Porsche axes ICE 718 Cayman and Boxster ahead of EV comeback

The German brand has stopped taking new car orders for the coupé and convertible ahead of planned end to production next year. Cars can still be ordered from stock and existing orders will be fulfilled.
su1ac0@reddit
Imagine not even being able to learn from Dodge's mistake.
boomerbill69@reddit
My friend sold his GTS 4.0 last week to a dealer after 2 years and 20something thousand miles.
Paid $98k, got $93k, dealer already listed the car for $113k.
This tells me there is some crazy demand for these cars and there will be a ton of FOMO around the end of the ICE Boxster/Cayman. If the ICE version comes back, Porsche will just take advantage of that demand and price it higher than ever.
thekhaos@reddit
Porsche stock price is down 34% YOY and their CEO just quit. They’re going to get fucked further if they keep pricing things higher.
InternalAd3921@reddit
They're not having problems in North America that's why the prices keep going up. They are getting smoked in Asia. These companies think in terms of decades and in a decade, with piss poor Asian sales, Porsche will be majorly fucked
Jazzlike_Cress6855@reddit
VAG decided Porsche should go from a small, niche brand to a volume luxury player. Priced higher than Audi, Volkswagen, etc and a rung lower than Lamborghini.
Maybe there just isn't enough of a market for these vehicles to command the price premium they've been offering. They are also some of the highest profit margin cars in the VAG lineup.
So realistically they need to bring the pricing back down to earth (cut margins) and reduce their product lineup.
Taycan and Panamera can go. they sell in negligible numbers and have poor resale. Play with performance EV under audi brand until battery life etc improves.
Keep Macan and Cayenne as money printers.
Drop Cayman & Boxster back to be entry level sports cars & prices back to earth.
Overall, cut model variants to be simpler along the lines of 3 models max and the occasional special edition (entry level, mid range, max spec)
If there's a market for it, sub brand AMG style for "Porsche works" that can still produce GT3 RS at insane margins.
Given the numbers they actually sell. Do they really need to simultaneously be selling 911's as Carrera, Carrera 4S, Carrera GTS, Carrera S, Carrera T, GT3, GT3 RS, Gt3 with Touring, S/T, Spirit 70, Targa 4, Targa 4 GTS and Targa 4S?
Cayman is just as bad. There's at least 6 different current variants I can think of.
Cayman and Boxster has arguably got too good / too feature rich. They are meant to be the entry level car that gets you into the brand and dreaming of some day owning a 911. Not a car you cross shop.
Scalebuilder@reddit
They already do sub-brand. It's called Porsche Motorsport and they make all the GT models.
Cayman and Boxster aren't meant to be the car that gets you into dreaming of owning a 911.
Do some more research before commenting please.
cat_prophecy@reddit
VAG is running into the issue that GM has/had: they're competing with each other in too many markets.
spiketeam@reddit
Have you seen used 718 prices recently? Especially the gts 4.0?
tallonfive@reddit
That’s the one I’ve fallen in love with. How bad is pricing now?
spiketeam@reddit
Hard to find CPO under 100K for low mile later years. i.e. closer to original MSRP.
tallonfive@reddit
Just gonna have settle with tuning my Audi for now I suppose.
Lutetia03@reddit
I used to dream of a Cayman S. I'll just enjoy my Golf R instead.
Kaiathebluenose@reddit
There’s only 22 CPO manual boxsters and cayman in the whole country right now. Only 3 are under 100k and they’re all boxsters
cookingboy@reddit
Is it going up a lot? I have one but I don’t plan on selling anytime soon
neodymiumex@reddit
Not really. Prices had started trending down but they are slowly trending back up now that allocations aren’t available any more.
hi_im_bored13@reddit
What? How will fewer options correct prices? There is no returning ICE version
su1ac0@reddit
The fact that the EV only versions will sell at a fraction of the ICE models and they'll languish on lots like a Charger EV and Porsche has to start fire-sales to stay afloat, but now I'm rethinking my theory.
What'll most likely happen:
1. EV cars will rot on lots
Demand for the base 911 will skyrocket and result in 2-5 more price hikes before...
ICE Boxster and Cayman return, this time 30% higher priced than previous ICE 718
So basically Porsche is pulling a version of the New Coke strategy on us.
orthopod@reddit
I can't wait to buy an EV Cayman. Likely can be a track monster - 3600 lbs and may be 900 HP for the dual engine ones.
Definitely seeing fast EV chargers at tracks now. This should be great
BEEPBOPIAMAROBOT@reddit
That will be awesome! You can go around the track 7 times and then be towed home when the battery is dead.
Particular_Flower111@reddit
There is not a chance in the world that an EV 718 will be faster than an ICE 911 unless they move the model upmarket as a 911 equivalent. I’ll gladly be wrong but I just don’t see it happening. The boxster/cayman platform has been neutered its entire existence to protect the 911s superiority. Why would that change now?
Nero_Wolff@reddit
Are you sure they wont handicap it so the beloved 911 remains king?
Droopy1592@reddit
That would be cruelty
hi_im_bored13@reddit
Ah I understand, I thought you were saying these will be replaced w/ ice directly
Yeah I'm betting on the likely as well
Plastic_Willow734@reddit
I’m sure they’ll release a Cayman/Boxster T that’ll just be a 981 S and sell it for GT4 money
epsiblivion@reddit
i can see this happening and it will still sell. porsche people are nuts about 6 cylinder boxers
