9070 xt and Ryzen 5 9600x overkill for 1440p?

Goals: 1440p gaming on a 27 inch monitor, with a 1080p 22 inch monitor on the side for whatever else I'm ADHDing out on while I play games (youtube videos, discord, music, etc).
I've been playing league on a gtx 1060 for like 8-9 years and haven't played much else, so this should be quite the upgrade. I want to expand my horizons and be able to play games like Expedition 33 and Helldivers 2 on decent/high settings without worrying about it too much.
Here is what I have come up with:
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/xKhBVF
Is this overkill for 1440p?
Are there any upgrades I could make with a high return on investment that will be noticeable?
Basically, I just want someone who knows what they're doing to give this a once over. I haven't built a PC in quite some time.
Thanks in advance!

No, not at all. If you can afford it, go for it.
I did an optimization pass on your build for you.

Lol, why? And be another bitch for ngreedia?
sophie_elisa@reddit
With a $30 difference, there's zero reason to go for the 9070 XT. I consider myself quite neutral, and the XT's main strength over the Ti is its (normally) significantly lower price.
When both are roughly the same price, there is simply no reason not to pick the 5070 Ti. Brand loyalty is stupid.
AMD cares as less about you as Nvidia does.
Hothacon@reddit
Yeah I'm not giving anymore of my money to them after 24 years of doing so. I don't agree with their attitude and corporate greed and, I don't care about the epenis bragging and highest fps anymore, I want value for my dollar before I die and rot in the ground cause it doesn't matter worth shit in the end
sophie_elisa@reddit
You say you want value for your dollar, which is what the 5070 Ti offers, at least with a minor price difference of $30 as stated here. You gain access to DLSS 4, which both looks better (FSR 4 looks stunning as well, to be fair), and is much more supported in games. There are various other Nvidia exclusive features. These alone already make up for the tiny price difference in my eyes.
On top of that, you have better raster performance on average, even if negligible as both GPUs are trading blows. Raytracing performance is superior by quite a bit, which will definitely matter in the future as Raytracing starts to become mandatory in some newer titles. Redstone will hopefully close that gap.
As I said earlier, the 9070 XT's main strength is the much better price for roughly the same performance, but overall, it's still the "worse" product (I said worse, not bad). When both reach the same price point, there isn't really much reason to go for the XT.
If both Cards were at their MSRP ($600 vs $750) I'd go for the 9070 XT any day, but currently, the Ti is closer to its MSRP than the XT is.
Hothacon@reddit
What part of no longer supporting ngreedia did you miss?
sophie_elisa@reddit
Is AMD better? The company that sells 8 GB cards in 2025, same as the Nvidia you despise so much?
Hothacon@reddit
I guess we should just die then, cause everyone is greedy.
sophie_elisa@reddit
How about we stop the fanboyism towards companies? Doesn't that make more sense?
Or you can continue painting one company as the devil and the other as a saint, instead of simply buying whichever product of them is better at the moment.
aragorn18@reddit
Multiple independent reviewers have confirmed that the 5070 Ti is faster in most games than the 9070 XT. There are a few games that favor AMD, but not many.
FSR4 is very cool, but DLSS4 still performs and looks better.
Nvidia GPUs are dramatically faster at productivity apps like Blender.

You do you man.
No_Okra6677@reddit
cause it’s better (?)
Ruger15@reddit
This is a good build and i may be nitpicking but personally I woulda have stayed with the 9070xt and grabbed a 7600x3d. He will be cpu bottlenecked in cpu heavy games with the 9600x.
aragorn18@reddit
In the US the 7600X3D is only available at Microcenter. If OP is near one, then it's a good option.
stormpadre@reddit (OP)
Unfortunately there is no Microcenter anywhere near me. So it's $350 for the 7800x3d vs $180 for the 9800x.
Ruger15@reddit
Oh wow I had no clue that was a thing!
Luckyirishdevil@reddit
AND they are $300, pretty close to the sale price of a 7800x3D. The bundles with them are great, though. $429 for an asus B650E tuff wifi mobo and 32GB ddr5 6000.
TheAlPaca02@reddit
Jealous lol, here in the EU you'd pay like 200 eur more for a combo kit like that.
Ruger15@reddit
Yea the bundle is what I’m grabbing soon. I mentioned it because if you save the $30 from the GPU you’re spending $70 more for just the cpu instead of the 9600x. Microcenter only kills it thought like you said if you ain’t near one.
Aggressive_Care_6833@reddit
Hey if u can, could u also check my pcpartpicker? Im also tryna build a 9600x and a 9070xt pc. Just wanna know if these stuff im about to get are good. If not then whats the best replacement and why? Link: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/F9ytGJ
aragorn18@reddit
Saved you $200 for the same performance.

