Can I put a 225/60 r 17 tire on a car that takes 235/65 r 16? Both have 5 bolts..

I have a long drive to do in the middle of the night, alone. Would it be better to leave on the doughnut or can I put 1 or even up to 3 of these other tires on?? Google is giving me mixed answers..

If the bolt pattern is the same, and if it doesn’t hit your brake caliper, then technically yes…. But that’s a much smaller tire. Probably not a good idea.

Putting 17” tires on a 16” wheel is easy. Getting the bead to seat? That’s the hard part.

I use this site to see what fits. If you’re not sure on the offset, can just leave it 0 for both tire sizes.

Dude one tire is 16” the other is 17”. Its not gonna work, no calculator needed
FreshPrinceOfH@reddit
You can drive with 16" on one axle and 17" on the other with no damage or ill effect whatsoever as long as the total circumference is the same.
Madmike530@reddit
Might get away with it if you have a front wheel drive and put it on the rear. Too much difference in diameter will work the differential hard (front or rear)and it’ll make the drive miserable if you put it on the front

A 17” tire wont go on a 16” wheel
FreshPrinceOfH@reddit
OP is obviously based on their post saying that both tyres are fitted to rims.
ThePurch@reddit
“Both have 5 bolts” suggests they have 2 complete wheels, so they’re should be if the bolt pattern matches and no clearance issues.

Depends, need more information. What year, make, and model?
Dinglebutterball@reddit
There are many different 5 bolt pattern sizes and center register sizes. Some index on the lug nuts, some index on the register.
It’s not just 5 is 5.

Unless you’re mistyping, no you cannot. You can increase or decrease everything to a degree but the r value without changing wheels. R17 is a 17 inch wheel, R16 is a 16 inch. The tire will fall off the wheel
ApartmentKindly4352@reddit
The way OP worded it is funny but I think hes saying hes got a 16 mounted on a 5 lug wheel, and a 17 mounted on a 5 lug wheel...OP wants to swap over wheels and tires....I think....
ThePurch@reddit
This is definitely what OP is saying, they just don’t know the difference between a tire and a wheel/rim.
EffectiveRelief9904@reddit
Yes, but only if you do all 4. It’s fine if it’s temporarily your spare but you want them all to match

NO, you have 17" wheels and you want to put on 16" tires. Does that make sense to you? And the 5 bolt pattern doesn't even matter when your talking tires, NOT wheels. Maybe your confused? I'm thinking your trying to get the cheapest price? Stay with the correct size
CantfigureoutName99@reddit
If you have all wheel drive, mismatched tires will cause a lot of damage to your clutches.
SnooMacarons3689@reddit
Look at the back of the “wheels”. Each set and find the stamped numbers like 5x114.3 or whatever number follows the five. If the replacement doesn’t match the take off you cannot at all. If it does then yes
