Yard dogging

After two years I finally left Swift, I got tired of the shit pay and they didn’t want to give local.
I’m from Orange County, CA and I’m interested in doing yard work just to be closer to home. Local is a maybe but would prefer to be in a yard and I don’t want OTR I’m sick of it.
Any recommendations?
Was also looking into food service like Sysco or McClane but not sure on how they work?
Dump trucking also caught my attention but don’t know how to get into it
What else can I use the class A for?

Indeed tends to be your best bet for that kind of work. There are a million companies that only need 1-2 yard guys, so having notifications setup for those positions is your best bet. Mine just alerted me this morning about a yard job near me that popped up starting at $31/hr.

Any big LTL pays pretty good for P&D daycab work, could also do linehaul and be out and back the same day or overnight in a hotel.
Foodservice around my area pays ok but you’re gonna be unloading your truck by yourself.
Dump trucks class a is pretty easy to learn in a day or 2 and class b even easier. Mostly just driving around in circles all day.
At the end of the day I’d look into an LTL or maybe some company that maybe hauls scrap metal or something that stays local

Orange county, California has a shit ton of local companies. All the big Ltl , and food service companies are there. Dude just drive around in your car, and you will see lots of daycabs. Get the company names, and start applying.

Amazon has yard jockeys pays decent you stay in yard just backing trailers into dock doors or taking them out and put them on slip easy work.

They’re vastly different in terms of work you’re expected to do. Yard dog is a sitting position and you either get really good at backing or you’re shuffled out. Equipment is hit or miss on if it’s new or has ac. Food service is like flooring, you lift a lot, you carry it everywhere, you look at customer’s buildings or areas and wonder how or why you should do it. It’s for young knees, young shoulders.
