Destiny!!! It's the first real exploration through flashbacks into Xena's history, WHY she became so angry and deadly (Caesar's betrayal) and really, that betrayal by Caesar figures prominently in so much of the rest of the series, eg. The Rift.
Yes, Callisto's revenge/hatred is an important storyline and happened because of a horrible moment in Xena's warlording days, but what happened with Caesar underpins so much more of the woman she became and the challenges she met.......even more so than Ares' temptations I believe.

Totally agree with you, I’m voting for that next I chose “A Necessary Evil” because I feel it gives closure sort of to the entire Callisto storyline, even though she comes back in the Hope arc, the episode ends with Gabrielle saying “I forgive you Callisto” which I know is a HUGE thing for her to say, and actually mean it
AuntyEmfromOz@reddit
I don't see it as giving Callisto any sort of closure. She's there because Xena wanted someone immortal - it doesn't really have anything to do with her own storyline. In Hercules' Armageddon Now episodes, she also features and gets to go back and change things, but that doesn't turn out thanks to Iolaus. Then she's sort of a sidekick for Hope in Maternal Instincts then Sacrifice. In Ides of March, Caesar is the main bad guy. It' s not until Fallen Angel her story is complete.
Now having said that, Callisto is a great character and any episodes she was in are always better for her presence, but there's more to the XWP tv series than Callisto. And I was hoping this countdown of the top five each season would acknowledge that.........but then again, she IS popular and these ARE most popular episode votes so............

A Necessary Evil.
P.S. I’m a bit surprised not to see The Quest being championed by many.
Latte-Catte@reddit (OP)
The Quest is a great episode but Xena was also dead the entire time. And the only reason why it's such a great episode is because we look at it as a trilogy or even a two-parter, with Destiny and Necessary Evil carrying it. The Autolycus fill in for Xena was pretty good, but it's obvious that it was a last second script edit.
If the kiss was cut away, I think it'd absolutely deserve the top 5 spot. The whole world would've gone crazy.

The quest is important but it's because of one scene. I am trying to choose episodes that are good as a whole.
Pop_Stensbold@reddit
The Quest would be in my top 5 for sure.
Bookbringer@reddit
How is this a debate? A Necessary Evil should already be up there.

Destiny :)
Pop_Stensbold@reddit
well A Necessary Evil was my no.1 of Season 2 and really should be on there. So I'll throw in another vote for it. (After that on my actual top 5 would be Lost Mariner and The Xena Scrolls. Return of Callisto would be next but that's already on there).

The Price
IseQween@reddit
I have to go with THE PRICE as well. I think it's one of the best written, executed eps in terms of both on-going themes and character development. It highlights the differences between and conflicts within both Xena and Gabs under stress. We see Xena's cold, calculating side surface as integral to her strategy, not momentary response to Ares-inspired rage as in RECKONING or TIES. Gabs seriously questions the WP's decisions in a battle scenario, risking her life and defying Xena's "orders" to follow her own ideals. The two overcome and use their polar-opposite views to resolve the situation with the least blood shed.
AuntyEmfromOz@reddit
This episode was a real eye-opener for Gabrielle and the first time, really, that Gabby saw Xena for who she really was, or had been, and how easily it was for her to slip back into that person. Yes, there'd been hints in Reckoning and Ties, but The Price was her own choices (not Ares influenced as you said) and showed how hard she had been as a warlord and, let's be honest, how scared Xena was, having faced the Horde in the past with some of her army.
