Isn't a pistol enough for the average Citizen self defense?

Context: Been watching pistol videos on YouTube and I've seen people with war machines, those we see in cod with all the accessories
I also like watching EDC videos and most people just carry a pistol, but I saw one dude who carries what I assume to be a small machine gun
Why do some of you need so many guns other than one or two pistols if you're not a collector?
BoysenberryUnhappy29@reddit
Unless you're a dealer, LEO, or obscenely rich, nobody is carrying a small machine gun.
To answer your question, though, many people have "truck guns."
Infamous_Towel_5251@reddit
I think OP is confusing semi-automatic rifles for machine guns.

I was watching a video of some Brazilians protest against the government banning Twitter and I don't understand. Isn't only using government approved speech on government approved websites enough for the average citizens freedom of speech? Why talk on open websites when one government moderated site is enough?

For something like conceal and carry a modern semi automatic pistol is the correct choice. For home defense things get more nuanced. Depending on your location, house, family, personal abilities, and so on a pistol, rifle, or shotgun might be the correct answer.

Some of us are hunters too.

I pistol won’t take down a grizzly bear, mountain lion, or moose if one is coming at you. Depending on where you are, we have some pretty scary big game that could kill you if you’re ill prepared or not paying attention.

500 magnum...

A lot of us are hunters actually.
If you took all the deer hunters from just Wisconsin, they’d be the fifth largest army in the world.
storywardenattack@reddit
That sounds extremely made up
SGDFish@reddit
This may have changed, but when I was growing up, the general consensus was that a shotgun was the better weapon for home defense for the average person, especially if they weren't shooting regularly.
cans-of-swine@reddit
No one is daily carrying a small machine gun.
DaisyCutter312@reddit
Yeah you're letting Call of Duty influence your opinions here....do you even know what the effective range of a pistol is, even for a decently trained person?
Snagtooth@reddit
Rifles are flat out a lot better than pistols. Think of it like this, in medieval times, would you rather have a small parring knife or a shortsword with you? Obviously, the shortsword for the extra reach, but also because they are a lot easier to handle with proper training.
Wkyred@reddit
Depends on what you’re defending against.
Also virtually all gun crime is done with pistols, banning other types of firearms would be completely pointless, extraordinarily controversial, and wouldn’t even address the problem of gun violence whatsoever
Real-Psychology-4261@reddit
In my opinion, the average person doesn't need any gun whatsoever for self-defense.

Some people are hobbyists and like to go to gun ranges to shoot different guns with different accessories. I'm not one, but other people like to do it.
