Time to put on the tune "nowhere to run to baby, nowhere to hide".

Where I’m at in the if you don’t sail in inclement weather you don’t sail 10 months out of the year.

Because of the lighting or because you realised it is very unresponsible to sail at night without proper nav lights?

I'm a paraglider and I go sailing. And when there is a thunderstorm I give all I can, to be safe and sound on solid ground!

Just read an article about the capsize of the super yacht Bayesian(and resulting deaths, including the billionaire owner). The last video was sent by a crew member of lightning like this just before the supercell winds hit.

...and your average $5000 Craigslist keelboat would have survived it easily.

Can confirm 84 Hunter built like a tank. She and I were in some nasty storms in the Gulf & Keys.

Hunter? Built like a … well, 1984, maybe.

this also falls under local knowledge stuff. around here, that initial wind almost always hits before the rain.. lightning may be visible. im pretty sure, iirc, that boat wasn't prepped for a storm, when there was a storm on the horizon and time. keel up and too much stuff open to allow water ingress in bulk when it heeled.

no reason to sail in lightning unless you have to... period

Bold move, flying a spinnaker in that. Pretty sure, I'm no where near that brave.
