First car?

I just got my license and I'm looking to buy my first car. I'd like it to have a sporty look and cost under 5,000 (pre-owned, of course). I was looking at the Hyundai Coupe. If anyone has any recommendations for that car

For 5k you are not getting a sporty car if you want it to last more than a year
BeautifulSundae6988@reddit
If your budget is five thousand, you're gonna want to look hard for a 20 year old Corolla, Camry, Civic or accord.

This is the US? It will be hard to find a car under 10k. What you can find is a car under 5k that needs at least 3k worth of work.
Mini cooper https://www.autotempest.com/results?localization=country&make=mini&maxmiles=95000&maxprice=5000&model=allcooper&zip=90210
Mazdas https://www.autotempest.com/results?localization=country&make=mazda&maxmiles=95000&maxprice=5000&minprice=2000&minyear=2010&transmission=auto&zip=90210
Both come to mind

Mini coopers is an absolutely horrible suggestion
TheMightyBruhhh@reddit
why are you suggesting coopers..?
maybe its just me but theres way better sporty-casual and also reliable cars under $5k

What you’ll u recommend then?

I live in Europe, but thank you for the suggestions
jrileyy229@reddit
You do not want any kind of sub 5000 Hyundai.
Heavy-Product-5878@reddit (OP)
Could you explain why?
Mysterious_Art2278@reddit
Theyre garbage
jrileyy229@reddit
Most of them are going to be money pits. If you do get one, you want the 4 cylinder, not the 6.
They're not inherently bad cars... They just weren't quite as good as Hondas and Toyotas of the time... Which is why they were cheaper and marketing at teenagers who wanted something different than the Honda their parents drove.
Which then begins the spiral of they typically have changed hands across multiple teenagers over the past 15 years, multiple people who have no idea about cars and only do repairs when there's a severe failure... Thus keeping the cycle going
Heavy-Product-5878@reddit (OP)
What cars would you recommend then?
jrileyy229@reddit
Anything japanese
Curious_Kirin@reddit
The Getz is Toyota levels reliable but it's not sporty nor in North America
Brilliant-Onion2129@reddit
Don’t get a sporty car! Cops look hard at sporty cars with young drivers, they run your plates and find a reason to pull you over. And most importantly KIDS DESTROY CARS! You are no different get a cheap car to learn how to drive because you don’t know how to drive yet!

Why of why do you ask questions on reddit where the majority of the people answering are american. Hyundai and Kia tend to be more reliable and less maintenance here than Toyota or Honda. I say go for it. Ir you could look at something like the VW Scirocco peugeot RCZ, but the hyundai is okay too. The engines last forever

I think the Hyundais in Europe were built-in different factories than many of the ones sold in the US, but I am not sure about that. If rhat's true, quality may be better.
There are lots of small cars in Europe that were never sold in the US. One of those with a manual transmission is probably the way to go. "Sporty" is personal taste, but get something reliable... a hot car that doesn't drive is just disappointing.

I bought a 2008 hyundai tiburon as my first for 3k USD. Its a 4 cylinder 4 speed auto. Its literally the slowest thing I have ever driven, and is kinda falling apart now, but it's going strong at 160,000 miles. Honestly, would recommend.
Heavy-Product-5878@reddit (OP)
Funny you still recommend, I heard it consumes a lot?
New-Dot-2915@reddit
I think I get around 18mpg, so not the best. I also drive like an idiot so😂
Terps0@reddit
please don't get a theta motor
Heavy-Product-5878@reddit (OP)
Any models that look sporty while being on the cheap side?
