What to do while I wait this out

Hey guys, been living in Dallas 5 years now and my now cheating ex and me have to live together while we sort things out. No matter how much space we give each other he makes me feel like the most unwanted person and I need to find somewhere to go. I’m working toward my BA in environmental sciences and I love to read but sick of going to bars. Could anybody give a good suggestion on places to go at night just so I can breathe a little and enjoy life? Outdoor areas are always welcome ideas

Friends that are worth having will offer up their homes to chill and stay as much as you needed. You may think you're imposing but there are people that genuinely feel better by the act of helping someone that needs it. Hopefully you have those people in your life.
In terms of places to spend a few hours, personally, I enjoy the Dallas Arboretum. A lot of areas to walk and enjoy nature for a while.
If there's anyone family/friends out of town where you can visit, maybe now is the good time to plan to just get away.
But ultimately, you may just feel like a visitor and "unhomed" until you can resolve your living situation.
I'm assuming that the reason why you're stuck "together" is that both of you are on a lease or property and can't terminate and can't afford to just drop it. This hanging over you is crippling, so if there is any way you can find to get out of this situation.... either you or he leaves with something of an equitable financial separation, that would make the most gains in this situation. Otherwise, it'll just hang over you and that's just hard to compartmentalize. Depending on the situation, you may just have to walk away for your own sanity. And if you can try and explain the best you can on the necessity of what it is. People will ultimately choose their money, but you never ask, you may never get.

If you have any interest in building/crafting things and you're willing to drive, the Rockwall Makerspace is open 24/7 to members. There's another in Carrollton and another in Richardson, but idk what the others for those are. There's some good community in the makerspaces, and it could be a good opportunity to pick up a new skill! The Rockwall location has classes that are free and open to the public

Love all the suggestions guys! I think I’ll definitely have things to do to keep me away while I get through this. For those of you messaging me to go out with you, please stop. I got cheated on and am not really wanting to date anyone rn or be taken out by any guys atm

I’m sorry there are guys being creeps. Yuuuuck. Honestly there is something really nice about being single and doing your own thing once you get over the initial grief. I hope you can get a place for yourself soon and build a lil singledom nest!
Texippi@reddit
What part of the city are you in? I’d hate to make suggestions for things that are on the other side of town from where you are. I know we all try to drive as little as possible in Dallas.

Near the Knox st Henderson area
TheBungoStrays@reddit
I was gonna suggest Prather Park but I'm sure you're already familiar with it if you are so close. That park is GORGEOUS!
Texippi@reddit
Have you ever been to Wild Detectives book store in Bishop Arts? Super cool place and comfortable to read in. Lots of cools restaurants and bars in walking distance.
Less-Ad3293@reddit (OP)
I’ll check it out! That sounds cool
DreadLordNate@reddit
Was just there for a badass book event (Someday The Adults Will Die) so yeah - Wild Detectives is awesome.
smolkeht@reddit
Yeah, came to rec this spot! If you're a bookish bean, it's a great spot! Good drinks and a cool collection of books for sale. They do events now and then, too. Check out the board inside with event advertisements in the area, too!
JZenoftheSkies@reddit
I second this!

Talk to your leasing manager and see if you can work something out to end or transfer the lease. They may offer something that can work out financially for you to get away from this toad.

Yeah, in theory. In reality no fucking way

When I was single, I spent a lot of time reading in public places -- Starbucks, the library, bars, cafes, outdoor parks (maybe not for another few weeks, lol). If you are remotely interested in physical activities, join a gym or a rec league? I am not a real sports-type person, but I joined a sand volleyball league and played consistently at least one night a week.

I know you said you’re tired of bars. But, try Wild Detectives in Bishop Arts. Or take a backpack with your study materials to the zoo.

I used to have a coworking desk for under $200/month at spaces in deep Ellum. You have 24 hour access to the building and they have a great common area for reading. They also have a gym that’s not 24 hours, but nice and a rooftop patio also not 24 hours.
No-Rule-5631@reddit
You can always go to coffee shops
Rosie_Raccoon@reddit
The McKinney/Olive Bldg has a fun outdoor area with tables and chairs. There are restaurants and a Starbucks so people are around but it wasn’t annoying. Or Klyde Warren is good people watching.

