I’m gonna be honest here I vaguely knew about Beavis and Butthead for awhile now, but only recently, after I photo of my dad at an actual branded shop experience thing did I realize how influential they were. So yeah I’m just curious what the ratio of new fans vs old fans we got here. I’m only 19 so definitely a new fan!

I'm 32. Born in May, 1993 so I'm almost as old as the series itself. I first discovered it when I was 9 thanks to a friend who had the VHS tape of Do America and the compilation tape titled "Feel Our Pain". Soon after that it became a full on hunt for more which led to me amassing every tape of the series that was ever released in the UK, the B&B Experience album and even the script book of Do America, all of which I still have to this day.

Been watching from the beginning, and got my son into it he's 18 how, and I'm 47. My online name is a sorta mashup of two different before and butthead side characters (one was a one-off actually). Invented that in about 1996 or so, as a "handle" on early internet forums.

Nornarul@reddit (OP)
omg that actually rocks. i need to figure out what head banger ball is though…
shreddy_on_acid@reddit
It was a hour long metal show that played on the weekends and had a different band on every time it usually played after beavis and butthead . Back then there wasn't much rap, mtv was 95% rock and metal. I miss those days

Haha, thanks - I only worked on it for like 2 weeks & then I got moved onto a Sega Genesis game (not Beavis). So - I really had nothing to do with it other than maybe finding some bugs. But - it was a very funny 2 weeks. 🤘

fabyhoppus@reddit
ThisMayoisSpicy@reddit
Mid-forties, I was the shows target audience and the ones who the show meant the most too.
Most kids my age came home and turned in MTV (if they had cable) then after your parents went to bed, back to MTV.
Beavis and Butthead was at first a phenomenon for the violence it depicted. There was no internet. This was the only place you could see something like that. And while now looking back on it it's aged poorly and it's crude and gross and not really funny, but it was significant when it happened.
The show later evolved into a pretty well-aged criticism/observation of where culture was going. The listlessness of youth, the homogenization of culture, the celebration of stupidity and complete absence of shame.
And I think that's why it resonated with us. The video segments where they just rip on or celebrate the music, that's something every kid was doing watching 120 minutes after hours or headbangers ball, MTV raps or later TRL. And while we all saw Beavis and Butthead as idiots, there was a part of them that was reflected in all of us.
It didn't change the culture, it pointed out how culture was changing us before any of us realized it. That's why it's influential.
CardiologistMany7463@reddit
What didn’t age well? Are you talking about the REALLY early episodes/segments (I.e. “Frog Baseball”)?
ThisMayoisSpicy@reddit
Yeah. The most violent parts of the show. The episodes overall hold up, but that one specific element I don't feel aged well and that's why Mike Judge has toned in down in the reboot seasons.