alphamammoth101@reddit
They do sound amazing. But I'll stick to my boxer 6 Outback and not the Porsche. (Totally not cause im broke)
BioDriver@reddit
Not as long as people keep buying them, which, unfortunately, they are: https://www.roadandtrack.com/news/a63396524/porsche-911-best-sales-year-ever-us/
woodsides@reddit
Lol no it won't correct. Nor will there be an ICE version that'll be returning. They're coming out with an EV Cayman that probably start close to 100k.
SnikySquirrel@reddit
Definitely the latter, just look at what happened when they brought the flat 6 to the 718
xXNodensXx@reddit
These cars will flop just like the 4cyl turbos did.
In a few years, Porsche will bring back the ICE versions due to popular demand.
UltraHawk_DnB@reddit
I fail to see why anyone would want an electric cayman (that will probably be more expensive as well)
reward72@reddit
I’m sure it’ll be faster, but the whole point of a roadster is the driving experience. The smell, the noises, the tactical feedback of a connected analog experience. I can afford a new Boxster but I’d rather keep and carefully maintain my 25 years old M Roadster.
bobbistef@reddit
I for one couldn't care less for the smell of ICEs
reward72@reddit
I meant smelling the great outdoors, the rain and everything else while driving a roadster. To be fair that part is no different with an EV.
Users5252@reddit
It's possible to build a driver's EV, Tesla did it with their first car, Electric Lotus 7 style cars are also a thing. Porsche can easily make one if they wanted to.
Perisharino@reddit
Just take 1500lbs out of a cayman it's that easy. This is the first time I've ever heard anybody refer to the roadster as a drivers car lmao
xlb250@reddit
What do you mean? The Roadster wasn’t perfect, but it received many favorable reviews for the driving experience.
Perisharino@reddit
"It drives like a heavy silent lotus" was the takeaway from back in the day. I wouldn't call that favorable.
Why are you comparing the weight of a 17 year old car to modern ones? Yet alone one of the lightest chassis built in the past 40 years that someone threw a shit ton of batteries at to replace the motor
xlb250@reddit
I feel like that’s a compliment. I’m not arguing that it’s better than an Elise. But similar driving dynamics and feel, and heavier, is still very good. It was still among the lightest sports cars at the time it was released. Lighter than Cayman…
I wanted to bring up modern cars to understand what you mean by driver’s car. I mean I see the Camaro being described as driver’s car. But I drove it, and it felt much less of a pure experience than a Miata.
In my view, the ideal driver’s car is the one that connects the driver to the driving experience the most. I feel like weight and size are a pretty big part of that. If the Roadster isn’t driver’s car, then it’s hard for me to imagine most of the loved cars here fitting that category either.
Perisharino@reddit
It's not it's more of a testament to the elise being so light that even adding a literal half a ton of batteries it's still fairly light. Outside of being silent and the torque the roadster was an overall regression from the original car.
I understand the point you're trying to make here but there's more to a driver's car than just feel alone you have to look at them in context of the era they were designed in a miata is a simple small lightweight car that hasn't really changed in 30 years the camaro is vastly more complex and has a different mission statement that is more comparable to other modern driver's like a 991 (which is also a porker compared to a miata)
kubapuch@reddit
Respectfully, and in your favor, why bother arguing with this guy? Tesla hasn’t even been able to roll out the roadster to the masses - it’s not like it’s an option for people.
gimpwiz@reddit
Tesla Roadster was 2877 lb. BRZ is 2820 curb weight.
to_the_victors_91@reddit
I’ve never driven one but I’ve heard good things
natesully33@reddit
I imagine the 718 EV will be quite good, and it's something I actually want. I also imagine the price will be completely insane of course haha, I think I'd really like an EV Miata equivalent rather than an EV convertible Porsche...
I'm really amazed how averse "enthusiast" types are to the EV 718. My perspective might be a little different - I like going fast and pulling G's with the roof down, the powertain is more of a means to an end. Not that I don't enjoy rowing gears and stuff (I've owned 3 Miatas in various states of modification and a C7) but having instant torque and low noise in a roadster sounds fun and awesome! Give me something new I haven't experienced before, not a tweaked version of the same thing I already did multiple times.
I think I'm also not really in to modern ICE cars - they are software heavy, often auto only, full of engineered in drama contrasting with increasing isolation, and kinda just... not really a pure/analog/whatever experience. Like I'd have a ton of fun tracking a C8, but it wouldn't be because of how I'm interfacing with the powertrain and chassis the way I did in my C7. And the C7 was a step up in isolation and software compared to the NA Miatas I've had, of course.
IStillLikeBeers@reddit
I don't think it's totally aversion to an EV Cayman/Boxster on its own (but that attitude is certainly out there), but rather the combo of no ICE option and 911s getting crazy expensive. There will be no more "affordable" ICE Porsche sports car which makes people hate the EV.
reward72@reddit
