Does Dallas Police Even Respond?

Had a recent situation that required police officers. They couldn’t give any sort of response time, nothing. Called back, no information provided- they’ll get there when they can. 6 hours later, no response, nothing. What is the point of paying taxes to foot the DPD? They are completely useless!
Maximum_Noise_972@reddit
lol I called because I was being assaulted, the police didn’t show up and had the nerve to call me the next day to see if I still needed them
J_V_W@reddit
Dallas PDnis under staffed, under funded, and poorly managed. If you ever do get a resonce most of the officers are reasonably good. The job just can't be done properly with what they have to work with.
dalgeek@reddit
Probably not unless someone is actively shooting at you or robbing you.
ACG3185@reddit
Nah, they’ll tell you to report it via app.
EmotionalSupportDoll@reddit
If you bleed out first, that's one less thing for everyone to do. Be considerate
srw9320@reddit
Yeah, that's it. Bleed out. That'll teach them.
Repulsive_Pin_6585@reddit
What app?
oporky@reddit
Called 911 3 different times on a Sunday morning starting at 5:17 am for an active burglary and it took the cops 8 hours to arrive. This was 2 months ago around I-30 and Westmoreland.
RedwallLover@reddit
Or need an ambulance.

TheChrisSuprun@reddit
Robbery is a report, not a response.
dalgeek@reddit
So you don't think police should respond if someone is in your house robbing you while you and your family are present?
duckmuffins@reddit
That would technically be burglary
TheChrisSuprun@reddit
Didn't say that. I'd prefer they respond to noise complaints and vandalism too, but robbery in Dallas is a report. Until you shoot the intruder they don't seem interested. That is the facts.
Lonestarladd@reddit
I called DPD once to report an active kidnapping and it took them 2.5 hours to show up
earthworm_fan@reddit
Ehhhhhhh

Had a guy walk in my backyard and leave. Called police last week. Two cops showed up in 14 mins.
Return-of-Trademark@reddit
While I have all yall, how’s garland and sachse PD? Looking at moving in the next few years to thag area
TheErrorist@reddit
That's crazy. In Austin, a city that supposedly defunded their police, I've never experienced anything but almost immediate response times, even for non-emergency stuff.
SimpleVegetable5715@reddit
Really? I lived there about 20 years ago. This guy threatened multiple times to come to my apartment and assault me. Austin police said to call them back once he’s actually trying to break down my door.
TheErrorist@reddit
I don't think that's exclusive to austin...also it was 20 years ago.
strangelove4564@reddit
I was not able to get APD to respond to anything back in the mid-2000s when I lived around Slaughter Lane. I'm in a small city closer to Dallas now and they respond to almost everything, it's like what policing used to be.
SimpleVegetable5715@reddit
There was a car fully engulfed in flames off Ben White and 35 one NYE, and no response for almost half an hour. I lived there during the mid 00’s too. They were useless. That’s when everyone was getting their heads smashed with padlocks in hanker-chiefs too. APD has told me to call them back if the situation got worse. Like thanks 🙄
Upbeat-Dish7299@reddit
My ex was attacking me. I called police once she cut me with a knife. APD shows up arguing with me saying I wasn’t attacked despite bruises all over my face and bleeding from her cutting me and the neighbors telling them what happened. Then the officer starts hitting her trying to get her number.
Standard_Gap4944@reddit
That’s interesting because the Austin subreddit has a completely opposite take
TheErrorist@reddit
It's always been my experience! Maybe not universal I guess.
Western-Pay521@reddit
Yes. When you tell people who live outside major cities, they don’t believe you. Cops will puff out their chest and call you a liar. Denial, ignorance, whatever. It’s a fact of life. Why bother calling? We don’t. 911 has told my office assistant that if there’s no dead body, they aren’t coming. My neighbor had someone dump a dead prostitute outside her office in the middle of the day. She calls 911, freaking out, this lady is still warm with a gunshot wound to the head. Fire department gets there. Checks the body. Yep she’s dead, asks my friend if she called the police. Uh yeah! The fire department had to call the police to send someone out. One car with one officer finally shows up. Yep, it’s a dead body. Then he calls for investigators and other units. Welcome to South Dallas, organized crime on the order of a Goodfellas movie.
