ULPT Request: Used up a $25 Visa Debit Gift Card. Threw it away. A return of an item put $25 BACK onto the card. I know the card # and the exp but NOT the CVV on the back. How can I use it (online?) without knowing the CVV?

Only 999 combinations, and I bet it’s not 000 so that makes it 998 combos, you can delete a few more I bet, like 111 and 222

It can be any of those, it's random

Are you sure? /s

My water company only requires number and date, no CVV required. You may be able to find a random bill or something you can pay with it.

Nice - this is good also
AproposofNothing35@reddit
Maybe Walmart still has it saved in your profile. Might be able to get another thing from Walmart.

Amazon usually doesn't ask for CVV?
dogfur@reddit (OP)
Truth! Just tried it and you’re right!
ricecrispycat@reddit
Yeah I just used Amazon without needing my cvv, I thought it was odd but check there
dogfur@reddit (OP)
Great catch! I agree - I just added it there! No cvv!

The hospitals here use mychart/epic and they do not require the ccv for online payments (i leave it blank and it doesn’t ask)

Call the card company - vanilla or whatever. Explain the situation. Ask them nicely to waive the replacement fee. Get a new card.
Sum-Duud@reddit
If you can detail the specific charges then they may help you. If you can’t then they’ll assume you took a picture of someone’s GC and are trying to steal it.
theepi_pillodu@reddit
OP said they used it at Walmart. Hopefully that helps.
Sum-Duud@reddit
Yep, but given the sub we are in, someone taking a picture of a card someone used at Walmart wouldn’t be a crazy assumption.

Can you take the receipt back to Walmart, talk to a manager and ask to void the transaction and reissue in the form of a Walmart gift card?
The leadership at one of my previous big box retail stores have successfully done this before. It’s worth a shot to ask, worst thing is they say no.
Something_McGee@reddit
You're best bet is to call the card company. Offer to show them the receipt.
Or return to Walmart and explain the situation. See if they'll let you make an in-store purchase or sth.
There's no easy or legal way to find the CVV code. If there were, nobody would be buying gift cards anymore bc thieves could easily use up all the money without getting caught.

The $25 is gone. Not worth chasing.