Agreed. I like that the EV Cayman/Boxster will exist and they probably will be quite good. The problem is that ICE variants will continue to exist (even if only in the used market). EVs are objectively better, I welcome them for daily driving, but old analog sports car will always provide a raw, more connected experience that EV will never match - and that is what I want in a fun weekend car.
reward72@reddit
I drove the Tesla EV. It's okay, but outside straight line acceleration (and novelty I suppose) it was a downgrade from the Lotus is was based on.
orthopod@reddit
I retired my daily drive 997.1 GT3 for mostly track duty and now daily a BMW i4 M50.
TBH, it has plenty of character and a fantastic driving experience.
I have no doubt that Porsche will offer us a great car
Visible_Quarter_8129@reddit
ya, I have the Macan 4S with rear axle steering and that thing is mind blowing how it drives like a sports car even on all season tires. I had an i5 M60 and that drove like shit comparatively but glad you like your i4
reward72@reddit
For sure Porsche and BMW will make some of the best EV drivers car. I actually plan to buy the BMW Neue Klasse when it's out as my daily. But for weekend canyon carving, I'd rather drive an old analog car. Heck, by current daily is an M240 that can run circles around my old Roadster, but the Roadster is still more fun.
kaelis7@reddit
Feels like it died for the twentieth time now…
BahnMe@reddit
I think it has to die because of EU regs on cybersecurity? Something to do with the canbus on it is ancient and too expensive to update so they’re just going to retire the whole platform.
not_that_observant@reddit
Mazda managed to make the Miata compliant. I didn't think cyber security is the reason they are dropping ICE 718s.
bakedvoltage@reddit
you’re underestimating how much work it takes to make something EU7 compliant.
not_that_observant@reddit
I think you are underestimating Porsche's capabilities.
bakedvoltage@reddit
no im not. If it was worth the money to Porsche then they would do it, just as mazda did for the miata (which btw required a complete rework of their module architecture). I’m sure the conversation would be different if the 911 was in this position.
VelikBatafuker@reddit
Acording to the Mazda guys they had to rip out more or less everything electronic, and re-do it with the CX-60 electronics.
https://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=779065
Mazda did it because the MX-5 is their halo car, not making one would a be "wrong" for then. I imagine Porsche doesn't feel the same about the 718, especially if they already plan to replace it with an EV.
IStillLikeBeers@reddit
They haven't even been able to sell the 718s in the EU for a few years now. The cybersecurity regs made the decision for them, but Porsche blundered by going all in for a next gen EV version rather than also developing a next gen ICE version.
kaelis7@reddit
Yeah like the Alpine A110, but for this one they managed to get an exception until 2026 as a low volume brand.
The 718 is too mass-produced to use this shortcut I guess yeah.
BahnMe@reddit
I know they produce far fewer 718 than 911s but it’s probably still in the couple thousand per year.
braindawgz@reddit
Porsche delivered 23k 718s in 2024, up from 20k in 2023. In H1 2025, 718 deliveries are down 12% compared to 2024.
Alpine sold 4k cars in 2024. It's a completely different scale.
ClearAccess3826@reddit
Is that 23K 718s sold for the world market or U.S. only?
braindawgz@reddit
Worldwide, it'd be a massive number if it was US only. I don't know if there are official figures published for regional deliveries per model, but US deliveries were 28% of the total worldwide deliveries in 2024.
moldy912@reddit
Couple thousand? Bro come on you know it’s way more than that.
kaelis7@reddit
Yeah exactly, even for the Alpine they had to a weird trick where they cut the production into two different brands, with one entity selling the regular A110 and S models and the other « company » selling only the A110R.
Both have to sell less than 1.500 cars a year to get the exception so that was a decent plan since the top year was at 4000 cars or so iirc, a bit before Covid.
Montague-Withnail@reddit
This is also just in the UK. From the sounds of it they're going to continue fulfilling orders for new cars through to the middle of next year, they're just not taking new orders.
It may just be that they're scaling down production prior to the end of the 718's life and they've decided to stop the production of RHD models earlier to simplify things, of which the UK is probably the biggest market...
ClearAccess3826@reddit
First, the 718 GT4 was discontinued and now the 718 Cayman. I haven't looked at the numbers but maybe cancelling these vehicles were due to the take rate and to some extent driven by price.
The 911 unlike the Cayman has a following like the Corvette. Enthusiasts scream about the price but in the end seem to find the funds to purchase their dream car.
Kaiathebluenose@reddit
the 718 has been outselling the Taycan
ClearAccess3826@reddit
Just looked at the numbers and the 718 increased sales in the U.S. since 2019. I fail to see the significance of Taycan sale numbers as relating to the 718.
Kaiathebluenose@reddit
The taycan is an electric sedan. And sells much worse than a sports car. The macan EV also sells worse than the 718. Both of those EV’s should be outselling the 718. The 718 EV will sell horribly. Porsche buyers don’t want EV’s
neodymiumex@reddit
Do you have a source on the Macan EV selling worse than the 718? Last I heard the Macan EV was about half of Macan sales. Surely there's no way the Macan only sells 2x the number of 718s.
Kaiathebluenose@reddit
I saw a little over 1k in sales for the year in the EV sub
neodymiumex@reddit

