Am I missing something of this sub? What does this have to do with anything here?
AntiSonOfBitchamajig@reddit (OP)
Awareness of events, and if one person realizes just how dangerous a tanker fire is on here and gets away from seeing this post... I'm all for it.
Roving_Ibex@reddit
Hmm still seems a little obvious but I get you
HomoExtinctisus@reddit
Too bad it's not obvious to the consistent stream of people who get harmed by similar incidents because they aren't afraid enough.
AntiSonOfBitchamajig@reddit (OP)
Still, another big casualty event of note to add to the list of WTFs today.
lpsweets@reddit
Ok cool so fucking nothing to do with the sub nice
AntiSonOfBitchamajig@reddit (OP)
You know I created this sub right?
lpsweets@reddit
Why would I know that or care lmao
AntiSonOfBitchamajig@reddit (OP)
You said it has nothing to do with the sub.... I started the dang sub revolving around such things.
salynch@reddit
This sub is basically for people with untreated anxiety disorders.
notlikethat1@reddit
But my personality is high anxiety! /s (kinda...)
InvestigatorEntire45@reddit
Hey! Some of us here ARE being treated for those anxiety disorders! Just not enough, apparently.
HillTower160@reddit
Put down the goddamned phone and try to help some people. JFC
Greenzoid2@reddit
What should a responding witness do in a situation like this, I really don't know.
AntiSonOfBitchamajig@reddit (OP)
If everything is safe and they're not physically hot, I've heard you're to apply cling film (plastic kitchen film) loosely to the area, this helps greatly with infection iirc.
But these people, with 95% severe burns... they'd be lucky to live the next 72 hours.
SeattleHighlander@reddit
Absolutely do not do this.
AntiSonOfBitchamajig@reddit (OP)
seriously just learning discussing this
Isn't there an argument against cotton fibers and permeability of the sheeting getting dried on?
Smooth plastic peels off smooth instead of gelling in?
SeattleHighlander@reddit
No. Smooth plastic isn't going to breathe, and those limbs are going to swell. Fluid is leaking into the interstitial spaces. Once they are no longer hot, you don't seal anything.
In some emergency cases, cuts will be made to avoid compartment syndrome as swelling increases. That's how bad the swelling and fluid loss is.
Clean dry sheets or ems blankets. You're trying to retain heat. Infection is a concern secondary to exposure. We're also going to be pressing fluid according to a body weight and time formula.
They're also almost certainly being snowed and intubated.
In short, other than cooling them off and managing ABCs, your best intervention as a bystander is rapidly escalating their care.
Burns are a disaster.
AntiSonOfBitchamajig@reddit (OP)
again learning here So, basically there's nothing one can do... not even 800mg of ibuprofen or drinking water?
What could a average prepared person do to help their survival that they would have on hand? Clean EMS sheets isn't a typical thing... like... I have an emergency blanket in the cars but even those will be dirty by any medical standard.
Yeah, burns are a mess, especially full body like that.
SeattleHighlander@reddit
Don't give anything.
Talk to them, reassure them. Stop worrying about "dirty by medical standards" and start thinking critical life support.
ABCDE.
In reality with multiple patients you might have to triage and save who you can save.
Calinate@reddit
That's what I was saying. Why is he filming and walking past all of these people crying for help?
ReasonablePossum_@reddit
Tha hell would you do? Severe wounds are quite hard to treat even in fully equiped hospitals. People with full body serious burns can enter shock, have cardiac or respiratory episodes.
Treined people on emergency and first aid will habe an extremely hard time looking for whoom to help, amd even then only the ones not looking very bad and that will live enough to get to the hospital, if you know where it is.
Best case scenario for civilians here is if someone with knowledge of the area and emergency responses can organize the available cars to move victims to a healthcare center asap, as in a situation as this ambulances will take long and will definitely not enough on such a mass casualities disaster.
A random that doesnt know or only has basic first aid knowledge will not be able do shit alone there.
SurpriseIsopod@reddit
All a first responder can do is hope the veins aren’t destroyed to administer strong pain killers. These people have their upper dermal layer of skin blown off.
At the hospital they’ll be placed into coma. These people have a hard journey ahead and have a very high chance of dying of infection.
This is horrifying.
The guy recording can’t do anything.
ReasonablePossum_@reddit
Still can be taken to hospitals tho, at least the ones walking amd clearly conscious. They will get no more infection risk in a car than laying on the ground, and once in the hospital they will be injected with a bunch of antibiotics and antifungal stuff.
The ones that cant walk need EmT equipment for cardio, respiratory episodes, adrenaline for shock and all that stuff.
One can still try takng them to a hospital if one knows where and has the transport. In such a mass casuality scenario if they die in the car, they would have died laying on the street too, so only downside is the wasted space that could have been taken by someone with more chances of survival.
SurpriseIsopod@reddit
This is assuming the person recording has a car. The roads looked inaccessible as well from the other angles. Like traffic is stopped.
The person recording really can’t do much to improve the situation. It’s one of those situations where the best thing to do is nothing.
I don’t think people here are grasping how bad losing the outer layer of your skin is.
ReasonablePossum_@reddit
Oh sure, i wasnt referring to the person recording at all, just talking a hypothetical
anyway_you_want@reddit
Did you notice how their skin had massive white patching? That is burn. The man lying in the grass is in active shock, with the majority of his skin burnt.
I would be surprised if he survived the night. Bless him, bless them all.
Should you touch them, their skin would slip, causing fresh agony. Never ever touch anyone, unless they're in worse danger, do not touch! Stay with them and talk to keep them awake , but leave positioning and rescue to trained professionals!
Dont forget, the man filming is probably in shock himself.
platonicoasis@reddit
And offer aid how? You can’t even speak Spanish, he told them aid was coming. Ambulances are coming and you can hear them in the distance. What is this man supposed to do, place his bare hands against their burned off skin and give them blistering pain and potential infection? Pour water on them even though they aren’t on fire? 95% of their body is badly burned, likely third degree - they are walking dead. Let him record for history and as a warning and for posterity and to fucking document the crisis that happened.
AntiSonOfBitchamajig@reddit (OP)
Real, burns like this are not easily survivable even with the best technology. (that I currently know of)
dopebeatz@reddit
Seriously. What the fuck do people expect the guy recording to do? Without medical supplies you can’t really do much. Everyone’s a hero behind the keyboard though, what can you expect
south-of-the-river@reddit
My first thought is that they’re probably in shock themselves and using the phone to disassociate from what’s going on to some level
Got to remember too, that some people are just useless in a crisis