YirmadWackson@reddit
My house got shot up on 4th of July. I called 911 and the dispatcher asked me why I needed the cops when I could just pick up the bullet shells off the floor. No cops and no investigative unit until I personally requested them. South Dallas
Western-Pay521@reddit
I don’t get the lovefest for Eddie Garcia either, maybe he was better for the police force but he left Dallas worse than he found it. Broadnax leaves and we pick someone off his staff. There’s no hope of improvement, just support the status quo.
drink_jin@reddit
I was pulled out of my car at a gas station, pistol whipped and carjacked... after four hours of waiting on DPD and my third call to 911 asking when they would come, the 911 operator told me "police have more important things to deal with like rapists and murderers" and hung up on me.
major-unlock@reddit
It would be helpful to know what you were trying to report. Police are dispatched based on priority. Not defending DPD.
711SushiChef@reddit
DPD has always been one of the worst, least responsive agencies in Dallas. They're on the lower end of the payscale, so the suburban departments and other law enforcement agencies pick DPD clean of most good officers. The ones that remain generally fall into two categories, (1) political weasels that want to get promoted up the chain in a large department, or (2) ass and trash that have something in their file another agency's background investigator will find and prevent them from getting hired.
Don't expect a lot from them. The online reporting portal has an abysmal response rate, so try and be a victim of a crime in like Coppell or Plano if you can help it.
burrito3ater@reddit
Some sign up because they want to do actual police work (busting people) instead of sitting on their ass on Legacy Drive (Plano) or Denton Tap Road (Coppell) pulling over a 2004 Neon going 2mph over the limit.
springbluebell1@reddit
I read this as “bullying people” instead of “busting people” and was like, yeah, ok, this guy knows what’s up.
_draupnir_@reddit
Coppell cops pull you over for anything and everything
redthump@reddit
Nothing suspiciously specific about that response.
SadatayAllDamnDay@reddit
Hell, Plano PD barely pull people over for speeding given how many people go 10-15 mph above the speed limit basically everywhere that doesn't involve road work, so I'm not sure what he's talking about.
redthump@reddit
And I'm not upset about that. But don't fuck around in school zones. They are 0 tolerance, and nothing is worth accidentally hitting a kid or a crossing guard.
DallasM0therFucker@reddit
I’ll chime in on actively being burglarized: not then either. At least not if you call about it as it happens to a neighbor. I haven’t called about being robbed (being stolen from by threat as opposed to breaking into a place) or shot at or anything else since.
gentlechoppingmotion@reddit
Why not say you're being robbed? Even if they don't have a weapon someone taking your possession or money by force can be considered robbery. Ex. People ripping to jars off the cord at snow cone places were getting robbery charges. Either way it's not a false report bc no DA is going to charge someone with false reporting bc they said robbed instead burgled on a 911 call
DallasM0therFucker@reddit
I was just explaining the difference between the two terms in my Reddit reply because precise language matters. What was described to 911 dispatch was what was witnessed by the caller as it occurred, leaving the terminology and categorization to the professionals. (I use passive voice because it was a relative at my house who made the call. I wasn’t home.)
art_as_violence@reddit

imcrafty45065@reddit
Or try being crimed upon at a train station so you can call DART police.
711SushiChef@reddit
Eh, DART police may, in fact, be more useless than DPD.
DarkKnight735@reddit
Could try to contact DCSO. Technically they have jurisdiction, but not sure if they would respond or what their response times are relative to DPD.
Suspicious-Fig5458@reddit
No. They won’t unless you ask for EMTs. I’ve called after being in an awful car crash off 45 with a totaled car, they never showed. I’ve called after watching a women be physically assaulted and chased, and so did my neighbors, and they never showed. I call when a drunk driver hit and ran my car, and they never showed. A few months into living in Dallas I decided to buy a gun because you truly are your own first responder, unless of course you live in Highland Park lol.