neodymiumex@reddit
It's a similar story for PCNA.
https://newsroom.porsche.com/en_US/2025/company/Q1-PCNA-Sales-39125.html
Kaiathebluenose@reddit
Not bad. 3200ish sales. Taycan was like that at first and then nose dived as time went on.
Bot_Fly_Bot@reddit
LOL, no.
ClearAccess3826@reddit
Why do you think these vehicles were cancelled?
neodymiumex@reddit
There are multiple reasons.
Bot_Fly_Bot@reddit
They were required to be cancelled by European Union law as they did not meet the latest requirements for cybersecurity.
Wolfo93@reddit
And just in 5 years they will sell us special new 2030 718 with 6 cylinders for amazing price of just 200k euro!
mayorLarry71@reddit
Sickening. EV based performance and enthusiast cars are the dumbest thing ever. The world has ended. And all for what exactly? What is wrong with some ICE performance cars being available? Can’t we leave EVs to handle the errands and grocery trips?
Purrchil@reddit
In my opinion Porsche needs a “affordable” model. Imagine how many people would buy a Porsche that costs between 50-60k?
They could easily use the platform of a Golf GTI/ Audi.
I don’t think such a cheaper model would do a lot damage to the brand. For a long time Porsche always have had cheaper models like 924’s.
Averageinternetdoge@reddit
Well, as a poor person who's interested in sports cars I'd love to see that.
But the thing is that porsche is a luxury brand. And a big part of that perceived luxury is that it's designed to be unattainable to most. Keeping out the riff-raff is a big part of the appeal. So I really doubt we'll ever see anything affordable from porsche. Or any other sports car brand for that matter.
OtterCreek_Andrew@reddit
They’ve been saying this for like 3 years. Is it finally happening?
wam22@reddit
This shouldn’t be a surprise. This has been on the horizon for at least a year and this is nearly a 10 year old platform. Even if an EV wasn’t replacing it, this platform was due for a refresh. I say this as someone who has owned two 718s. Porsche has also hinted that an entry level ICE sports car (maybe a modern 914/944) is in the works.
Averageinternetdoge@reddit
Any source for that?
V8-Turbo-Hybrid@reddit
I think they could just save that cost to develop MR model such like 914 and 718 or FR GT model such like 944 and 928. Why not just bring back their enter level 911, 912 instead ?
Many Porsche fans still want 911 even though 718 is actual better car. I don't think they minding 911 with flat-4 engine.
mojonito@reddit
Suppressors and Porsches? We should be friends.
OtterCreek_Andrew@reddit
I’m not a fan of Porsche as a brand, I think they’re a shit company who looks for any excuse to exploit and fuck their customers despite being one of the most profitable auto makers.
I do like cars however lol
PRSArchon@reddit
You are confusing the US dealers with the brand.
OtterCreek_Andrew@reddit
Porsche USA as a brand specifically because of their warranty policy change in 2015. Not the dealers, Porsche USA as a whole.
unsaltedbutter@reddit
This story in particular is talking about how the final allocations have gone out. If you were on a dealership list for one and you haven't ordered yet, it ain't happening.
Dazzling-Rooster2103@reddit
They got caught with their pants down with the Cayman EV being consistently delayed, and no plan to have the regular Cayman continued.
The EV version has been seen testing on public roads now since 2021, and demand for EV sports cars has been declining now while ICE sports cars are rallying.
WIP1992@reddit
This has to be one of the worst decisions made by a prominent car manufacturer for a long time
Truly horrendous misstep, basic market research and trends would very clearly show that the target market for this car (enthusiasts) have zero interest in EV sports cars.
Taycan sales have halved in less than a year…I guarantee you they will need to spend hundreds of millions re adapting the 718/Cayman/Macan platforms to integrate ICE powertrains when their sales inevitably crater in another year
virqthe@reddit
Porsche axes their 911 competitors in order to raise prices on tech bros favorite 911 even more.
Dragobrath@reddit
I overextended a bit when I bought a 4.0 Cayman a couple of years ago, but now I feel like I got a unicorn car. I just can't see myself selling it in any foreseeable future. There is nothing to swap to, and it's unlikely there ever will be.
BahnMe@reddit
I’ve owned every version of the Boxster except the 986, there’s nothing like it for the price and mid engine layout. Every iteration is pretty amazing in its own ways. My favorite is still the steering visceral feeling you get from the 987.1 and .2.
Tragically, the number of running Boxsters and Caymans are going to dip hard not because of IMS but because of bore scoring. Every S and up model will bore scoring as a when not if until the 718 where Porsche changed from the fragile Alusil linings. LN Engineering has a great series of articles and PCA has a 4 part video on it.
The base models seem to fare much better because the pistons are cast not forged.
S_W@reddit
