Picked this 50' DeSoto Custom project up earlier this year. Gonna throw an atlas 4200/ar5 in it and I'll be the first person to drive it in 30+ years đź¤

That’s freaking clean!

Original paint, too!!
rawkguitar@reddit
Wow! That’s amazing

Love that you’re keeping it a straight 6. Should be a good cruiser with the power those Atlases have

Thanks! I agree. I bought it with a 327/glide somewhat sitting in it. But exhaust is gonna be a nightmare without cutting it all up. The 4200 just makes sense! I'm stoked on it and think I can still get a retro look outta it

There is something to be said about foregoing any of the turbo exhaust plumbing for the 4200 and just slapping a procharger on there (if big power is one of your stretch goals) -- blowers massively simplify the exhaust routing :)

I probably won't be going turbo. Just a reliable cruiser will be good!

Man I haven’t seen a De Soto out in the wild like ever, that’s a pretty car
thunder_lloyd@reddit (OP)
Same, really! I went to look at it and just couldn't pass it up! It's in such good condition overall
Outrageous_Shallot61@reddit
Wait I just noticed- why is Buzz hanging off of your trailer?
thunder_lloyd@reddit (OP)
No sure! It's not my trailer lol

S14 or S15 ? I have a 50 S14 if you need any info
thunder_lloyd@reddit (OP)
What's the difference?? The wiring was chopped off just short of the firewall. Is that info easy to come by?

The Club DeSoto.org is handy and there are reprint manuals available. In 50 things we're mostly same but IAD vs IAT distributor means different points and condenser. Looks like you are doing a change in engine and gearbox as I read it? Watch your ass in the rear brakes - the hub and drum are cast as one and on taper axel. You need a big puller and stand off to the side so when the rusty preload pops it doesn't clock you in the head. Brakes are manual adjust, so on front if I remember there are upper and lower wheel cylinders making shoe change amusing. I built Motown wire harness and I upgraded the 6v to 12v as well as beefed up the ignition switch wire- it is carrying a shit load of amps and I should do a relay. The car is at cousins but I did a frame on reman a while ago. Lugs are right hand and left hand so don't snap them off !

It has what I believe is a 8.8 rear end swapped in and a 327/glide half sitting in it that I'm gonna sell to fund a modern inline 6 with a 5 speed
vonkluver@reddit
Was grandmas and brother got it for a while. The stock 236 over heats since no one remembers to change the cooling passage tube. It's like riding on a cloud tho
vonkluver@reddit
Also if it has the tip toe transmission loom up how to drive it if you are keeping

It's a real beauty, best of luck on the swap.
