Bread is one of the few linux YTers that doesn't make me want to reach through my screen to strangle them.
That said, I've not watched her non-Linux videos.
She's SERIOUSLY into minimalistic setups, something I just don't go for myself. I've worked for years at a time with nothing but bash, coreutils, and vi, so I don't feel like its silly to deny myself the luxury of a cohesive desktop environment.
wreath3187@reddit
she seems really down to earth. it helps that she has also non-linux videos where she expresses her thoughts on other topics. fresh content compared to many other sensationalist tech-bros.
linuxunix@reddit
I know people that brag how little packages they have installed. If I need something, its getting installed. Its the whole purpose of a computer...to you know, do stuff.
boar-b-que@reddit
Something I say in gaming, 'Why do you have a mana bar if you're not using spells?'
Why do you have 16gb of ram and a multi tb hard drive if your not putting that to use with software?
MonitorSpecialist138@reddit
I have those specs ( 2tb SSD, rtx 3050 m, i5 12500H ) and I use a minimalist setup ( tty and dwl when needed )
It's just because of preference + I like the stability
It's nice to also be able to daily drive basically even the most potato computers I can get my hands on
ThatsFluke@reddit
some games take up to 10gb of ram. OS takes 1-4(depending on windows or linux distro) and some people like discord and a browser open. 16gb is the standard for gaming and especially for less savvy users they should have a little bit of headroom in their RAM.
ptpcg@reddit
Unless its for a minimal direct purpose deployment with minimal resources, its not even a flex, lol
ptpcg@reddit
I earned my GNOME desktop đŽâđ¨
Express-Variation412@reddit
agreed. her, brodie robertson, and the linux experiment are the only linux yters i can stand
11177645@reddit
What about DJWare? I never see him get any mentions, do people not like him?
Express-Variation412@reddit
havent heard of him; will have to check him out
11177645@reddit
His Linux internals series is pretty good imo
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BU9m45WWqjM&list=PLWK00SLo2KcQi1hlP2_allMWeG19MkQa7
STSchif@reddit
Some of Brodie stuff is so... sensationalist and clickbaity that I stopped watching every video of his and only tune in eventually. SavvyNick covers kernel news way more neutrally without leaning to much into drama. Michael Tunnell is sometimes a bit cheesy, but still makes great educational news.
Express-Variation412@reddit
i'll have to check out savvynick at some point, though i feel like i've heard of him before. thanks for the recommendation.Â
michael tunnell is pretty good but i'm not a fan of reaction content, which causes me to subconsciously stray away from him lol
STSchif@reddit
Yep, I mostly look at Michaels topics and read the stuff myself instead of watching his video.
MarzipanEven7336@reddit
Yup!Â
Indolent_Bard@reddit
What do you have against the other linuc yters?
Little-Stable-989@reddit
My pet peeve is 30-minute videos for every release of popular distros. 'Fedora 42 came outâlet's go over everything that's been the same for 10 years, and also the hamburger menu has moved to the right side in Nautilus.'
thallazar@reddit
I find a lot of them pretty elitist and condescending. Not all for sure, but the community does breed a lot of that IME, then to be popular you have to cater to that mindset.
crystalchuck@reddit
Don't forget "vague, unsubstantiated, philosophical rambling about how systemd/Wayland sucks"
WokeBriton@reddit
I like learning about new-to-me tools, even if I'm never going to use them, but as soon as that crap starts, I click away and tell yt not to recommend the channel.
st33ve0@reddit
I really like Learn Linux TV/Jay LaCroix. He doesn't appear to have the ego and provides some great info.
opdrone47@reddit
For a girl who doesn't wanna be known as "The girl who does the Linux videos" She sure makes a lot of Linux videos
tiny_blair420@reddit
She also shares her music, nature content, some introspective and meta content surrounding content creation, etc.
Hella linux videos of course, but because it's one of her fixations- she just wanted to verbally indicate to her viewers that it isn't the pigeonhole she wants for herself.
opdrone47@reddit
Totally get it. She seems chill AF, I'd smoke a blunt with her and soak up some of that Linux knowledge
KaleidoscopePlusPlus@reddit
You think she smokes? I don't get that vibe.
opdrone47@reddit
I don't see why not. All types of people smoke bud
KaleidoscopePlusPlus@reddit
Of course, not to create a persona around who smokes or doesn't. I just didn't feel like she does.
opdrone47@reddit
I don't really want to speculate too much one way or the other, kind of a personal choice, ya know?
KingMoog@reddit
ill show her this thread and let her answer this question directly
KaleidoscopePlusPlus@reddit
waiting...
opdrone47@reddit
Why people downvote this I'll never know
apocbane@reddit
I do and make a living with Linux
3dPrintedVeganCheese@reddit
Well, yeah, but the music she makes is really good too.
opdrone47@reddit
Agreed
edthesmokebeard@reddit
Video 'articles' suck. This is just clickwhoring.
the_abortionat0r@reddit
Get help dude
edthesmokebeard@reddit
I just realized you can mute a subteddit, so this shit won't fill up my feed.
kronik85@reddit
No one is making you watch it. Move on.
Aggressive_Job_1031@reddit
Bread, Brodie and PewDiePie are the best linux youtubers
Aggressive_Job_1031@reddit
downvoters who do u think is the best linux youtuber?
the_abortionat0r@reddit
I think people downvoted you over the idea you think Pewds is a "Linux YouTuber" which as it stands he isn't.