I used to have a 2.5L GTS and really enjoyed that car. The torque down low made it way more fun on the street for me compared to an NA engine. While the sound at idle and low in the revs wasn't amazing, it wasn't bad and at higher revs it was quite enjoyable. I also had an APR stage 1 tune on it which made it even more impressive.
The_Bucket_Of_Truth@reddit
987.2 base Cayman 2.9L is one of the best values in modern Porsches. May be THE best.
BahnMe@reddit
Shhhh let’s not let people know for a bit
stoned-autistic-dude@reddit
I mean, the 2.5 does sound terrible. It sounds like a Subaru. It’s a good motor but it sounds pretty bland.
BahnMe@reddit
I used to own a bugeye WRX that I put a ton of miles, they don’t really sound the same. It’s just internet read and repeat shit.
stoned-autistic-dude@reddit
You’re comparing UEL headers with EL headers. The current gen run EL which sounds like a Porsche. The distinctive sound you’re thinking of is from the EJ25, not the FA24.
BahnMe@reddit
There are people who think an S54 out of an E46 M3 sounds awful at redline so I guess sonic appeal is a subjective thing. Somehow though, I doubt you've actually heard the 2.5 GTS with PSE and its unique intake as well as compressor going full chat. I'm sure you've read it was terrible though.
stoned-autistic-dude@reddit
I live in LA. I hear Porsches constantly. I live near a Porsche dealer and there’s a Porsche tuning shop a block from my work. So I’m pretty damn sure I’ve heard the car a million times over at this point.
BahnMe@reddit
Do you really think living near a Porsche dealer and hearing it from some distance is the same experience as driving a car hard? Honestly?
stoned-autistic-dude@reddit
Yes. I have friends with 718s, too. I’ve been in them on ACH. Just sounds like cope. I don’t care because I don’t have a horse in the fight, but it’s engine acoustics.
IStillLikeBeers@reddit
I would've been perfectly happy buying an S if I didn't think the 2.5 sounded like shit. But I do and it does (though you're right sonic appeal is subjective) so that's why I got a 4.0.
gimpwiz@reddit
Two questions:
One, how bad is the bore scoring? Does it start to miss or is it just a bit low on power? Or worse, does it start to pre-ignite due to hot spots?
Two, are people really going to trash the entire car for that issue? Yank the engine, bore over, sleeve. Yes yes it's expensive, it's not a small block chevy, it's got porsche tax. But still, surely cheaper to send the engine to a machine shop than to buy a new car.
BahnMe@reddit
I think it will really depend on the owner and the mileage/desirability of the chassis at that point. The higher the trim and lower the miles, the more likely the engine will be resleeved and most likely upgraded a bit.
And yeah, once the bore scoring gets bad, it can crack the engine itself from what I recall. Once the initial scoring starts, it gets very bad very quickly from what I understand.
gimpwiz@reddit
I assume from pre-ignition? Not good for sure. What are the warning signs?
One of the reasons that machine work on a small block Chevy is so reasonably priced is that 1) there are a shitload of them, 2) there's a ton of experience with them, and 3) the relatively low cost of replacement engines puts sort of a cap on how much a machine shop can charge to fix one.
If the problem is so widespread, there are at least ... tens of thousands, maybe a hundred thousand such engines in the wild? It's nothing like the SBC but it's certainly enough numbers that I expect at least a couple machine shops to offer decent prices on it, figuring it'll be a volume job for them, which increases expertise and cuts cost. But (3) is still a sticking point, where the higher the cost of replacement (or retiring the chassis), the higher the cost of repair that can be borne by the customer.
A lot of porsche engine costs are eyebrow raising to me because, fine, they're expensive engines if you are buying a crate, but they're not THAT complex or difficult to work on. Once they're out of a car, it's not some crazy voodoo stuff, it's "just" a higher performance flat 4 or flat 6. Sure, with oddities, special bits, maybe some more precise tolerances, but nothing crazy. But costs seem to be several multiples over a more common engine. It seems to me, though my opinion is not entirely educated, that this means there's margin on the table for shops to compete in.
BahnMe@reddit
Oh here’s a Reddit resource if you want to read more into it
https://www.reddit.com/r/Porsche_Cayman/comments/1gvtzao/bore_scoring_why_it_happens_and_what_models_it/
BahnMe@reddit
It's probably half Porsche tax and also like you said, there aren't a lot of places that have the know how at least as of now. The same bore scoring affects I think the entirety of the 997 generation except for the few Metzger turbos.
I think the issue with bore scoring is that it's unpredictable when it will happen, can happen at 20k miles or 100k miles, who knows. There are a couple of things you can do like use Ceratec or do short oil intervals but I am definitely not an expert on it. However, all the information is on YT and the LN Engineering site if you want to check it out.

