I love this episodes that feels live a mini epic movie inside the show and the price is one of them. Really good. The action, the war, the conflict between our gals, xena slow descent into evil, gabrielle bringing her back. Well-acted, well directed. So good.
Something bad happens which causes Gabrielle to question whether she can keep travelling with Xena. Perdicus asks for their help with some problem, but Gabrielle ends up seriously hurting a goon or fails to rescue someone? She and Perdicus both decide to “retire” from being warriors. I’m not sure they need to “marry” as opposed to just trying to start a more peaceful life together - Gabrielle as a healer, Perdicus as a farmer.
Xena is struggling on her own. She feels unmotivated and unsure what she should be doing. She learns of Callisto’s escape and it gives her new purpose and drive - hunt down Callisto. Callisto lays a false trap in Amphipolis by making Xena think she’s targeting Cyrene. Callisto kills Perdicus.
Gabrielle is distraught and wants vengeance. Xena tries to talk her out of it. Lots of juicy emotional stuff about bloodlust and revenge. Xena allows Callisto to die.
You should write a fanfic that expands on all those ideas to make it a more complete story - particularly the Gabrielle bit where something happened that made her think about not continuing with Xena because as good-hearted as she is, she really DID make the decision to marry Perdicus very quickly. Now I know in some other fanfics the authors say she did that because Xena wouldn't commit to her or make the first move so to speak, but I think your explanation/expansion of the storyline is better.
Thing is though, dedicating an entire first-parter to Gabrielle and Perdicus will only make fans despise his episode focus more than his 2 minute screentime. I do believe a two-parter to stretch out Gabrielle's complexion towards Callisto would be better developed than the rushed resolution we got.
Winter Solstice, The Search, Episode 12 (Xena dies after being hit by a log), A Day in the Life, Episode 18 (Xena goes blind and prefers to go after Gabi, rather than look for the antidote), Cyclops' Curse (Xena enters a cursed ship to save Gabi) and Episode 22 (Xena asks Dragon if he would set fire to the place where the woman he loves and Dragon, asks Xena: "The question is you?", which already implies that Dragon knows what's going on between Xena and Gabi.)
Ok so you mean Destiny where Xena is hit by the log, Lost Mariner when Xena and Gabrielle are on Cecrops cursed ship, and A Comedy of Eros where Xena is shot with Cupid's arrow an falls for Draco, the warlord.
Like thought-provoking questions about justice, culminating in the "hero" letting someone die. Innocent Gabs driven to want to kill. A psychotic but compelling "villain" who made reasonable points about judging who "deserved" to die or kill, was "good" or "evil." I was dumbfounded the first time I watched the ending and thought, "Wow, this show maybe deeper than the outfits, humor, stunts, eye candy, general wackiness, etc. looks on the surface.

I'm always torn between Return of Callisto e The Price.
I'm gonna go with Return of Callisto

The Price is extremely underrated imo.

That scene at Xena's campfire with Gabi, talking about Callisto, is really good ❤️

Yeees, and also just Callisto callistoing around is so much fun

Even though it was screaming to be a two-parter and had some very rushed elements, Return of Callisto!
Latte-Catte@reddit (OP)
It's a crime that Gabrielle took a day to accept the marriage, and then only married for a day. Perdicus the most underdeveloped husband ever.
Agent8699@reddit
Yes, it easily could have been a three parter:
Something bad happens which causes Gabrielle to question whether she can keep travelling with Xena. Perdicus asks for their help with some problem, but Gabrielle ends up seriously hurting a goon or fails to rescue someone? She and Perdicus both decide to “retire” from being warriors. Return of Callisto is fantastic, but would have worked better as a two parter.
A Day in the Life is just perfection.
Both should definitely be in the top 5, top 3 even.
Latte-Catte@reddit (OP)
The thing is though, would fans even enjoy an extra prologue episode dedicated to Gabrielle and Perdicus, or would that episode be hated either way? 😅