Wait could u please explain why the cpu cooler, memory, storage, and psu were changed?
aragorn18@reddit
Cheaper, but still high quality.
stormpadre@reddit (OP)
This is great. I think I will indeed spring for the 5070ti. Thank you!
Significant-Boot-260@reddit
If you're gonna play league, yeah its probably overkill. I run a 9600x with 9060xt 16gb and I can't think of a game that I can't get 165+ fps on. I get like 600 on valorant, 300 on throne and liberty, 200+ destiny 2, 300+ on R6 all high-ultra settings. If you don't think you need the 9070, the 9060 will save you ~$300.
stormpadre@reddit (OP)
Would a 9060xt hold up on high/ultra settings on games like Expedition 33, Helldivers 2, and Deep Rock Galactic?
Significant-Boot-260@reddit
I honestly don't know, never benchmarked or played those games. Sorry.
Significant-Boot-260@reddit
Also a dual-tower cpu cooler might be better, as well as some case fans (the case you selected does not have included ones). If you only need 1tb space that's fine, personally I would opt for 2tb.
stormpadre@reddit (OP)
I thought the 9600x is pretty efficient/runs pretty cool. I forgot to mention I will be getting some case fans as well! Thanks
OriginTruther@reddit
It is efficient and runs relatively cool. You'd be fine with any cooler really and since you've chosen the lian li a3 there's no real reason to get rgb since you'll not really see it with the mesh sides.
stormpadre@reddit (OP)
True that. I actually plan on the black but didn’t see it on part picker
Luckyirishdevil@reddit
It is, but the Phantom Spirirt 120 is $35 on Amazon and cools like NH-D15.... why not?
PAPO1990@reddit
Depends on the games you are playing, and what settings you want to run, but outside of the most demanding scenarios, the GPU is a LITTLE overkill, but should be great. I've been playing some REALLY old games on my 9070XT lately, on a 1440P ultrawide, but I've gone into the AMD driver and overridden the Anti-Aliasing to be 8x Super-Sampling, stuff looks great and I've still got some performance headroom.
Liquidbudsmoke13@reddit
9600x 16Gb
No-Upstairs-7001@reddit
I've just gone 9070XT and 9800X3D for 1440p stable high Frame rates
Naerven@reddit
Absolutely not. There are games on ultra settings with RT on you likely won't hit a 60 fps average.
stormpadre@reddit (OP)
Good to know on the paste issues, hadn't heard about that. thanks
Myewgul@reddit
Personally I'd look at PNY or MSI if you're steering Nvidia but yeah!
Tsunamie101@reddit
Just because those specs could go above 1440p currently, they're nice to be on the safe side for a couple of years. Sure, you can get into 1440p with cheaper parts, but they're also gonna run into performance problems sooner.
Just make sure whether the 9070xt or 5070ti is cheaper in your region. Prices can fluctuate quite a bit.
iliketurtles69_boner@reddit
Honestly if you have the money to spare no PC is ever really overkill. I have a 4TB 14k mt/s gen5 nvme SSD, why’d I get it? No clue but loading bars cower in fear around it. Being real though it is brilliant when doing video editing, music production, or opening massive files while coding.
Basically I’d always say go for whatever you can afford, provided the money isn’t better spent elsewhere.
LuckoBj@reddit
I play 1440p on a Ryzen 5600x and RTX 3070, i don't think that's overkill.
You would do just fine!
stormpadre@reddit (OP)
Sick, thanks!
VersaceUpholstery@reddit
No, that’s like the perfect mid/high end combination
stormpadre@reddit (OP)
Sick, thanks
beljko0106@reddit
no its good, high mid tier I would say, 5070ti is stronger tho, if you can get it for the same money
or go AMD to stick it to Ngreedia
stormpadre@reddit (OP)
Seems like the 5070ti is the way to go for sure. Thanks
SneakyAl44@reddit
I'd say it's overkill from a 080 Ti onwards since 080 onwards is start being 4k territory.
soJplay@reddit
I think that’s perfect for 1440p gaming and some side monitor stuff,i’d say go for it, find the right 9070xt that you want to go for,but in my opinion the other cards are more better in terms of features and base clock, but they’re all the same relatively,i’m going with the XFX Magnetic air 9070xt which is one of more expensive and biggest cards on the lineup but they’re cooling is superb and the fact the fans are magnetic for easy replacing in the future
