They are in the country illegally that's the current issue. The real problem is the plant they were working at got a sweet tax deal from the state because it would create a lot of jobs for the local citizens and bolster the economy. It seems the locals weren't able to get the promised jobs.

This part of the plant hasn't started production yet. Construction phase.  You also have no idea how many are in the country illegally. I'm sure there are variety of cases. According to nyt one of the people detained was on a weeklong business trip for example.  Can you imagine the uproar if they detained 100+ American engineers from Apple, ford, gm at their Chinese operations.

> Can you imagine the uproar if they detained 100+ American engineers from Apple, ford, gm at their Chinese operations. For some reason, I imagine most people won't actually give AF. Only people on Reddit get outraged by this kind of shit.

I mean there would be uproar in America for sure, but I don’t think there would be any uproar in China.

Maybe there should be. The instability caused by this performative hate circus destroying America's reputation as even a good, let alone the best, place to do business.

This isn't an isolated incident and has been going on since 2019 with SK Innovation, another South Korean battery company\[1\]. Those big Korean battery giants hire contractors/sub-contractors with substandard labor/visa practices and just turn a blind eye. When they get caught, they blame their contractors. Rinse, repeat! Most detained are employed by those contractor/sub-contractors. There also appear to be a dozen of so execs from LG on a week long visit on proper non-work visa. 1. How do you know when there is no due process?

First children and now non citizens. What’s next? Animal labor

Importing slave labor from Libya. These MF'ers need cheap ass labor to compete with the Chinese EV's.

>What’s next?  Of course, robots! Hyundai owns Boston Dynamics and plans to order tens of thousands of BD's Atlas humanoid robot next few years.

What should this guy do: “One had gotten here Tuesday and was going home next week,” Kuck said. “He was on site that morning, literally sitting in a conference room in his shirt and tie with a vest on from the company, waiting for a meeting, doing exactly what he’s allowed to do under a visa waiver.”

Not much details yet, but note that coming here with the wrong visa (i.e. ESTA or tourist visa and then working here) would make them illegally present too

Wrong.

Don’t worry guys, totally legit attorney Chuck Kuck is on the case > “Charles Kuck, an Atlanta-based immigration attorney representing two of the detained South Korean nationals, told NBC News his clients were in the U.S. on the Visa Waiver Program which permits tourism or business stays of up to 90 days.”

What would happen if I opened up a factory in South Korea and used undocumented American workers. Hummmm.

They have similar problems in South Korea, but with illegal Vietnamese and Chinese workers. Many are outraged by this.