SugnomaADC@reddit
Yeah it’s wild how even Garland PD has a much faster response time, Dallas PD is a joke, one time I was calling about a guy who was tweaking (probably off percs) at the QT on Forest and 635 (very high crime area) dude was running up on people at the gas pumps and and punching peoples windows if they didn’t open their doors and was chasing people around trying to get them to fight him, he eventually turned around and assaulted some old guy who wasn’t expecting him to attack him, at that point me and another gentleman got tired of his antics and we basically jumped him and put him to sleep, we held him down after waking up and waited two hours for DPD to show up and they never did, bro got lucky and didn’t go to jail that night for assault, battery and public intoxication. It’s just sad because what if that guy had a weapon ? If he had a gun and decided while he was tweaking he just wanted to kill someone he could have easily gotten away with it long enough that they would have had to track him down to make an arrest and someone would have died for that to happen. Our system is flawed to say the least.
marieand@reddit
FIVE police cars sure as shit will show up if your drunk bf calls claiming you’re(my sister) going to kys and then take you to the hospital in handcuffs racking up both a hospital bill and an ambulance bill. So you know. They’re all busy doing things like that. 💕
they were nice(?) enough to wait the hour it took me to drive from where I lived at the time to my sister’s house. All five cop cars. Waited. An hour. And she wasn’t going to do anything, but she got wild trauma and hella bills out of it.
FallenAutumnLeaflet@reddit
There was a car accident in front of the building I go to for physical therapy. The crash happened around 4/5 a.m. I arrived around 6:50 a.m. and one guy was cleaning out his car with the help of someone he had called. Police hadn't arrived by 8:20 a.m. when I finished my PT which had run a little long. I went and got myself a coffee nearby, walked back, and the police were barely arriving around 9:40 a.m. They arrived at the same time my Uber arrived.
Another time a family member called the police about a breakin into our house. Police arrived about 18 hrs later. My dogs took down the burglar and I kept the guys cash and some of his belongings. He dropped his wallet and his backpack was destroyed when my dogs attacked him. They found the guy because his school ID was in the wallet but I had his cash. Got a new laptop with it.
The only time they did respond fast was when one family member was in an accident and the car had smoke. The fire department responded quickly and I guess that's why police arrived soon after.
CookOtherwise2838@reddit
No. I got in an accident in North Dallas in 2022. They didn’t show up. After 3 hours of waiting I called them to say I was going home. They showed up at my door at 2am. The accident was at 7pm.
Icy_Needleworker958@reddit
Nope! Waited multiple days for them show up after I got rear ended 🤷🏽♂️
GrievingMyspace@reddit
I called a bit over a year ago because i could hear my neighbors fighting and they were threatening to stab each other. Only a few weeks after a 21 y/o was murdered in his apt on the second floor. Shot execution style, from what i understand.
The 911 operators literally laughed at me and said officers don’t come out for things like that, but they’d ask someone to stop by. Of course, they never came.
This is the second individual that has an unsolved crime from the same complex, around Ebar, on Ross Ave.
NoCelebration1320@reddit
Less police with a growing population and growing crime rate. Not great but pretty easy to understand what's going on.
Far_Spring3878@reddit
We were hit by a drunk driver around 7pm and they could not hold him becauseno officerwas available. We took his keys and they told us, give them back because that would be stealing. Let him drive away and they finally came to our home around 2am. They only show up after someone dies.
Trick-Wall7824@reddit
I’m pretty sure they determined that your situation didn’t need immediate attention or else they would have showed up. If there was no violence, burglary, abuse, or anything like that, the cops aren’t rushing to get there. Everything doesn’t need police presence.
thoomikhanki@reddit (OP)
It was theft of multiple items. Over $50,000 dollars worth.
SimpleVegetable5715@reddit
They have to respond to people actively in danger of dying first.
dfwpopo@reddit
Theft, no matter the value, is a low priority call for us. There's no danger to life. The domestics and robberies and mental health crisis calls which we are flooded with take priority.
claudial12@reddit
Apparently getting followed home be a stranger who them parks behind my vehicle and blocks me from entering my house is also not a priority. 4 wheeled it across a field to get to one of Dallas' finest just to have the officer put his hand on his firearm and threaten me because I was'bothering him'. I pay 13k in property taxes every year for that? F the DPD.
dfwpopo@reddit
You certainly have the option of going to IAD about it. But yeah if I see a car driving at me all crazy I'm going to draw my firearm and see what the hell is happening.
TexDubya@reddit
Give them images serials and receipts. As much data as you can. You dont need an officer for that.
