Parachutes had to be worn during my time in the Air Force when flying this one, also as a passenger. The pilot gave us the parachutes and said "when I say jump and someone asks why he is talking to himself."
Open? Nobody said anything about keeping antiques in the open.
The people who collect multiple rare old planes are often in the same income bracket as the people who own the t-hangar you're renting, if not the exact same people.
If they don't have a hangar that fits, they build one.
Source: I rent my hangar space for the bigger birds from a guy who owns more planes that cost more than mine.
I’m reminded of a tale told by an aviation journalist, who was hired to provide the words for a book about aviation aimed at younger (pre-teen) readers. The artist hired to provide the pictures knew little about aircraft, and was provided with a variety of photographs from which to create drawings. Having presumably only ever seen airliners, the artist assumed that whenever an aircraft was in flight it must retract the landing gear, so they illustrated everything without wheels. Apparently the otherwise staid Do-28 looked rather rakish with the gear up.
It's the descendant of the single engined Do.27, whose wing is highly optimized* for STOL operations. I guess the engineers decided the structural weight penalty of mounting the engines on landing gear pylons was worth not redesigning the wing to account for wing-mounted engines messing with those finely tuned aerodynamics.
*not many planes have a full span leading edge slot so full span it isn't even interrupted by the fuselage, nor is a flap, a flaperon, and an aileron a common configuration for such a small plane.
The first new Do328 eco will fly this year. It's a pity they had to stop production and couldn't produce the 428, 528, 628 and 728. The latter had three prototypes and the very first one moved to DLR for scientific cabin testing.
All - due to the (greater than expected) interest in this beautiful little restored plane, I’m posting the original source so you can see more pictures and read more about it.

Gotta say, most of the things on the sub I’ve heard of or seen but this is new. And it’s really beautiful.

All red planes are beautiful.

This plane has been posted several times before, most recently a few weeks ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/WeirdWings/comments/1mnnqpc/dornier_do_28a1
I agree it's beautiful.

Shame the DO27 and 28 don't fit in a regular T hangar. Otherwise I'd have one.
old_flying_fart@reddit
The cost of upkeep on rare old birds is such that if hangar costs are your main concern, you're worried about the wrong costs.
Source: Own multiple old planes that don't fit in T-hangars.
setthrustpositive@reddit
Well the would have sold more if they fit in a T.
I just prefer to have my equipment under cover than out in the open.

Not here in the Northeast.
Most T Hangars have a 15 year wait.
Large Hangars are only available when there's a financial crisis.
Only one airport has shade structures. Its a 10 year wait.
old_flying_fart@reddit
Huh. I wonder why there is a large concentration of air museums and private collections in the southwest.
(The desert air helps, but it's the cheap land more than anything else.)

"How do we trick people into buying a biplane?"
Jokes aside, that thing is sexy
ofnuts@reddit
Technically this is more a sesquiplane.
miksy_oo@reddit
Sesquiplanes are still biplanes

It has two engines, it's a twibiplane!

The upward sightlines of a high-wing plane, the downward sightlines of a low-wing plane, plus the ground handling of a tail-dragger! All in one plane!
Swisskommando@reddit (OP)
I’m actually impressed the wing is strong enough not to need struts
Rich_Razzmatazz_112@reddit
Wait... No floats?
Swisskommando@reddit (OP)
This is true but they have made a huge range of aircraft, as long as they’re sufficiently funny looking. Like the 328 jet/prop regional planes.
pope1701@reddit
Hey, the 328 isn't funny looking. It was as sexy as the A220 but two decades earlier.
Swisskommando@reddit (OP)
Oh don’t get me wrong I actually love it as I do all Dornier products. I think it is seen as a rather peculiar aircraft on the market though

This is a Do 28 A-1. Or possibly a B-1.
There is also the D model which is basically a different aeroplane.
They are both called Do 28 because....reasons....

If a high-wing twin is the thing you know you want, then to my non-engineering eye there's no better way of doing it.
It's a little surprising to me that nobody else has gone with this configuration.
