Why is it so damn hard to watch this show?

I’m 22 so I didn’t really grow up with Beavis and Butthead, but I always loved the movie. Recently, my buddy and I started watching it on Paramount+ for the first time only to discover like half of the show is missing. I bought the ultimate collection dvd and even that set is missing a bunch of stuff. Why are there so many lost or banned episodes?
Major_Army2594@reddit
Wco has most of them
DajuKnifedu@reddit
I watch Beavis and butthead on watch cartoons online, the wco website has tons of cartoons and whatnot to watch. The heart attack episode was funny.

A few reasons.
The show was subject to intense censorship during its early seasons and because of that several master tapes were lost making it nigh on impossible to find those episodes unedited unless someone recorded it on VHS.
Mike Judge doesn't particaruly like a lot of early episodes because of how bad the animation and plotting is and witholds them from collections.
And most importantly every episode has licensed music videos and because of that you are unlikely to ever see those segments on video or streaming unless the rights were cleared.
Its best to download the King Turd collection if you want the whole show its the best (and only) way you will ever get to see the whole series

And on top of that, the characters were frequently insultingly critical of the music videos. I doubt many of the criticized artist would give permission now.

I'm old enough to have watched B&B when it first aired. If B&B liked a song/video, it would take off. And if they hated it well....I wonder how many careers they ruined.
I always thought Mike Judge could have made a MINT basically telling bands "See, I have this show. And we can make your band/video or we can destroy it. Here is my price list."

Imo it adds historical value.
AwkwardTraffic@reddit
I agree but Mike Judge feels differently lol

A ton of creators often hate earlier work. James Cameron has been fighting tooth and nail to make Aliens look like a newer movie like Avatar.
blasto2236@reddit
Even the South Park guys, who went hard on Lucas and Spielberg for messing with their classics, have said they really don't like the first few seasons of the show, and would like to fix/color correct the animation in the movie. In the movie commentary they said they won't because they'd be massive hypocrites, but the temptation is there and so they kind of understand where those other guys are coming from now.

A lot of what people have issues with is when the original is not made available. Like with Star Wars. Spielberg realized he fucked up when he changed the guns to walkie talkies in ET, and the theatrical version is what's available on Blu-ray and 4K.
BojukaBob@reddit
Yeah, it pains me that since I lost my old VHS copies (and don't even have a VHS player anymore) I'll never get my jubjub song version of Return of the Jedi again. I hate the changes in the "special editions" so badly.
AmputeeHandModel@reddit
Is he gonna Lucas it?
Wild_Chef6597@reddit
He's been lucassing it since the 90s
UGLY-FLOWERS@reddit
it's inspiring too, honestly. like anyone could do it

Thank you! This was very helpful. I know about the fire controversy but I didn’t know Judge himself hates a lot of earlier episodes. The music rights issue definitely makes sense, but it’s genuinely sad a lot of these episodes weren’t preserved. I’ll have to check out the Turd collection

I've directly compared versions on Paramount with the existing versions floating around and there is a lot either edited or with different music. Especially, early episodes.
boognish1984@reddit
And where would a connoisseur find such a collection?
AmputeeHandModel@reddit
Sailing the high seas, there are DVD collections you can buy. Search this sub for King Turd.

King Turd is the shit.
beavis93@reddit
It’s nostalgia show. It’s from the 80s the MTV era. Other than nostalgia it hasn’t aged well.
xLennny@reddit
Some little kid burned his house down in the 90s and they blamed it on B&B because he was watching it when he did it cuz beavis loves fire ya know. The parent shouldn't have let a little kid watch it anyway and they blame it on the tv 🤦🏻♂️
zorgareddit@reddit
Beavis and Butthead was never for kids. The show was made for teens and young adults
reignmatter@reddit
They didn’t have cable, and the kid later admitted he hadn’t seen it.
It was just a Karen doing Karen shit.
Bloodsnowcones@reddit
8 remember it came out that they didn't even have cable so it was impossible for the kid to have been watchinv
Royal_IDunno@reddit
Yep, gotta water things down because parents are too lazy to parent their own children.
Die_Screaming_@reddit
maybe the parents shouldn’t have let their little kid watch it, but holy fuck am i glad my parents didn’t give a shit what i was watching in the early 90s.
xLennny@reddit
Yeah me too I got to watch everything. and by little kid were talking like a 6 or 7 year old hahaha or younger I can't remember but yeah I miss old tv before they started censoring everything. Thought we had free speech lol. I hate that they blamed B&B for that and I hate that they blamed GTA vice city for crime. Like hey guess what before this video game people were picking up hookers and stealing cars hahaha
danesete@reddit
I don’t know which episodes are missing, but I found the old ones on Pirate Bay. I can’t say if all the episodes are there, but it does have all the seasons.
younglegends111@reddit
petition to start beavis and butthead streaming service starts here!
Appropriate_Ad566@reddit
Still my favorite episode is when they go to Mexico for fireworks.
Royal_IDunno@reddit
That episode is top notch!
Royal_IDunno@reddit
Beavis and Butthead isn’t what it used to be thanks to censorship so because of that it ain’t entertaining to watch, but the old episodes from the 90s is entertaining to watch.
ChubbyStoner42@reddit
I was in high school when B&BH was on MTV. I watched one of the early episodes when it came to Paramount+ and immediately felt that I should be doing homework.
No-Mission9167@reddit
Woke audiences don't like them putting on funny accents. You'll notice they never do that in the new series.
capnlatenight@reddit
Yep, it was the funny accents.
Not the arson, heckling teachers, huffing, objectifying women, sugar rushes, casual violence between themselves, desire to find beer, and overconsumption of media.
The "woke" audience doesn't like them putting on funny accents, what other explanation could there be?
jarviskokar@reddit
Beer is cool! Ugh huh huh huh huh!
Johnnnythehobo@reddit
I wish I could upvote you twice
Gecko99@reddit
Beavis just did an Irish accent.
linkerjpatrick@reddit
In the begging Mike Said he wanted the animation to look like it was being done or drawn by someone like Beavis and Butthead but then again he also admitted his animation style was crude so…. I am fine with the sharpness and clean colors. However it his funny or odd how they look totally different than everyone else in the show. Like they are hybrid alien experiments of course that would explain a lot
hillbillygaragepop@reddit
Who is Mike Said and why was he begging?
Belle_19@reddit
Mainly a combination of degradation of the original material, mike judge not caring for early episodes anyway and copyrighted music videos
The only real way to watch them in their entirety afaik is to pirate a king turd collection. Ive heard physical sets are missing stuff
Delicious_Reading165@reddit
are you watching the new format? I personally dont like it myself having grown up with the old format. For me the new one has ruined it. I perfered the old style
newcomerz@reddit
You said HARD, uhuhuhuhuh.
slippin_jimmy791@reddit
I’m pretty sure there’s something called the king turd collection it got like all the episodes
Independent-Data4542@reddit
On Internet Archive for free too, give it a goog
tron2540@reddit
The one on Internet Archive has barely any episodes. It’s mostly just the movie, album and some specials
Sterling0393@reddit
The one I looked at had tons of episodes!
Affable_Refrigerator@reddit
That would be cool.
doradus1994@reddit
Fire bad.
Nobody wants to pay to use the music videos.
itsboring57@reddit
Just grab a torrent, there are multiple collections.