Trick-Wall7824@reddit
Issues like that you can walk into a local station and file a report. The cops don’t always have to come to the scene. Walk in and file a report and an investigator can do a follow up with you.
stojanowski@reddit
Nah Gibbs should be coming out to preserve the scene of the crime
Trick-Wall7824@reddit
You watch too many movies
Beginning_One1134@reddit
File a report online. Nothing patrol officers can do after the suspect already left.
SimpleVegetable5715@reddit
They responded fast when by ex attacked me, under 5 minutes. Sent a woman cop too, thank goodness. A bunch of the people here are mentioning long waits for things where there isn’t or no longer is imminent danger. Emergency services have to respond to the more serious issues first.
Warm-Silver9371@reddit
I was a bystander in a fun little semi-automatic stand off. Took 20 minuets to respond to the wrong location.
Business_Article5656@reddit
i unfortunately frequently dial 911 due to our crime in the alleyway behind my home. they've shown up 1 time - and when they did, told me how much paperwork it would be and i should just let it go. my neighbors and i all feel like they wouldn't respond if someone was dying - they showed up 6 hours after a woman was robbed at gun point...happened at 7pm and showed up at 1am

Better_Fudge6641@reddit
There is a crisis in Dallas right now so I’m not surprised h didn’t get a response
ChrisEWC231@reddit
What's the crisis? Dallas has more cops per capita than other Texas cities of any size. Only Houston comes close.
Better_Fudge6641@reddit
The crisis, my friend, is that Dallas police is the WORST DEPARTMENT in the state of Texas. The response to a priority call (1 or 2) is at like 93 minutes and it’s supposed to be 12 minutes. That’s IF they ever even get answered. Wanna know what’s more fucked? The going salary is somewhere around 71,000 for the average cop? They are talking about upping it to somewhere in the 80,000. As an incentive to get MORE officers to join the department. I think they need to focus on cracking down on the officers that are already in the department that ARENT doing their jobs. Cause thats where the problem is. I can’t tell you the last time I actually saw a car patrolling on a Friday or Saturday night
Beginning_One1134@reddit
They’re understaffed… they’re inundated with actual emergencies.
Better_Fudge6641@reddit
I’m a personal witness to some of the fuckery.. they need to do a check on their people.
Beginning_One1134@reddit
I was a cop in Dallas and went to a different department for higher pay — yes. They get busy. No. Not everything you consider an emergency actually is b
ChrisEWC231@reddit
Yet, stats say crimes are going down while response times are getting longer.
Something else is going on besides high crime and cops are busy.
Beginning_One1134@reddit
When I worked in the 911 Call Center before I went on the road for patrol, you’d be amazed that the people that call 911 thinking things are an emergency…
A person called saying her package got stolen because it was delivered to the wrong building and wanted an officer to come and pick up the package… Nope, we are an emergency service, not a carrier service. Get the box yourself.
A person called because they were in traffic near the reunion tower… And they’re like, can you get an officer out here?… For what? Well there’s traffic… It’s a Friday night before Christmas in a major US city, there’s going to be traffic.
A person called from a condo complex saying someone was grilling on their deck, OK cool, not an emergency unless the deck is on fire. “ well the HOA said they can’t grill because there’s a fire last week…” then call the HOA, when it starts burning again, then give us a call
People think things are an emergency when they truly are not. The police don’t waste their time with random BS.
ChrisEWC231@reddit
None of those calls make it into the crime stats. It's a job where all kinds of nuts, and even little kids, call in wacky stuff.
Crime stats - real crimes - are reported by DPD to be going down. Yet response times repites by DPD are going up.
Crank calls on 911 aren't part of crime stats.
Beginning_One1134@reddit
It’s also different classifications. For example, does something get put in as an aggravated assault when it’s a simple ass assault, is it reported as aggravated assault if it’s a family violence offense? Somethings are in great areas so they either upgrade or downgrade what crimes are which is what they report to Compstat.
I’ve had crimes upgraded from what they were to something that it actually wasn’t, but by the same token, I’ve also had crimes that I’ve made a rest for be downgraded, because they thought the DA would not indict
ChrisEWC231@reddit
Who is doing the upgrading or downgrading? Is DPD manipulating the numbers?
