Agitated_Seat9373@reddit
Let's do one for the children in Gaza too.
Coogs-Ags@reddit
Let’s do one for the all the Israelis murdered on Oct 7th.
noncongruent@reddit
No worries, in just the first year after that horrific 10/7 attack that killed 1,200 people the IDF has responded by killing over 3,000 Palestinian children in Gaza aged five down to newborns. Yes, the IDF's revenge in just that first year was to kill three Palestinians for every Israeli killed the year before. The total revenge death count is to date is over 50 to one, meaning that for every Israeli that died that day over fifty Palestinians have been killed in retaliation. The vast majority of those killed have been women and children. Sadly, it appears no amount of mother and child blood will be enough to slake Israel's thirst for revenge. The intent now seems to be utter extirpation of Palestinians, including their culture, their history, everything.

Typically, vigils are held for people who have died. The only people that died in that shooting is the shooter who killed himself immediately after.

This is deflection. And why not attend that vigil? That's not what this convo is about.
Adddicus@reddit
Did you go to the prayer vigil for Melissa Hortman? She was killed (along with her husband) by a politically motivated killer dressed up as a cop.
You went to that prayer vigil, right?
Right?
Sorry_Following_8812@reddit
Why do you think that Opie has to go to Melissa Hortman vigil??? Why does that matter? Oh because it matters to you! I hope Dallas has a thousand vigils for Charlie Kirk, I hope you're late for work because of it and them... Furthermore I hope it drives you f-ing insane that people want to go to a CHARLIE KIRK vigil.
DasAutoGro@reddit (OP)
I didn’t know who she was or about the incident. I like Charlie because he brought me closer to my faith and family. I didn’t fully agree with his politics but I’m at least grateful for the impact he had on me even if it wasn’t fully representative of who he was.
worfres_arec_bawrin@reddit
I’ve read that in Every. Single. Post.
Just say it with your chest for fucks sake. Why are people such feckless pansies.
DasAutoGro@reddit (OP)
I’ll be honest, Kirk was veeeery moderate. Nobody was afraid to openly support him. Which is sad. The closest thing the conservative youth has to Charlie now is Nick Fuentes. A lot of people will be turning to him now. Which isn’t the best alternative you’d think it is.
Alert_Ad_694@reddit
Kirk was not moderate. Like at all.
DasAutoGro@reddit (OP)
Who’s moderate to you?
Alert_Ad_694@reddit
People like Mitt Romney, Andy Bashir, Charlie Baker are moderates, because their politics, while influenced by their ideological leanings, is determined by adhering to American values and civility and a willingness to work across the aisle to get things done. Moderates like them have also been pushed out of both parties leaving fewer and fewer moderates in office, which is very bad for the future of the country IMO
If you're looking for political influencers who are moderates, there are very few because social media rewards polarization. Phillip DeFranco is left of center, and the Dispatch podcast has hosts across the political spectrum.....but there's not much political moderation in the social media sphere. Actually talk with people in person from a variety of backgrounds and you'll find moderates there, but most just keep tight lipped nowadays because one or two views is enough for them to basically be an extremist to the existing political extremists (i.e. a moderate who is pro-choice or pro-gay marriage is not a true 'conservative', or a moderate who is for enforcing the border or for not being anti police brutality is not a true liberal or leftist). As a personal example my own sister said I'm not a true Texan if I didn't vote for Trump
We're just broken as a society because this problem is only getting worse, and none of our leaders seem to care to bring us together again
worfres_arec_bawrin@reddit
Why would I think Fuentes is a good alternative lol. There is no moderate conservative voice in the propaganda and polarization = profit sphere. Moderate doesn’t generate clicks, empathy doesn’t generate revenue, and nuance doesn’t create viral click bait or YouTube thumbnails. Kirk was not the moderate you think he is if the very next person they’re going to is Nick fucking Fuentes.
DasAutoGro@reddit (OP)
Charlie was moderate. Nick isn’t. Nick is a threat to the right. Nick is young and charismatic, young people resonate with him. Who else on the right has these characteristics?
noncongruent@reddit
The assassination of the Speaker of the House of the Minnesota Congress and her husband, along with the attempted assassinations of another members of that state's legislative body, was national news, reported on heavily by every significant media channel in this country. The only media channels that didn't report on it in any significance, even briefly, were those channels devoted to feeding far right conservative and Republican narratives and rage.
By the way, Speaker of the House in the Minnesota Congress is 4th in line in the chain of succession in that state's government, behind the President of the Senate, Lieutenant Governor, and Governor.
If you had no idea that the fourth most important person in a state's legislative body was assassinated with clear political motives in this country then that's a strong indicator that your selection of news sources is extremely defective and biased, and that in turn is warping your own understanding of events in this country dramatically. If you care at all about being a competent citizen of this country then you must fix that defect in your understanding and knowledge of events, and the only way to do that is to broaden your chosen sources of news away from just the few that feed you your preferred narratives like slop to a hog. Listening to only those channels that reinforce your own preferred thoughts and beliefs strips you of any agency you have.
Adddicus@reddit
So, she was murdered someone who was a lot like you.
DasAutoGro@reddit (OP)
Thanks for the awareness. I’ll look into it. Prayers go out to her family.
arlenroy@reddit
You understand Mr Kirk said empathy was a "made up new term", apparently being empathetic is woke for him. So, the question is, why are you being empathetic towards a man who obviously did not care for empathy? I honestly would like to know your thought process for this? I am not attacking you, I genuinely do not understand.
UnknownQTY@reddit