Is bore scoring a thing on the 981?

It appears so because they used the same engines as the 987.2, the 9A1

was it not profitable? it seems like they could have just kept producing it and made an EV alongside it. Replacing your most stripped down basic sports car with an EV is a pretty risky move for Porsche.

Nothing basic and stripped down about a 718. Even the very base Cayman can crest $100k with popular options and GTS 4.0s were regularly seeing an MSRP of between $120-138k for MY2025. RSs can go for anywhere between $180-240k. Sunsetting the Boxster/Cayman was an absolutely asinine idea primarily driven by eco-warrior thinking. Thrilled to already have mine though!

They have been off sale in EU for about a year now

Dumbest move in a long line of recent dumb moves by Porsche.

Not a comeback, more like an imminent flop.

They havent been allowed to sell it in Europe due to some cyber security thing for a while now, so it kinda makes sense unless they want to homologate an entirely new ice one

Fine.
I’ll just shop for a different car.
Someone will always sell real cars.

what the fuck are they doing, unless they make these somehow around the same price this is a stupid decision

Looks like we have some details on the replacement based on Audi's preview.

I'm still convinced they're going out of their way to Nerf the 718 because deep down they know a mid-engine Cayman would smoke their rear-engine 911 all else being equal.

Good news if you already have one. Its an investment you can drive and have fun with now. Pretty much free to own

Given the delays to the new electric car, the strong sales of the outgoing ICE 718, and the stubbornly resilient sales of the ICE Macan, I do wonder if Porsche will offer a four-litre version of the new car.
They’ve had plenty of time to re-engineer the new platform to take an ICE powertrain. I’m sure they’d have no difficulty selling a new GT4 for a six-figure price.
I don’t think there have been any ICE prototypes spotted under testing? So maybe not. I wouldn’t be surprised though if it did happen.
