What can I do with parts of a late friend’s vehicle as keepsakes?

What did this vehicle mean to your late friend? What was their relationship like with this car? What did driving or owning it mean to them? Was any part of how they expressed themselves tied to this car in some way?
If there are good answers to these questions, then what to preserve will become more clear.
If the car is in working order or is an enthusiast car, would your friend prefer it go as a whole to someone who would use it?
If there are not good answers here, then you may get more insight into exploring the reason why preserving part of the vehicle is important to you.

He was a gearhead his whole life. He constantly was working on it.
4westguy@reddit
If it's not wrecked, put it back on the road. That's what I would want.

Time, money and passion are always a factor. At this point it would be easier to rebuild from the ground up

Get your friends together and make it a shared memory not just of them, but of what they loved. Even better if you’ve got kids. Show them what it means to bring something back to life, to work on something that mattered. That kind of experience stays with you forever. Rebuilding it with friends or family could turn the process into a living tribute, for all of you....

This is the answer. I know people that have parked their late friends vehicle in a field and let it rot. If my cars end up that way, I'm coming back to haunt someone. DRIVE THEM

One of my friends is a small beneficiary of my life insurance that in the event that I die, he gets that car and money to build it.
LowPiece6576@reddit
What car is it ?
Spicywolff@reddit
Shifter knob and steering wheel. Have it framed after a good cleaning.
Chevyguy86@reddit (OP)
Doesn’t have one. Also it would be around 7 pieces I would like to have made.
justaboss101@reddit
Doesn't have a steering wheel???
QLDZDR@reddit
Does it have a driver's and passenger seat? Depending on the quality of the car the pair can become your TV recliners.

Shift nob is the answer. I had a Eg Civic, it go hit, savage titled, gave it to my bro, but I took the shift knob. Bought an DA Integra and replaced the shift knob with the Civic shift knob. Felt like I never left the Civic. Miss both cars.

If you're parting it out/scrapping it, bring coil springs to a local blacksmith and ask them to make a knife out three out of it. Coil and leaf springs make decent knives, punches, chisels, etc

You can make a side table/coffee table by putting a glass top on the face of a wheel. My old Subaru shop did this with some BBS STi wheels, looked awesome.

Holy crap. It took about four months but we finally get to see an original question that isn’t just someone desperately farming for attention or karma or whatever
“What car comes to mind when you think of a caterpillar?”
“If you could only drive a car with your feet would it change how you feel about driving?”
“What car brand says “I thought Toy Story 2 was just ok”
Chevyguy86@reddit (OP)
Obvious choice VW bug
No but I would have sick calves
Porsche

Xmas ornaments with any shiny bits.
Once a year they come out and we all remember them, plus a good conversation topic.
Chevyguy86@reddit (OP)
I do like this idea
Madder_Than_Diogenes@reddit
Hang up one of the number plates and a photo of the vehicle with your friend. Like Jay Leno says, we're just custodians of these things. Pass them on to the next person.
Chevyguy86@reddit (OP)
Unfortunately not a ton of pictures when he passed it was right before we had a camera in our pockets at all time.
Ohyea0@reddit
decorate your garage with the parts? it would look cool
testdrivee@reddit

Before I got rid of my old mustang, I pulled the horse off the grill and the badges from the fenders. I wish I kept the rest of the car.
joshp8r@reddit
Hand turned rings are great with metal shavings, carbon fiber etc.
Yotsubato@reddit
Keep the license plate, if you can. (Depends on state)
slimjimreddit@reddit
What kind of car? Lots of options, depending on the make/model some things are more iconic or better suited to being a keepsake
rabid_catfucker@reddit
turn the gearbox into a sink.Make a coffee table from the engine, use all the car parts to make a bar on the patio if you can, create a garage style bar
Ghost17088@reddit
Whole side of the car as living room wall art!
boondoggie42@reddit
You can remove the badges/emblems and turn them into fridge magnets with adhesive magnet material off amazon.
