Continued my exploration of america’s DMUs

While much less frequent than I’d like and should operate on sundays and holidays, it definitely is an unexpectedly useful and plucky little regional rail system with excellent operators. 8/10 would consider living in Denton.

Denton is truly wonderful

How much time does it take to get from Denton to the downtown transit mall in Dallas? Assuming rush hour frequencies and trains running on time?

The train doesn’t go to Denton

The A-train was built on the cheap. It's slow, but they are doing some infrastructure upgrades to massively speed it up.
It's not nearly as fast as DART trains though

More cities need to take a page out of the Dallas metro book and make these diesel interurbans. You can have half hourly frequency (which is solid for rail) along routes for a fraction of the cost of other rail transit and in many cases, way cheaper than widening highways. Maybe if we really emphasize that these trains are diesel powered, it would get republicans more on board with it lol.

A hair under two hours. But I imagine this is more for people living in northern neighborhoods of Dallas and needing to commute to Denton, or for people living in southern suburbs of Denton just out of light rail territory and needing to commute to Dallas, in addition to people making the whole trip on a weekend or for non-commute purposes.

This should also become quicker in the future as much of the slowness is the A-Train which is planned to get upgrades to increase speed. Green line to Carrollton from downtown is pretty quick

I believe A-Train also plans to eventually expand to Downtown Carrollton Station, allowing easy connection to the new Silver Line.

That is correct, according to the conductor I spoke with.

A TRAIN BABY love this guy I lived in NW Dallas and this got me to my final two semesters at UNT. Clean and on time. Only wish it ran more.

I do love me the A-Train.
If they can build dual rail lines from Denton to Carrollton, and finally get freight off the line, the line would be booming.
I love the 30 minute frequencies, but I wish DART and DCTA would align their schedules better. No reason why the Green Line can’t arrive within/after 5 minutes an A-Train departure and vice-versa.

I rode the bus from Royal Lane to Addison for a few months. I went back to driving when I missed my connection. The busses don't wait for each other at stops where 2 lines meet. If that was your bus, then you're left waiting however long for the next bus. Really frustrating.

FYI DCTA is starting preliminary design for 15-minute headways in the A-Train and an extension to a new Downtown Carrollton station to connect with the Silver Line!
Source: I went to the public August DCTA Board Meeting (also l'm an engineer working on said projects)
