Help me understand Xena fans

Hi, I’m Mel Stanfill. I am a scholar at the University of Central Florida whose research focuses on fan studies, and as we reach the 30th anniversary of Xena I want to understand the show’s fans: when and how you became a fan, your fan activities, your opinion about the fandom, and the relationship of the fandom to the makers of the show.

that was my PhD student. she had to list me in the materials as her adviser in case somebody wants to complain (per university rules), but it's her project.

I see. So what's going on, did you assign your class to study shows with fandoms?

what she's doing is her dissertation project, which is part of getting her PhD. it's a big year-long research project that results in a book. it's just a coincidence that the new Superman movie that was her study object and the 30th anniversary of Xena that was what i wanted to look at were around the same time.

Xena, yes. i watched it almost from the pilot and was on all the old Geocities cites back in the day. and i just thought it's a shame that after all this time, with the fandom still active, there's still no academic book about Xena fandom. so this survey is part of that bigger project.
