When did Lucky Charms marshmallows change?

We were looking to grab some cereal and were like "Haven't had this in decades! Grab it!" It still tastes the same from what I remember, but I laughed at all of the different marshmallows.
I mean, I remember back when it was still only "Pink Hearts, Yellow Moons, Orange Stars, and Green Clovers" and when they introduced "And Blue Diamonds!"
I don't actually give a shit that they changed, nor is it a "Ours weren't good enough for today's kids?" I just thought it was interesting (for some really lame definition of "interesting"). Like, would sales drops need to be reinvigorated and solved by changing the color and shapes? 🤣

They have been constantly changing. There seemed to be new shapes all the time.
meatcrafted@reddit
They kept adding new shapes in a desperate bid for attention.

not enough tv for you! horseshoes were somewhere in the 90s. i don't remember the order of unicorn and balloon. i think it was then rainbow and pot of gold together?
Gullible-Apricot3379@reddit
The red balloon was next after the purple horse shoes. And a magic unicorn. I didn’t realize there was a rainbow and pot of gold now…

I think it is actually possible to tell the approximate age of someone by asking them what is in lucky charms.
“New blue diamonds” like born 68-72
8Deer-JaguarClaw@reddit
Probably so.
Born 76 and I do not remember the introduction of Blue Diamonds. But I distinctly remember the roll out of Purple Horseshoes.

The last flavor is "new blue diamonds" when reciting the magically delicious flavors. My little sister told me there are purple horse shoes, but I still don't believe her.

I was the fifth kid so by the it got to me there wasn’t anything left but chalk dust

I still remember the introduction of the purple horseshoes. But the unicorn is a new one to me
FartomicMeltdown@reddit
Purple horseshoes were my jam.
Shopworn_Soul@reddit
I remember the purple horseshoes as well, and from when my kid was into them I remember regular-sized rainbows.
Dunno about the unicorns either.
Fickle_Neck_2366@reddit
They changed for me when I self-administered my first insulin shot.

The Wiki page gives a history.
Truth is, I could never stand any marshmallows in my cereal. They were like slimy pieces of chalk.

I usually eat Wheaties but for my sugar rush I like Lucky Charms. I wish they'd put about 40% more large rainbows in it.
iamnotyounorwouldili@reddit
Hehe....and blue diamonds!!! I can hear that clearly. I would have done things to get my hands on those rainbows when I was a kid, I was obsessed with prisms and light refraction when I was a kid, a whole bowl of rainbows would have been the ultimate breakfast cereal
indefiniteretrieval@reddit
I just had frosted flakes and fruit loops
Dramatically lower sugar

Im not sure, but when I was little, Count Chocula had these little marshmallows that were the size of Tic-Tacs. I remember being really pissed off when in the 80's (I think) they switched to the bigger marshmallows. About a decade or so, I bought a box around Halloween (I guess it's seasonal now), and it really sucked. The grain they used changed. I guess it's healthier now, but it is not even a shell of its former magnificent self. And don't get me started on how big of a let down I thought Cookie Crisp cereal was when I first tried it.....
