Spotted outside of Roche Harbor, San Juan Islands

That's a blue water vagabond it's my favourite modern yacht
RollAdministrative67@reddit
Modern??
jonathanrdt@reddit
They are becoming rare, and when you can find them, they need so much love. Their engines are usually approaching eol, and they cannot be easily replaced. Original electric was not tinned. Chain plates are difficult to access/inspect/replace. They usually leak at deck fittings: owners call them 'leaky teakies'.

Good to know, thank you š

Once in a while, you can find a good one. Black Pearl was for sale on the great lakes for like $160k few years back. Not sure what she actually sold for (probly $135-145k). The fellow who redid her was pretty incredible, and she was perfect. But $150k for a forty+ year old boat is a hard sell for most and a difficult thing to insure.
BattleIntrepid3476@reddit (OP)
Why is it hard to insure? āReplacement value of the boatā times āprobability itās going to breakā?
Cambren1@reddit
Also, a lot of the interior wood was not marine grade and has to be replaced.
K_rey@reddit
I wonder if this one was once a ketch

Due-Pear-8687@reddit
Think ur right. The mast is Pretty far fwd
Venture419@reddit
I think you are right. Seems they also rigged running backstays without the aft mast? The helm must be hard to balance with the sails so far forward and no aft sail area.
DetroiterInTX@reddit
Yep! You can also see the chain plates, for the mizzen shrouds, in the hull.
VerStannen@reddit
Yeah the main looks a tad too forward.
Full-Photo5829@reddit
Yeah, but it's got a "perma-project trapped in yard" quotient of 75 and a "bottomless pit" factor of 92 š
VerStannen@reddit
Now those stats mean something š
kingsam53@reddit
I have seen as ketchs and one was a gaff rigger
BattleIntrepid3476@reddit (OP)
I think youāre right!!
BreakfastLopsided906@reddit
Whatās something like this cost?
I know bugger all about buying, but it looks beautiful.
captainseattle@reddit
Wait till you see an ultra modern yacht; like something from the 1980ās.
kingsam53@reddit
Well to me pretty much everything with a fiberglass hull is modern I sail a boat from the 1880s
throwawayPzaFm@reddit
That sounds cool, we'd love some pics
BattleIntrepid3476@reddit (OP)
Iām with you, itās incredible!!
Civil-Boysenberry315@reddit
A beautiful one
differentworld80@reddit
Almost certain this beautiful boat was moored at Pleasant Harbor in the 90s. Was the name Butterfly? I always wondered where she went. If the same one, happy to see still in great shape.
BattleIntrepid3476@reddit (OP)
I couldnāt make out a name, but she was stunning!
differentworld80@reddit
I remember the owners planned to travel the world. The husband was super friendly and knowledgeable. The wife seemed to really enjoy being the big boat in the yard. Talked a big game. They left and were never seen again. Last I heard, she walked off in Portland and refused to get back aboard. The ocean and all its glory scared her out of boating.
BattleIntrepid3476@reddit (OP)
Thatās hilarious! And probably fairly common ā talking the big game and jumping off the boat somewhereā¦
Great-Cabinet-5142@reddit
Pretty one.

knows this kind of boats as a GULET, very common on Turkey shipyards
RobbinMBanks@reddit
Under sail, Iāve heard it can approach 4 knts. I know you might think that Iām inflating that number but thatās what Iāve heard. Astonishing!
velvethammer125@reddit
Itās a 4ksb
malaqias@reddit
Looks like a sailboat to me
ez_as_31416@reddit
Easy on the eyes, hard on the pocketbook.
No_Pain5736@reddit
I believe a vagabond 47 with the mizzen removed, pretty neat little boat.
spinozasrobot@reddit
Wow, I wouldn't have noticed until I read this. And looking at it now, that explains why the main is a little more forward than you'd expect to be balanced.
tom_m_ryan@reddit
I think it's a sailboat.
Sock_Eating_Golden@reddit
IT'S A SCHOONER!

I came here to say this. I don't know why you are getting downvoted.

My parents had a Force 50, we lived on it for four years when I was a teenager. Pretty similar to a vagabond 47, same designer I believe.
