That's about half the price of a Bugatti Tourbillon. Koenigsegg Jeskos trade for around $4.5M. F80 MSRP is 3.35M but they will trade for well above 5.5M.
This is a half the price of a regular hypercar, just like a ZR1 is half the price of say, a SF90.
You're just throwing numbers around. Let's stick with one number for all which is MSRP:
2025 ZR1: 175K
2025 SF90: 594K
2025 Ruveulto: 610K
You can obviously add options to both cars. Up to 40K or so for the ZR1 and maybe around 150K for the SF90. Overall the ZR1 is more like 1/3rd of the price maybe even 1/4th depending on spec. Not to mention the ZR1 out performs the SF90 in a straight line and around a track. Lastly, the ZR1 actually has a more functional and more luxurious interior than the SF90 and will cost much less to own in terms of maintenance, insurance, repairs, etc. Corvette is meant to be easy to live with.
Does a SSC Tuatura do any of that? Absolutely not.
SSC Tuatura is like 1.8 million
McLaren W1 is around 2.1 million
Ferrari F80 is around 3.7 million
Buggati Tourbillion is around 4.3 million
Koensigg Jesko Absolute is around 3.0 million
It's not 1/3rd price of its competitors, it doesn't have a better or more functional interior then them, it's unlikely to be as reliable or much cheaper to maintain, etc. It's not even showing any crazy numbers or records. They do tout a 300mph+ top speed but man it's been 5+ years without any concrete proof. Only one video which was shown to be false/inaccurate.
At the end of the day, it's an insult calling it the Corvette of hypercars. It's more like the Lucid of hypercars because that's exactly what it is.
>It's more like the Lucid of hypercars because that's exactly what it is.
I don't think that's fair; I've seen dozens of Lucids IRL, several times more than I've seen Nissan's new Z.
I'm not saying anything about the cars themselves (never sat in one, let alone made claims about them), but they're definitely a real "thing" at least. The Tuatara might as well be vaporware for how little I've seen or heard of it.
Believe it or not, the Nissan Z has been outselling the Supra. I don't see how the number of times you saw the Lucid versus Nissan Z affects this argument I was making all that much.
Maybe a better company/car would be Fisker? Idk all I know is it's not the Corvette of hypercars and that's the main point I wanted to make
Do you want to compare MSRPs or the price it'll take you to get one into your garage? Because there's no shot in hell you're getting any of those cars you talked about for MSRP.
At the end of they day, it's almost as fast as a Hypercar at a part of its price. Isn't that what the Corvette is about?
Buddy most of us can't even afford any of those vehicles. If you wanna be realistic, we shouldn't even be talking about this topic since none of us will ever be able to afford one.
And believe it or not these do get sold at MSRP to someone. And that someone will turn around and make a profit. The automaker earns around MSRP per car. That's why it's easiest to talk about MSRP.
Personally I'd consider it the Corvette of hypercars if it were sub $1 million. Imo, it's proportionally too close in price to its competition to be considered much of an underdog
Nobody wants to spend $2,500,000 on a kit car with a boosted Chevy V8. There is no prestige in this car and they
This car isn't even close to the same class as those others listed. This thing was made for straight line speeds only. I used to be a fan of SSC and was super hyped when they announced this car over a decade ago, but it's luster has faded.
>Edit: I find it funny that Matt Farah points out that a company selling multimillion dollar super cars is strapped for cash to do high speed testing.
What does this have to do with their ability to afford high speed testing? Let's say SSC has sold 10 of these at $2.5m per. If they even have the capacity to make 10 per year then their entire revenue for the year is $25m. That doesn't go very far when you have to:
\- Pay everyone in the company
\- Pay for all the components in the car
\- Pay for the space your factory and offices take up
\- Pay for all of the equipment needed to actually build the cars
\- Pay for the development of the car
\- Fund future R&D
So on and so forth. Just because they're charging a lot for a single car doesn't mean they're anywhere close to profitable as a company.
So it's a company with a non-viable product that will be out of money and out of business soon.
Is this the "Corvette of hypercars" in that like the maker of the Corvette they'll be looking for government bailouts?
I think in one of their pods a little while ago they said it better, or at least added some more context, saying it's the Corvette of Paganis. Nowhere near as refined, not as "nice," but broadly gets the job done for a fraction of the price.
What's crazy and impressive is that the college students that made a kickstarter for carbon fiber wallets a \~decade ago are now the company that is making the carbon fiber for this entire car.
You know what other car that could've been a good fit for this title? Chrysler ME4-12, but Mercedes didn't want it to step on SLR McLaren toes so it was killed. Now, at $2.5M, why not not add a few extra couple of hundred grand and get a Koenigsegg at this point, which is a FAR MORE SUPERIOR car in ALL aspects?
Apart from the stupid title, I’m glad someone is finally ACTUALLY covering the completed car. The Tuatara and the Czinger 21C are the only hypercars that I’ve had any interest in recent years.
Czinger is super interesting to me because of their 3d printing / additive manufacturing tech and their ai design tech. I recognized it in a video on Bugatti and rimac. The tech must be good if Bugatti / rimac deem it good enough to use. There is another hyper car manufacturer also using it, but their name is escaping me at the moment
Topology optimization (their AI optimization tech) is not new at all, but the sis they're doing with 3D printing is really sweet and allows them to take topology optimization further by reducing restrictions
Interesting, makes sense, thanks for letting me know. I'm not super knowledgeable about it by any means. I have 3d printed some stuff for my car before so I think seeing where the big boy tech is going is super cool.
Since no one actually reads the articles, I’ll share the section where he explains what he means:
>Â So am I being unfair to conclude that the SSC Tuatara is the Corvette of Pagani-class cars? That's what I'm describing here, and given the actual Corvette is now a legitimate Ferrari competitor in many ways, that's an entirely honorable thing to be. Think about it objectively, and the Tuatara does everything a Pagani Utopia or a Koenigsegg does, at least anything that matters to these customers. It has the goods: enormous power, carbon tub, wild looks, and a jaw-dropping top speed. The fit and finish is a step behind the competition. Not bad, just behind.
In other words, it’s a car that goes toe to toe with the other members of its class, for less money, but with worse fit and finish. Not an insult to the Corvette at all
But, it still doesn’t make any sense, because the Tuatara is $2.5 million dollars. “Less expensive” at that segment is a moot point to make when it’s ultimately a nearly $3 million dollar, few off performance car.
Had the Tuatara been $500k, then perhaps the title and point that the author was trying to make would’ve actually made sense.
Yes it’s expensive, but it’s less expensive than others in its class. If that point is lost on you, idk what to tell you; he’s not comparing it to cars that are less than 7 figures
SSC is one of those companies that do incredible work but are so small I don't even know if they're real. Like I only know them from video games and I go to a lot of car shows and have seen some super rare shit.
Their first car, the Aero was a true Corvette of Hyeprcar. It paired with a mod LS7 engine.
However, just like other these small exotic automakers, they don't use the engine from GM and Ford anymore and built their own .
I know there was a whole scandal with this car a few years back but it actually seems pretty solid now. The article is also very well written like everything from road and track.
