Transitioning from a Corded to Cordless Phone (1980s)

When my family bought a cordless phone for the first time, we had to get used to turning it on when answering it.
Otherwise…
We picked up the phone to say hello, and the phone would freakin’ ring in our ear causing so much pain. Argh!!

What about party lines? My grandmother had one well into the 80's. Her line and the neighbors across the street. Couldn't use the phone (not like I had anyone to call) if they where using it.

Cordless phones were a boon for those of us with scanner radios. I learned so much about my neighbors that way!

I actually had a cell phone before I had a cordless home phone believe it or not. My mom wasn’t never good with new technology (also had one of those Motorola bricks, so I had a cell early by comparison to many)

My parents were always the last for technology. Microwave in the late 80s, VCR in the late 90s, answering machine in the 00s.
We had the first cordless phone in the early 80s. My dad had a detached workshop and my mom wanted to be able to buzz him without having to walk outside.

If completely forgotten about that! So painful.
