I'm actually planning to install Linux on a similar mid-2012 model to use for school soon! Honestly feels kinda crazy how there's not that much to distinguish these old Macs from the newer ones, aside maybe ports and thickness I would expect it to be just as capable as the newer ones just by looking at it and not something that originally ran the old Aqua OS X

I've got a macbook pro early 2011 with arch linux and dwl installed and it runs so well that it only uses 750 mb ram. still daily driving it for taking notes and light gaming

which generation is that? i had an 8,1 from 2013 that still runs to this day. perfect pc in so many ways, i wish they had just kept the form factor and only made the internals better

It’s the 7th gen if I’m not mistaken
13’ mid 2010 version. Only true hassle was the SATA port that I snapped the 2012 version and it just works.

It's to be expected...any computer with 4 cores and 8 GB of RAM can easily run Ubuntu,Debian and similar distros
