The one in this development timeline that really fascinates me is the P-43 Lancer. Serving the RAAF and USAAF as a long range and high altitude reconnaissance aircraft it deserves wider recognition.
I'd love to see one in a museum, but as they were all scrapped in 1944, that's a real shame. Mind you, if they can resurrect other 'lost' WWII fighters, why not this one, especially as it is powered by a R1830 Twin Wasp and there are plenty of those still around.
Good comment. It would be possible to build a replica P-43 around a twin wasp, but there needs to be some amount of original aircraft material included to qualify as a restoration. Maybe there is a Lancer fuselage hiding out in a jungle somewhere waiting to be found.