Beginning_One1134@reddit

Better_Fudge6641@reddit

Better_Fudge6641@reddit
I’m not a snitch so I won’t say the officers name- but he is still on the force, has been for maybe 13 years now.? At the time, it had been 9.? The reason I say check on y’all’s people is because I used to go meet him off 20 at some warehouse parking lot off 20 in the middle of the night. I was early 20s and I felt like miss billy badass cause he would be on duty, in his squad car and in full gear and I’d be by my car, smoking a blunt and NOT getting arrested. He’s the reason I know that the cameras can be turned off (after a 15 minute grace period because they don’t stop recording right away) I was shown the computer- the call screen with 2 pages of unanswered calls and I remember seeing a stabbing, at least three shootings and seeing the call time at 13 hours, 19 hours, etc.. he said if they aren’t answered around a couple hours past the time the call originally came in, they weren’t going to be answered… The amount of active calls that were going on while I’m seeing the map and can see that there are 4 cars at the QT around the corner and sir slacks a lot over here in the parking lot with me. Another occasion, I think he said it was his sergeant? He was in active pursuit. I’m literally standing at the door while the radio blared and it starts with him reading off the plate. Then you hear the engine roaring. Sirens blaring as he is listing every move the car is making. Then he’s running cause they ditched the car. When the suspect was captured, that’s when my friend, the “hero” in black and blue decided it’s time to respond cause he was supposed to have been backing him up the whole chase.
Masters and 175? This was around Covid and I know domestic violence sky rocketed during that time- But I had called 911 while my ex was kicking in my windshield- I was on the phone with an operator while he was actively punching me in the face. I hung up after a neighbor chased him off with a baseball bat. I was told they were coming. He came back. It’s like the whole scene happened the same way it had unfolded just 3 hours prior. Im on the phone again, he’s on the hood of my car kicking in my windshield, im screaming to the operator as he grabs me through the driver window and starts wailing on me AGAIN. I don’t remember what happened to make him leave but he was gone again until maybe the 9th hour since I had made the first call? He jumps on the hood and this time the operator tells me to hit the gas and get out of there and I reversed that bitch so quick the mother fucker flew off the hood. I couldn’t see but I busted a bitch real quick and pulled up to the gas station that had been closed for hours at that point. The operator stayed in the line until they finally responded. While im recalling everything, a lady officer asked me why I didn’t hit him with my car. I told her I tried but there was a house and a tree in the way. I was so distraught but I watched a bike roll up off the service road and I would have bet every last piece of my life that it was him. They told me it was a blue bike, not a red one like I had said. It was probably my own mind playing tricks but I’m still not convinced it wasn’t him. He wasn’t arrested until at least 6 to 8 months after the fact and that was after he punched my windshield that I had finally got replace after having to pay almost $1000 to get it out of the impound and fixed. A cop just so happened to be passing me and I waved them down cause he was literally attacking me while i was driving and ripped my key fob out of the ignition. So maybe you’re right.. understaffed and what not.. I think it’s that they don’t have the officers assigned correctly in all these areas that they are needed.. and now they are understaffed because they don’t have the man power from not running the department the way that a department of that size needs to be ran so now they are trying to push more incentives to recruit new officers. It’s not gonna improve the situation by hiring new meat and placing them in an old freezer that still runs the same bullshit way. Im also not trying to tell yall how to run shit because God knows I’m not qualified. But I’m not gonna ignore the fact that I know just how dirty people are. And my friend from the first part? He’s got a dick flashing fetish and when I asked if every woman he’s been partnered with had seen his pork sword, he responded with “not all of them”
Better_Fudge6641@reddit
I forgot to add that I have a friend who can access the radio chatter from specific precincts on specific dates and times and I know that to my active assault, they responded to a noise complaint AND.a hit and run with NO injury. Before they responded to me and both calls came in AFTER mine.
Better_Fudge6641@reddit

LowkeyLush@reddit
yeah that’s infuriating. paying taxes for a service that doesn’t show up when you need them is beyond frustrating. understaffing and poor prioritization are often to blame, but it doesn’t make it okay. you might consider filing a complaint with internal affairs or reaching out to your city council member sometimes public pressure gets a response. hope you’re safe.

I called a few months back about a man punching a 7-11 attendant,That my boyfriend had him physically restrained but that the guy had a knife. One hour later he finally had to give up waiting because he was late for work. Went by the 7-11 on the way home to check on the attendant and they said the cops never showed that he would have to go to the police dept and file a report so he could get workers comp. It’s about the same in Denton. I was involved in a car accident and the police never showed up. Hours went by and nobody ever showed up. I called dispatch to ask them if they had sent someone and they told me to figure it out myself.
