Went to pub last week that has a tenner for a pint and fish and chips deal...food comes from the chippy across the road. I preloaded my handbag with a bottle of ketchup. Always be prepared.

I was the side quester Found a fledgling sparrow in the middle of town that didn't seem to be doing so well there was no safe place I could release said sparrow, couldn't find a box either, cue a panic stricken walk with baby sparrow in hand to a vet (which wasn't that far away but felt like it took forever due to the circumstances) because I had no idea what else to do at the time and I would've felt terrible just leaving them even though I'm aware nature is nature.

Stood outside a shop the other day. One black VW crossover parked outside and one black Skoda crossover parked outside. Fella comes out, gets into one of them, then gets back out laughing and tells me excitedly "that's not my car" we both crack up laughing at it and then he goes and gets in his actual car, which was parked behind. Mission success

At the Private Party Night at Essen Classic Car Show, I squirrelled away every glass I could find. On the normal days they came with a €3 deposit, or a €2 deposit, depending on the bar (but for the same glasses) so I was already buying beer at one bar and returning empties at another. After the party I made several hundred Euros returning glasses. I still have one here somewhere. This was 22 years ago. It was worthwhile.

I once saw a kid collect hundreds of cups, but then the staff told him he could only claim 10 per transaction (50p discount). Kid calmly walked up and down the queue for the bar, selling 10 cups for 20p. Not only did he shift the cups, but he now had cash rather than bar credit that he mostly couldn’t use. That kid grew up to be… (not don’t know, but the way I wrote that feels like a life lesson from a story about some billionaire or something)

That all? Man that's tight of them. Download Festival maxes out at 250 cups a day per person, each one being worth 10p, so potentially 25 quid a day. 75 quid saving for anyone hitting the cap every day.

My mate bought an A-Z specifically so he could find a road called Bell-End in Walsall, because he remembered when he was a kid there was a shop there called Bell End Newsagents and he wanted to take a photo of it. He did all this on the way to meet me at the pub (which I'll treat as the main quest).

Leeds fest 07'. I was totally skint at the time, and my friend lost her purse on the first evening and so we had no money for activities. They implemented a beer Amnesty where you could get a free beer in exchange for a green bin bag filled with empty cans, or 3 free beers for a bag of crushed down beer cans. Me and my friend (for some reason she was wearing a red ballgown, and I a sleeveless paisley trenchcoat) spent 20-30 mins digging crushed cans out the muddy areas of the camp site DJ tents. Filled 10 bags, exchanged for 30 beer tokens. (To be honest the people exchanging the bags were pretty clueless because those bags were below half full imo) Swapped a bunch of the beer tokens for some MDMA with a stranger, then swapped some of the MDMA with another stranger for some shrooms! With plenty of drink tokens left for ourselves. Il never forget sitting in the Tuborg inflatable bar, waiting to come up and having a "cheers" moment with our shit lager, knowing we'd done a thing.

My parents' friends used to have a villa in Turkey, and the husband is one of those super productive people who can't sit still. Once while we're on holiday with them after joking he was going to paint the villa pink much to his wife's dismay him and some guy he found somewhere just start painting this massive villa, it takes him a couple of days and his Mrs hates it which just amuses him further. Then, a couple of days before we leave, he gets everything back out again and paints it back white, 4 days of graft in the baking sun just to wind his Mrs up.

I used to live opposite a very, very elderly couple and the old man's life seemed to be a side quest. I'd watch him hose rinse then hang plastic shopping bags on his washing line, spend hours every week cleaning the hubcaps of his car with a toothbrush, every time a bird or cat flew into his garden he'd run outside to shoo it away. He'd stand in his lounge window ironing newspapers and socks. His wife on the other hand was just a tea drinking machine.

My partner's uncle is just a walking side quest magnet. Need him to be in a particular place, such as a train station, at a specific time? Can guarantee he will get distracted by sorting a shelf before he leaves the house, then "Oh, must fold those towels before I leave...", finally get him out of the house, only to realise he's left the dog lead behind, jog back, "Give me 5 mins, I need some ciggies from the shop..." We usually leave him at that point and he will make his own way to the station, inexplicably getting there before we do, having also stopped to put the world to rights with every homeless man, and child who wants to stroke the dog, on the way.
