Looking for Advice: fast-track CDL to Entrepreneur Path

I'm curious to know if anyone here has capitalized on truck driving and branched off into entrepreneurship? I'm a soon to be CDL driver but my goal isn't to just drive- I want to use trucking as a lauchpad to become my own boss withing a few years. I'm trying to map out the fastest, smartest route to hitting that $75-$100k+ quickly as a driver, then eventually moving into owner-operator or small fleet ownership. (maybe even a dispatch business).
a few questions I would like your insight on:
-
which otr or local jobs gave you the fastest experience/highest pay early in your career?
-
tips for saving and transitioning to owning my first truck?
-
any mistakes you see rookies make that I should avoid to accelerate growth?
I appreciate the wisdom folks..

Absolutely foodservice. Most will hire you with little or no experience and if you're a hustler you can begin earning six figures within a year or two.
A word of warning though...I transitioned from foodservice to owner operator, quickly scaling up to 3 trucks, and was never able to pay myself as much as I was earning as a W2 foodservice driver. And I was well prepared - ample savings and more business savvy than most - and I couldn't really make it work long-term. This is likely because I wasn't willing to live in my truck, but it could also be because I wasn't good enough.
Regardless, I'm glad to have tried, having walked away with a profit and a serious real world education in entrepreneurship.
Good luck.

What trucks you had when you had 3 as an owner operator?