Rubychan11@reddit
Why did you need police at an accident? Was one of the drivers visibly intoxicated?
IntrovertExplorer_@reddit
The other driver didn’t have insurance. We were both teenagers at the time. Her mom showed up hours after her shift with the insurance paperwork. Crazy how we both just waited lol. Good on her for having integrity and staying.
Rubychan11@reddit
Ah that's fair. My bad, I just see so many idiots causing traffic over a little fender bender cause they think "we can't move the cars until the cops get here!!!!" so they just stop in the middle of 5 lanes of rush hour traffic.
KC5SDY@reddit
Sadly, DPD is severely understaffed. If your situation was a lower priority issue, there is a decent chance they may never show up.
imcrafty45065@reddit
DPD is trash.
MrsPatty60@reddit
They no better in Fort Worth.
Upbeat-Dish7299@reddit
Not Dallas but Arlington PD. My ex was attacking me. I called police once she cut me with a knife. APD shows up arguing with me saying I wasn’t attacked despite bruises all over my face and bleeding from her cutting me and the neighbors telling them what happened. Then the officer starts hitting her trying to get her number.
DonkeeJote@reddit
Look, as a society we have decided that we would rather just pay more in insurance than we would prefer to fund a proper police department.
There are a ton of factors that lead in to that, from being rightfully wary of a police state with oppressive forces to a downright disregard for the people who take the badge. Police forces nationwide have ruined their reputations with brutality and force. Until they can figure that out and earn the public trust and funds, we will continue to only get their statements to submit to our insurers.
PercentageDear6064@reddit
Dallas Police are the worst. Took them 8 hrs to respond to our stolen car
DonkeeJote@reddit

Beginning_One1134@reddit
They don’t need to respond per se. they have cameras where they can track the plate and see where it goes. You can report it stolen online and get a report number for insurance
Careless-Ad-6328@reddit
A few years ago (3?) there was a report made by multiple people of two people arguing in the street, then what sounded like a shotgun blast. I was not home at the time but my neighbor was and was one of the people who called 911.
Police took 3 hours to show up. They went to three doors (my neighbor who called it in, my neighbor across the street, and mine), but aside from the caller, no one else was home. DPD packed up and left. You can't even find a record of the call or an incident report in the DPD portal. They just sort of decided nothing happened after showing up hours late and doing virtually nothing before giving up.
They don't police speeding and reckless driving around my neighborhood. They won't come out to the scene of a car accident unless an ambulance is involved. And they can't even respond to a shooting report. DPD is legit straight-up the least useful police force I've had to live with.
And now the Library, pools, and other government services that ACTUALLY DO GOOD are being trimmed or shut down entirely to put more money in the police pension fund.
I have zero sympathy for DPD at this point. Given how little they're actually accomplishing I think we should defund them and put that money back into programs that actually make our community better. Because they sure as hell aren't.

DonkeeJote@reddit
Were you in immediate danger?
graceconcepts@reddit
they responded to a DV call i had recently…5 hours later….
NazgulGinger917@reddit
Buy a gun?
ChrisEWC231@reddit
DPD over responds to those things which they respond to, meaning they send more than necessary, then don't reassign them quickly enough to other things.
That's one of the main reasons they're "short" on officers. Dallas actually has more officers per capita than most Texas cities of any size. Only Houston is close.
It's all mismanagement. There's a nearly 400 page audit of the PD done by KPMG explaining all the problems.
Bottom line, nope they're not showing up. It's pathetic. I'd recommend you put all the details into writing and sending it to your city council member.
YaGetSkeeted0n@reddit
it's the damndest thing. i won't act like i know much about police operations, but how many officers do you need standing around at a crime scene well after the fact?
gosuprobe@reddit
probably at LEAST half as many as stand around doing nothing while it actively happens
MethanyJones@reddit
Only useful to get a report number for your insurance. You can try to file a report online but they have weird rules that aren't disclosed, it may not be accepted
Glueberry_Ryder@reddit
I was robbed off Hampton and 30 at a DPD substation. Took them 90 minutes to send a car. I only know that cause the cop called me and asked where I was, told him I ptfo’d I had to go to work!
goodjuju123@reddit
My friend was burgled in the middle of the night while he was home. The police showed up 18 hours later.
