TX 5080 + Ryzen 9 9800X3D bottleneck in Cyberpunk 2077?

Hi, Spent \~2 hours today tweaking my setup because both my CPU & GPU were running too hot (to me) Now running: * RTX 5080 (UV 3000 MHz @ 975 mV) * Ryzen 9 9800X3D (Curve Optimizer –20, PPT 90W / TDC 65A / EDC 90A) * 64 GB DDR5-6000 CL30 ( [zentimings](https://prnt.sc/7F3lVC7_ISH2) ) In Cyberpunk 2077 (1440p Ultra, no RT): * GPU \~98% @ 2910 MHz, 272 W, 63 °C * CPU \~75% @ 4.6 GHz, 71 W, 67 °C * \~138 FPS With RT on, CPU drops to \~50–65% but GPU still doesn’t sit at 99–100% (more like 95–98%). Is this normal in Cyberpunk at 1440p, or am I hitting a CPU bottleneck with this setup?

9800x3d is the best gaming CPU on the market. It’s not “bottlenecking” anything Kind of rare for a GPU to just sit at 99%-100%. That’s not the definitive way to know everything is running fine. For it to sit above 95% is perfectly fine and you’re still getting the most out of your GPU. What was “too hot” for you? Was the GPU usage actually hitting 99-100 before your tweaks?

>What was “too hot” for you? Yes, GPU was easily hitting 70 °C and CPU around 70–80 °C. My room was getting toasty. I hadn’t checked before my tweaks, but I did check the FPS afterwards, I only lost 1–2 FPS on average (CB77 benchmark and BO6), with huge drops in temperature and power consumption (especially on the GPU)

Those temps are completely normal. 70c is pretty damn chill for a 5080, like the top 4 or 5 most powerful GPU lol Everything looks fine now. Nothing to worry about. If you wanted to see 99%-100% load all the time, you’d probably have to play 4k or something. As I think most people would agree a 5080 is a 4k capable GPU in terms of performance, despite the vram.

Ahaha, when I looked at other 5080 benchmarks, their temps were about 10°C lower than mine ( Gigabyte Gaming OC) , and I was wondering why. I don’t live in a very warm country (France), and my case is a 4000D. But I’m happy with it now, got lower temps, a cooler room, and a few extra FPS.

late reply but these are normal/good temps and cyberpunk is heavy on GPU. CPU here gives you very little advantage. You can only hurt performance if you limit CPU power. 9600x or 9800x3D performance difference will be nearly identical. Tweak GPU if anything. Play it with RT High at least but recommend using path tracing with 5080 during regular play through. enable Frame Gen x2 is usually the best quality. DLSS Auto.

First want to ask, did you mean Ryzen 7 9800X3D as there is no Ryzen 9, or do you have a Ryzen 9 CPU? Just curious is all. Second, having your settings and still achieving only 63C GPU and 67C CPU with higher than 100 FPS is well within safe limits of temps and have no concerns. The only real way to fix this would be to add more fans or lower your ambient room temp so I wouldn't worry its running too hot for your liking. Lastly, you seem to be getting the game to run at max settings with high FPS using high end equipment on a game that is notoriously used as a benchmark game for how demanding it is. I don't see this really as a bottleneck but more that you seemingly are trying to achieve something even better than the best it has to offer. Im not really sure exactly what more you want to achieve from here without getting a 5090 or dual 5090s with intent to run at max settings and achieve as close to 60fps at 4k as possible. I too am using a Ryzen 7 9800X3D with a 4080 at 1440p on max settings and still getting at least 65-90 fps consistently with some highs of 120fps with a 950mv at 2655mhz +500 GPU and unaltered CPU. All of which stays within 63-71C CPU and 67-69C GPU.

*Woops, my bad, I meant 7*. Before my tweaks the GPU was hitting 70 °C and the CPU 75–85 °C, my room was getting toasty so I wanted to cool things down a bit. From my testing I haven’t lost much in average FPS (like 1 or 2), but the GPU usage bothered me a bit.

Fan curves make a huge difference. I have corsair ICUE link fans and I tuned them to never go above 80% to get the most life out of them and created a positive air pressure. My curves on their highest settings are still near silent compared to Balanced Mode Preset in the ICUE software and offer nearly 20C temp difference.

Games do not use every thread and core. % usage of CPU is not accurate. With GPUs in 2077, if you use DLSS + FG + Ray Reconstruction it slightly reduces the load off the GPU from being 100+% and doesn't crank full maximum power 100% of the time.