“I think it’s worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights.”
I’m not about blaming victims. But if you make unserious and unscientific excuses for gun violence, so loudly and publicly, in a larger effort to making a sad, angry living generating outrage on the Internet, you shouldn’t be surprised when that same culture of violence and ignorance you willfully stoked for so very long comes for you in the end. Why would I hold vigil for some idiot who wanted nothing more than to be a martyr for other idiots? No thanks.

full quote: anyone who disagrees with this is simply illogical “Having an armed citizenry comes with a price, and that is part of liberty. Driving comes with a price—50,000, 50,000, 50,000 people die on the road every year. That’s a price. You get rid of driving, you’d have 50,000 less auto fatalities. But we have decided that the benefit of driving—speed, accessibility, mobility, having products, services is worth the cost of 50,000 people dying on the road. You will never live in a society when you have an armed citizenry and you won’t have a single gun death. That is nonsense. It’s drivel. But … I think it’s worth it. I think it’s worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights. That is a prudent deal. It is rational. Nobody talks like this. They live in a complete alternate universe.” - source: https://www.news.com.au/world/north-america/worth-it-charlie-kirks-gun-laws-claim/news-story/246640da7e32747905ed4111878c1f57

I didnt agree with everything he said. Did on some. But it doesnt really matter. Nothing he ever said justified his murder. I agree. The fact that people are cheering it on is disgusting.
College campuses are the perfect places for open debate. Your ideas should be challenged so you can either defend them or realize certain ideas are bad and you can throw them away.
But you can always walk away from someone talking if you dont like what they're saying. You dont have to leave kids fatherless.
Hope you find what you're looking for.
Phynub@reddit
Did on some? like what?
- Gun deaths being an acceptable cost?
- His racist remarks against POC and minorities?
- His criticism of civil rights and MLK?
- Hate towards LGBTQ+ community?
- COVID19 Misinformation?
- Great replacement rhetoric that he talked so highly about?
- Stance on anti-immigration?
- Mass deportation?
- Hate towards Islam?
Please enlighten me on things that he said that were good, would love to see this point of view because his views on those things are... not right.

... including the one that happened same day as Charlie - you know, one of those acceptable prices we pay for guns or whatever - that nobody's really talking about.
To be fair though, even if Charlie Kirk hadn't died, it wouldn't get much, given how common they've become and all the nothing that keeps getting done in response.

Some things are just the consequences of your actions. When you spread hate and ugliness. Hate and Ugly comes back to you, God do not like ugly.
Pale-Ad-1393@reddit
Violence comes in many different forms. Im angry that there are children who have to face this same death or worse.
I’m not understanding why people think that we should suddenly have empathy for a man that never gave it. how did a man on the internet make you closer to your faith and family? what about this guy made you do that? and why couldn’t you have done it yourself? what i have heard him say in the many years he has been idolized have been far from god-like or compassionate.
he has nothing to do with our state nor region. he isn’t a politician. he is a celebrity. im not necessarily celebrating but i don’t feel bad. the guns he loves got pointed the other way. no one cares until there is a charismatic white man at the barrel of the gun. guess everyone is too used to them being the ones pulling the trigger.
pray about it and move on.
DreadLordNate@reddit
Personally, I don't see why we as a city would. He's not anything to this in particular. Granted, the mayor is a desperate suck up, so it could happen.
Nothing stopping you from your own actions though I do think it's sad that you see friends as questionable given their feelings on this differ. What - does everyone have to agree on everything?
DasAutoGro@reddit (OP)
It’s questionable because they’re cheering for a death of a person solely because his opinion differed from theirs. I got unfollowed by some because I shared a picture of him with his family.
DreadLordNate@reddit
Is that actually why though, or your assumption? Feelings here are pretty high. That and I tend to look askance at what folks are portraying as "cheering" as this seems to be "anything short of suggesting we bronze him and put him in the town square"
As for the picture...
... I will just gently point out that other people - victims of gun violence - had families too. They were acceptable losses to Kirk. Paul Pelosi would be family to Nancy due to being her spouse. Yet Charlie called for his attacker to be released.
Again - you can have all the feelings you want. Free country. Just be wary of walking face first into some hypocritical whatnot.
Me? I feel bad for his kids.
CommodoreVF2@reddit
Empathetic for a man who flippantly stated a constitutional right is worth the lives lost to gun violence? Even little kids? It's because of this attitude that I have the daily angst of the possibility that my kids won't make it home from school. Fuck him and his divisive nature. Sorry for his family, but he reaped what he sowed.
earthquakefarts@reddit
OP- I’m sorry you’re experiencing such vitriol in the comments. People that I knew since my teens are now cheering for Charlie Kirk’s death. It’s really, really dark and demonic and it makes me really concerned for the future of this country. If you need someone to talk to, give me a shout.