Fit-Bobcat-3777@reddit
No.
Reluctantziti@reddit
But if you need an HOV checkpoint there will be three officers standing by
fuqsfunny@reddit
Depends on your neighborhood.
Exquisite_G@reddit
"You have reached 911 emergency services. We are closed. If you have a rape or murder in progress, leave your contact information and we will respond when we damn well feel like it."
Later2theparty@reddit
Its Dallas. The whole city is dysfunctional.
Dallas really just needs to be split into a handful of smaller cities.
Worried-Rooster6400@reddit
I'm surprised that they didn't respond. I'm sorry. I used to work for the City of Dallas and I know that they are paid well. I would call the Dallas Chief of Police and complain about it.
thoomikhanki@reddit (OP)
How do I get in touch with them?
Worried-Rooster6400@reddit
The Chief's name is Daniel Comeaux, the main phone number for his office is: 214-671-3001. I would start there. Explain what has happened to you, the day and time. Good Luck.
YaGetSkeeted0n@reddit
The old wisdom of proponents of firearms for home defense was "when seconds count, the police are only minutes away."
I suppose several hours are still, technically, minutes...
sbb-tx@reddit
This is also why I don’t understand all the other cities wanting Garcia as Chief. Why?
Sad_Armadillo2497@reddit
He literally does nothing. He just partied with the Latin police association.
thoomikhanki@reddit (OP)
Update: hitting the 8 hours point, still nothing. They are absolutely useless in my book.
‘Wait till you need them, then you’ll see how important they really are!!!’….
GeoffGIF@reddit
Naw.
Sup3rphi1@reddit
Remember those defund the police protests?
Here we are.
TheErrorist@reddit
Nope. In Austin I've never experienced mote than a 10-15 minute wait for police.
chevyswanger@reddit
Capitol City, will always have more police and more resources, including "capitol police" and much more state trooper units in city limits etc. you could expect to find similar in most states capitals
ChrisEWC231@reddit
Never, at any point, in any year, were Dallas police "defunded."
Even in the year it was discussed, the budget was increased $50 million.
Physical_Lab2815@reddit
Hahahahaha really? Is that what happen?
How do you come to terms with the reality that DPD increased their budget from last year and has increased their budget pretty much every year?
When are we supposed to see the defending?
Why would you even say something so wrong? Did you just make it up?
Lampietheclown@reddit
Where are we? Dallas police have not been defunded.
Independent-Math-914@reddit
Doubt it. I had a domestic dispute once. Called... they didn't take me seriously so I didn't bother getting anyone dispatched....
KiddK137@reddit
There was one instance last year where I seen a very nasty crash and called the police cuz I didn’t see any response vehicles. Went to voicemail. They called about 8 hours later, didn’t answer cuz I don’t answer calls. So they called again 2 more times, finally picked up and they asked if I still needed help. Said no, those poor crash victims are probably planning the funeral. I don’t think she was too happy with my response.
PsychoticBrake@reddit
I had an incident this past weekend. Called in at 11, got a call back around 2, and a visit near 4. Around 7 crime scene came by to collect evidence. I know I’ll never hear from them again, but everyone was very nice.
DarkKnight735@reddit
Could try requesting a deputy from the Dallas County Sheriff's Office respond next time. Separate agency but they still technically have jurisdiction. Not sure if they would respond but seems like it's worth a shot if you ever run into another issue requiring a police response.
Unlucky-Paint-1545@reddit
DPD is chronically underfunded & understaffed for being a large city. Not an excuse but not exactly surprisingly either.
mweyenberg89@reddit
You need to fire off a few shots first. Then they'll show up
No_Bend8@reddit
No. They say they'll come to investigate a robbed truck but 12 hours later..never show up. Even after multiple calls lol
sentient-cyborg@reddit
I called for a potential kidnapping and they called me back 2 hrs later to see if I was still there, I followed them turned out to be his daughter but they're useless on tax paper money.
Vegetable_Owl_3553@reddit
no. hope this helps!
Nemesisguy214@reddit
Tell me about it
Txcavediver@reddit
I must be on a list or some as they have responded to all three of my calls with 90 seconds and with at least three patrols cars.
