Just had an Italian Beef at Jimmy’s for the first time in ages.

I think they’ve somehow gotten better if that’s even possible. I miss their back room dining room, but if you’ve not had a sandwich there you gotta go try them.

Jimmy’s > non Chicago Portillo’s.
seriouslydh@reddit
Okay but as someone who isn’t near this jimmy’s but has a Portillo next to me. Should I try it? I’ve been tempted but I just get their hot dogs so far.

Jimmy's > Chicago portillos or Al's
TakeATrainOrBusFFS@reddit
I was just at Johnnie's a few weeks ago, so I think I have a good basis of comparison for Jimmy's. Al's is pretty good, too. I'm stoked to try it.
It's just been so hard for me to ever get anything other than the mufaletta at Jimmy's. 🤤
HoneyIShrunkMyNads@reddit
Oh Johnnie's is unreal, but I'm not huge into Als or portillos tbh

Any intel on where I can get a good Italian ice in Dallas? I mean Dallas Dallas. There's a pop-up at the state fair that I had a good one at last year, but their locations are all scattered in the suburbs, which I'm not gonna go drive out to.

Uncle Louie G's recently opened at Coit and Campbell! Tons of Italian ice and ice cream flavors. Lots have pieces of real fruit in them.

Awesome, thanks!

portifinos was so bad that i had to go to jimmys a few days later earlier this spring.
i had such high hopes. id give it a 1 of 1000 stars
Barfignugen@reddit
I don’t think anyone is arguing that
NTXStarsFan@reddit
Clearly triggered someone. Love getting downvoted for an opinion.
Barfignugen@reddit
I can’t tell if you’re implying that I’m the one who’s triggered or not, but I did not downvote you
NTXStarsFan@reddit
Nah not you, but someone.
Barfignugen@reddit
Word. Fuck em.

Love Jimmy’s
NintendogsWithGuns@reddit
It’s just Vienna Beef, which is the same Italian beef kit that every other sandwich shop uses. For me, what makes Jimmy’s unique is the meatball and sausage sandwiches. That actually make those from scratch.
DragonChowhound@reddit
Are they doing porchetta sandwiches still? I'm jonesing for one.
Love Jimmy's it's one of the highlights of any trip to Dallas.
liberal_texan@reddit (OP)
You could check their online menu, thats a sandwich I’ve not tried.
p8nt_junkie@reddit
I grew up on Jimmy’s. I miss the back dining room experience as well. For years I’ve been a Panino guy; calabrese, prosciutto, caprese. Convince me to try an Italian Beef, my man.
liberal_texan@reddit (OP)
Only try it if you like heat, it’s pretty spicy.
p8nt_junkie@reddit
Sold!
BabyBearMan@reddit
I didn't even know they did beefs. I usually just grab a Stallion and call it a weekend.
liberal_texan@reddit (OP)
I got the beef, my wife got the mortadella. We did get a 12” stallion as well though because it makes great leftovers.
DigDub@reddit
Just looked it up; kind’ve like a TX version of both a French dip and a Philly cheesesteak
liberal_texan@reddit (OP)
It originated in Chicago.
drexlortheterrrible@reddit
Is it Jimmy's Food Store?
liberal_texan@reddit (OP)
That’s the one.
savannah31401@reddit
I live a block away and my bank account feels the pain.
subhawk737@reddit
I love Jimmy's, and I live 1.5 miles away. But, I will have to say, TJ's Dawg House food truck has THE best italian beef sandwich in town. Hard for me to get there because it is so far out of my way, but DAMN, just had one last week and it was SOOOO good. Don't knock it if you haven't tried it.
Live_Bit_7000@reddit
Is it genuine Italian?
LotusTheCozyWitch@reddit
Jimmy’s is the real deal (I speak as a Chicago-born and raised I-talian). Jimmy’s is freaking awesome.
liberal_texan@reddit (OP)
About as close as you’ll get in Dallas I’d say.
Ok_Weight2463@reddit
What happened to their back room dining room? I loved walking through their kitchen to go back there for a seating spot.
mike_lowrey214@reddit
It's been closed since COVID and is mostly just storage now.
ScarHand69@reddit
I always felt like that had to violate some kind of health code. You literally have to walk through the kitchen to get back there.
It was cool and a nice place to sit down and eat and I miss it. Yet another victim of COVID.
ty944@reddit
Buca Di Beppo used to have a table in the kitchen area which was really cool. No clue if they still do haven’t been there since before Covid.
Doyometer@reddit
Jimmy’s is the best
Jkimdallas@reddit
Love Jimmys! Was there today as well

100% agree with with you.