Just recently discovered this place, as it’s really close to my house. Started reading up on their website and it sounds like such a cool spot! I’m excited to check it out. I’m hoping to find some sort of community within it. It seems like the type of place you could.
FluidFisherman6843@reddit
You definitely get out of it what you put in. If you want a quiet place to work on stuff and be left alone, you can do that and people will respect your space
If you want to be part of more of a group learning club, you can do that.
If you want to share your hobbies and passions with people, you can teach classes and do that as well.

The Arboretum has a pretty inexpensive annual membership and tables and benches everywhere! Plus rotating flowers!
Snorlax972@reddit
If your anywhere near Coppell try The Sound at Cypress Waters, they have a trail that is open 24/7 and benches and sitting spots that are lit up all night. Security is pretty good as the have armed patrol guards in the area.
I fish there at night sometimes and its peaceful and don't have to deal with pitch darkness with all the lit up businesses and parking lots.
My tips are if you go at night wear mosquito repellant and if you want to read bring a head lamp.

Your neighborhood rec center, mine has the workout equipment, gym sports, running track, pool, aerobic classes, art classes, pool tables, racket ball courts, ping pong tables, reading nooks, sitting tables and chairs you’ll ever need. It’s a safe environment that opens very early and only cost $250 a year for a family of four. My teen daughter and her friends even hang out there when school lets out early on Fridays because it’s safer and entertains them. It even has an esports center for gamers.

The Half-Priced Books flagship store is pretty cool. They don't care if you sit around reading old books and have a little coffee shop/cafe spot in there

You didn't give an age, but I enjoyed going to rock climbing gyms in my 20s. Always people to meet and talk to that enjoy adventurous stuff and don't have their heads buried in their phones.
live2lov3@reddit
Definitely. I’ve been to my local climbing gym a few times this year and was surprised to find how friendly everyone was and how refreshing it felt to be around people who didn’t have their eyes glued to their phones. Just being in that environment was enough to boost your mood.
lost_in_trepidation@reddit
Not an outdoor area but I sometimes see movies to blow off steam at night.
A 9/10 pm movie can get you out late enough to just go to bed after.

Dallas museum of art and Arboretum are really nice places to hang out
JZenoftheSkies@reddit
Abbott Park behind the Katy Trail is solid. The Arboretum has a ton of green spaces and benches nestled amongst trees and flowers. Also a great open green space to bring a blanket and picnic stuff with a view of White Rock Lake (lol I know it's not much of a view but hey were in Dallas). Not sure how long they stay open though so might not be the best night option.
Funny Library Coffee Shop in the Virgin Hotel has lots of nooks and tables to read, study or just chill. If you feel the itch to go into the bar, it's right around the corner. They do have a nice patio as well that wraps around the outside of the building.
Rodeo Goat close by the Virgin has a solid patio, and you can always hit the Trinity Strand Trail to connect with the Katy Trail.
SMU is great too through the middle of campus. Safe at night as well. Unless you are already a student there and you want to be away from campus.

Join meetup.com . They have events you can go to and meet strangers. Even single mingling events
vinhluanluu@reddit
I’ve been spending time at FreePlay and Cidercade playing pinball. There are a few groups / communities around that is good for socializing too.
reddit_still_psyop@reddit
walk around the village lmao they got parks in the middle good for late night
Less-Ad3293@reddit (OP)
Tysm! That’s right up my alley of interests, I will definitely check that out
Rockabelle42-@reddit
There’s a book club that meets up at the half price books off of Northwest in their meetup space every third Sunday from like 1-3pm I think? It’s one of the things my dad does but I love that half price and maybe see if they’re doing any other kind of events/meetups/etc. they also have a cafe which is a nice place to hang out
NieBer2020@reddit
They close at 10PM as well. It's not open too late, but a good place to start.
