BlueTube: Twitch for cops

All cops should livestream their shifts, and their pay should depend on ratings + tips.
How it might work:
Two Pay Pools:
-
Base Pay Pool: Every cop still gets a guaranteed low base salary (like servers).
-
Engagement Pool: The rest of their normal salary goes here. If they get average ratings and positive engagement, they make about the same as they normally would today.
Bonus Pool: This combines two things: -Any leftover funds from “bad cops” who didn’t earn their full engagement payout. -Existing funds normally earmarked for raises, bonuses, or overtime. Officers with above average ratings get a cut from this pool.
Overtime Multiplier: If an officer is working overtime, their engagement score gets a slight multiplier, so they’re rewarded fairly for extra hours.
Tips: Viewers get a limited number of tips they can give each day. These tips don’t come from their own money. They come out of the bonus pool.
Good cops get paid more.
Bad cops lose out.
Everyone’s performance is transparent because the whole job is livestreamed.
Obviously there would need to be tweaks and algorithms to keep it fair. Some officers will naturally get more viewers just because they’re more entertaining to watch, while others may work less “engaging” assignments. Those cases would need adjustments so boring but necessary jobs don’t unfairly lower someone’s pay. And this wouldn’t have to be 24/7. Just when they’re actively on patrol or in the field.
Just needs a better name and some adjustments.
I got the idea after seeing a clip on here from a police departments Tiktok account.

I don't think their pay should be based on popularity, law enforcement will never be a job that should be influenced by popularity, only the letter of the law and the well being of the people present, but fully public access body cams, including full archive, sounds good to me.

This would 100% result in bad cops making more money because people want to see action.

Nah....Anytime a cop starts whipping on a type of person some group hates they will be flooded with tips. You are forgetting that not everyone hates cops. This wont work like ypu think it will. Would be awesome to watch, though. I say do the show, but scrap the tipping idea, that would be terrible, real quick.
lukewarmhotdogw4ter@reddit
You know that this would create a system where cops act outrageously and do horrible things to people to generate more views, right? People are bad and they would reward bad cops for doing bad things.
Good policing is boring.
This is a truly terrible idea.

We already have bodycam video channels. 🤷♂️

You would end up with two competing groups of viewers. The people who blindly support the blue line gang and reward cops who are out there violating rights and beating people up/arresting over very minor offenses in the name of "public/officer safety"
And another group that i feal would be significantly smaller unfortunately the type of people in this sub. The ones who are actually trying to keep cops in line and accountable.
The first group would probably dwarf the second, and cops would become less accountable because they'd be rewarded for what i would call bad behavior/lazy policing.
In theory it's a great idea if the majority of the country wasn't brainwashed and could think critically for themselves. But that's not the country/world we live in.

The monkey’s paw of this is that cops that pull their guns more and kill more people will also end up pulling more views because folks like watching clips of that kind of stuff.

4chan seeing this

Way too easy for hate groups to exploit the system. Justice would devolve to a literal, publicly viewed, real time application of "Who has the most money"
viziroth@reddit
there's a group of people that would both be very interested in watching this and very much in favor of supporting the worst broadcasters which would lead to a feedback loop of broadcasters being blatantly worse than each other to try and capture that group of support
also you might not get a lot of feedback on this topic because automod flagging

this was like my 4th time rewording this comment...

One of the biggest problems with this is that victims would have to tell their stories on live streams. Which is fine when it's a store owner describing a shoplifting event but absolutely not okay for victims of other crimes, such as sexual assault.
Niche_Expose9421@reddit
This is true. They'd have to at least blur them and censor any personal information...maybe even alter the voice

ACAB = all cops are broadcasting

The issue would be the equivalent of swatting, where you have people targeting certain police officers because they're livestreaming. But, I do think it would be good to have live bodycam footage, for security purposes.

Made not live then. Either delayed or when they are done.

Okay so I liked the idea but I'm confused on:
Do the viewers of the cop with lower ratings then have fewer tips they can give out? Or else couldn't everyone hit the max even if they aren't above average?
ICPsimp@reddit (OP)
So if your question is just about the tips, basically every viewer gets a set amount each day, say like $10 in tip credits. You can give it all to one cop if you think they’re doing great, or split it up across a few cops you think deserve it. It’s just about how you choose to spread your daily allotment.
On top of that, overall engagement (good vs bad ratings) balances things out. Even if some officers don’t get tons of viewers, if their good-to-bad ratio is around average, they’ll still land in the normal payout range. If they’re way above average in positive engagement, they’d pull more from the pool.
Still not 100% sure. Hahaha Just a quick thought about a system like this.
Another thought I just had would be a highlight reel section, where clips of certain engagements can be saved, so viewers can get an overview of how the cop performs, good or bad. That could add to the engagement and encourage more tips or not.