You gonna say LTT is a Linux channel simply because they mentioned it?
jalmito@reddit
All 3 post the same, tired, content. Window managers, shell scripts, and utilities focused on âminimalismâ.
Grubbauer@reddit
will try
Stuffinator@reddit
Cool stuff and all, but I can't get over how high her monitors are set up. It's like above eye level, which is not very ergonomic.
FrostyDiscipline7558@reddit
Anyone have a breakdown of this? I don't reddit to watch youtube.
Indolent_Bard@reddit
If you have a gmail account you can ask gemini to summarize it, but having good content suggested by the community is a great use of reddit. This girl makes Linux content and original music, wouldn't have known if not for this post.
FrostyDiscipline7558@reddit
Hard to watch them when the wife is asleep next to me. :)
WokeBriton@reddit
Have a shop for (a knockoff version of the) "snoozeband"". BT to your tablet and listen without disturbing your wife.
FrostyDiscipline7558@reddit
Normally I'd have used my airpods... but the case died and wouldn't take a charge anymore. Got a new case for them the next day. Future problem averted. :)
WokeBriton@reddit
Great stuff:)
Sixguns1977@reddit
That's the exact same boat I'm in(i work nights). Plus, i would much rather read text and get right to the point.
FrostyDiscipline7558@reddit
Aw, downvoted by a lonely schmuck? Pound sand.
Roooker@reddit
The YouTube video "5 Linux Tools I can't Live Without" provides a summary of several useful Linux tools. The tools discussed are:
âWebcam Eyes: A shell script that allows a DSLR or other modern camera to be used as a webcam or for video recording [00:15].
âDISC: A colorized and better-formatted alternative to the standard df command for listing disk space, which includes a small graph for each disk [01:47].
âPure Bash Bible: A guide that provides Bash alternatives to tasks typically done with external tools [02:46].
âZephyr: A nested X server that runs as an application for testing window managers, working around problematic applications, and sandboxing [05:07].
âCopy and Move patch: A patch for the coreutils copy and move commands that adds a progress bar [07:29].
FrostyDiscipline7558@reddit
You rock, just so you know. :) Thank you.
lexxwern@reddit

irmajerk@reddit
OOOOh, Advcpmv looks very cool, thank you!!!
handlebartender@reddit
If you like that, you might like pv (pipe viewer).
irmajerk@reddit
OOOOHHHHH thanks dude, that's awesome. I didn't know I wanted these extra features until I found out I could have them!!!
HAHA Linux is awesome.
yllanos@reddit (OP)
Personally I liked the advanced copy one.
Ok-Anywhere-9416@reddit
I think I've "used" Xephyr when trying to have a LXQT or Plasma Mobile enviroment with Debian on my ChromeOS tablet đ§
mrbishopjackson@reddit
We love Bread over here, right?
Matheusdoedev@reddit
Great one. Thanks for posting!
Alone_Ambition_7581@reddit
Say what you will, but I discovered
dysk
because of her this video.STSchif@reddit
Yep, same. Super useful.
MrScotchyScotch@reddit
Actually useful tools, quick and to the point... what is this sorcery?
jalmito@reddit
More promotion for YouTubers who regurgitate the same old content.
You can count the number of Linux YouTubers worth watching on one hand. This isnât one of them.
WokeBriton@reddit
I agree that you can count them on one hand, but disagree with you about bread. Her channel is definitely worth being counted on that hand.
She sometimes goes a little fast for my foggy brain, but that's a me problem. I can always rewind a little.
drLobes@reddit
Then count her on the other hand.
Shine--Brite@reddit
what browser is she using?
ButteredHubter@reddit
She's awesome
EinSatzMitX@reddit
recently watched her video about bat, the enthusiasm she spreads is contagious!
elijuicyjones@reddit
I love Bread sheâs great.
obiwanfatnobi@reddit
Am I crazy or does she have the same mannerisms and inflection as penguinz0.
Thedinotamer01@reddit
Holy shit youâre kind of right đ
JockstrapCummies@reddit
They're actually the same person.
VTuber avatar tech is just that advanced these days.
redbarchetta_21@reddit
Zsh situation is crazy
Leather_Flan5071@reddit
:O SHE THE ONE WHO INTRODUCED ME TO RMPC
MacaroniAndSmegma@reddit
Never saw her content before, insta-sub.
Great videos on her channel.
maelstrom218@reddit
Bread is great. I'm new to Linux and managed to pick up some really cool programs/utilities from watching her stuff (rmpc and dysk primarily).
Her music is also surprisingly good too.Â
dobo99x2@reddit
Advcpmv is pretty much exactly what I've been looking for the in the last weeks. Damn, I'm happy.
f0o-b4r@reddit
Luke Smith female version
silence-is-speaking@reddit
sheâs great, love her music too
MeruMeru12@reddit
Bread became my favorite Youtuber
can_ichange_it_later@reddit
Heyoo! Bread is on r/linux. Cool!
Sirusho_Yunyan@reddit
Bread's really cool. I like her enthusiasm!
woolharbor@reddit
Might be useful to use a normal desktop environment when showing off desktop applications.
Separate-Industry924@reddit
Good stuff, thanks for sharing.
scuttledclaw@reddit
she's great
MutualRaid@reddit
Cool channel, I've enjoyed some of her videos.
