The 'wheels' were tracked, but the wheels could rotate so that the track was flat on on ground. They could also rotate to assist with climbing up an uneven surface.

what I found odd was the tracks aren't flat on the ground, its on the points of the triangles which increases wear and reduced friction

It would hardly be able to turn that way. It would have to drive exactly like a tank. This way, at least you can steer it like a car (kinda).