What a wild day to me in reddit.
sevbenup@reddit
You mean on earth?
PsudoGravity@reddit
Nah its been peaceful af near me, like always. The internet's been wild though
ExecutivePhoenix@reddit
Didn't something similar happen years ago, except is was their sewer that blew up or something?
loyalpagina@reddit
I remember seeing a video similar to this but it was somewhere in Africa. Googling isnt helping too much on pinpointing the explosion because apparently there’s been a bunch in African countries recently
AntiSonOfBitchamajig@reddit (OP)
There was a LNG truck in America a couple years ago that had walking wounded like this. SAME THING.... people watching a truck on fire and not GTFO. I hope people better realize how much danger there really can be by not sugar coating it by showing what happened today.
The_Stereoskopian@reddit
I can't begin to tell you the number of accidents that didn't happen because i spent so much time watching youtube car crash compilations my audhd ass sees this shit coming from a mile away
One time at a stop light i was watching the oncoming traffic and their light because i always see if traffic is actually stopping for their red light or not (bc crash comps).
This delivery truck at the front of the pack was not slowing down at all like the rest of the traffic for their yellow-red.
This lady next to my left at the front of our traffic goes to go on her green so i law on my horn. Delivery truck and lady hit the brakes mere feet from each other - she stopped quicker because small car + no built up momentum. Delivery truck didn't come to a stop till the other side of the light, tires squealing.
Nobody got hurt but i wonder what would've happened if I didn't beat the shit out of the horn.
NeonSwank@reddit
Im thankful my drivers education teacher made us watch crash videos
He said “There’s plenty of dead people that had the right of way”
douxcv@reddit
Living and driving in Philly forces you to look both ways before going when your light turns green. Good on you for preventing a crash but take care of yourself too.
-TheycallmeThe@reddit
Do you remember any details? I am in the LNG transport industry and don't recall hearing about an LNG tanker fire.
The vapor cloud does look like an LNG spill. SpaceX starship fires are similar.

Not sure, but I remember people in Mexico trying to steal gas from a pipe when it blew up all of a sudden.

WTF does this have to do with this sub..
AntiSonOfBitchamajig@reddit (OP)
I said once, but "Awareness of events", and if one person realizes just how dangerous a tanker fire is on here and gets away from it, by seeing this post... I'm all for it.
I hope people better realize how much danger there really can be by not sugar coating it by showing what happened today. Edit: and yeah, I'm one of those that seriously believe the r/watchpeopledie sub SAVED people.

What were you expectng based on the title?
Tablesafety@reddit
I'll be honest I was expecting distant shots, fire. Screams. Did not anticipate one of the burn victims shuffling up right there in the camera. Shame on me for looking, really.

Their clothes were blown off from explosion pressure and their skin flash burned. They're likely to have critical issues in the next days IF they survive from it initially yet alone infection.
