Why is GenX incomparable? What have we done that can't be matched?

For starters, how many bands have there been that had an ARMLESS DRUMMER?? DEF LEPPARD defined our determination to get shit done, and never needing someone to do anything for us. Gen X are some stubborn fools, but were unstoppable. Sorry, end rant.

In before “Rick Allen’s a boomer!”. That’s why I hate using specific birth years to define generations. Culturally, he couldn’t be further from my boomer mother. He’s one of us.

We jammed to Def Leppard in High school. Mom was a boomer and definitely didn't like their music.
Funny story: hubby and I took our youngest daughter to a DL concert. Brother and Niece came along. Halfway through the concert, niece said, "OMG, that drummer only has one arm!" Brother didn't raise her right and we still tease them almost 10 years later.

LOL every generation thinks they are the peak of humanity and the world is ending soon.

GenX is not incomparable. We had some experiences that are different than other generations, but we’re no more special than any other generation.

A granfalloon is a "false karass"—a group of people who share a common identity or purpose based on a fabricated or meaningless premise

Thank you! I'm getting a little tired of the back-patting that goes on sometimes. I like this sub for the shared experiences, not for sitting around sniffing our own farts.
HLOFRND@reddit
Those are vintage, hose water farts, thank you very much.
zombie_spiderman@reddit
OMG WITH THE HOSE WATER
MovingTarget-@reddit
Whatever :)
RCA2CE@reddit
We know we aren’t special
That’s what makes us unique
hikeonpast@reddit
All the hose water and manual transmission posts on this sub suggest that there are a lot of folks here that lean toward generational exceptionalism.
RCA2CE@reddit
We are exceptionally unremarkable
Remarkably so
Our whatever’s are high, our fk’s are low
All we wanted was to be left alone in our average home

I feel the only thing special with us is that we don't, for the most part, care one fuck about how we are viewed by society and/or history.
We tend to avoid the karma-whoring brain-rot creations, even if it is just out of inertia and leftover angst from the 80s and 90s that has solidified into a kind of "crust of disdain", as opposed to any real sense of purpose. This mystifies and confuses the other generations above and below in age, as they all seem to care about what others think of them...
A LOT
Aggressive_Jury_2667@reddit
This subreddit of shows otherwise though.

3,000% and on point. Gen X ain't a monolith.
Nick__Nightingale__@reddit
Def Leppard are boomers tho, as is most bands from the 80s and 90s.
DeezDoughsNyou@reddit
Keep wondering if it matters when the band members were born. Def Leppard are all boomers but we were their audience. Although I suppose the younger boomers were too. Can't really think of any Gen X musicians that are incomparable. But the extreme sports athletes were pretty amazing.
DapperGovernment4245@reddit
Maynard from Tool, Zack de la Rocha and Tom Morello from rage against the machine, Trent Reznor from NIN
Personally I would call all of them incomparable but I might be biased.

Ring in a new millennium
Drslappybags@reddit
Yeah, because millennials weren't around for that.
highjayhawk@reddit
Shoo millennial, this is our nostalgia page. We make our own facts. Boomerfied.
Drslappybags@reddit
You use facts very loosely.
Fun-Distribution-159@reddit
You are not rick allen. None of us are. What he has gone through is something that just about none of us can relate to. We are not as cool as the fart sniffers in our cohort think we are.
MaximumJones@reddit
What has 9 arms and sucks?
Def Leppard
MonoBlancoATX@reddit
Um... he's not "armless".
He still has one, right?
Also, is he even Gen X?
vajrasana@reddit
Rick Allen, born 1963, is not GenX…
Jasonstackhouse111@reddit
We could argue about that, as Coupland, the "father" of our generational name deemed it 1961-, so we can let someone in from 1963 without much problem.
Cool-Coffee-8949@reddit
1963 is usually considered the cusp year.

Survive the generation before us, as well as our parents.
