ULPT: My neighbor has begun beekeeping and doesn’t keep water out for them ... We share a fence and his bee hive is right against the fence. The city won’t do anything, and my kids can’t play in our yard without getting swarmed by bees and have gotten stung twice.

Ultra unethical? Put out some neonicotinoid pesticide, mix it up in small amounts with sugar water. Make sure this is the only easy water source nearby. Over time, time depending on dosage, this will kill the queen and other bees, causing colony collapse disorder. Your neighbor will then look/feel like an absolute jackass for failing to care for bis beehive, and all the bees will be dead, preventing them from stinging your kids.

KingBooRadley@reddit
A very smoky and prolonged fire right by the fence will force the bees out but not kill them all. Punish the neighbor, not the bees.
JustTheTip_Chill@reddit
Put a drop or two of Termidor SC in a bowl full of sugar water. It will kill the hive. (It will actually kill all the hives in the area.)

Find a lawyer who takes civil tort cases and start sending official letters about negligent hive placement and private nuisance. Document the stings. Beekeepers often aren’t responsible for stings unless they’re doing something negligent like failing to give water or failing to take reasonable steps when told that the bees are causing harm to children.
Your state may also have a “state apiarist” who oversees beekeeping. ULPT: report a suspicion that the bees are diseased and request an inspection.
FineScratch@reddit
Someone in my neighborhood has bees.
They are constantly at my pond.
But we have pond rules. The bog filter has diffent levels and they like the lava rocks.
I fish out bees i see in the water and so far, no stings.
Uhhhmazing@reddit
A friend was having the same problem. The neighbor refused to move the hive further away, got to the point he wouldn't even talk to her. Complained to the city enough times but no one did anything or got back to her. Well eventually (after like a year of her trying to resolve it) the neighbor decided to move his bees INSIDE THE HOUSE. Well the bees swarmed him and he passed away. Only then did the city reach out to her and apologize for not stepping in sooner.

Basically you’re going to want to go ahead and get 8-10 drones, nothing too expensive. Then get some ziplock plastic bags, maybe 30 or so should be fine. Nothing too strong , in fact relatively weak ones are better.
For 3/4 of the drones, you’re going to clip two bags to them. In one bag, fill it to them brim with bleach. ZIP IT UP. Then, In the other, white vinegar. Zip it up!
For the remaining 1/4 of drones, you’re going to attach two bags and fill each bag with bang snaps.
At a time of your choosing, but for maximum effect sometime between 3:30-4:30am, you’re going to fly the bleach/vinegar drones through his window and crash them into an interior wall. Then you’re going to go ahead and do the same with the bang snaps drones. Tell no one. The next morning, forget your cell phone in the way to work. Drive by a megamart store and dispose of the drone remotes in one of their dumpsters. Tell no one.

Beekeeper here... So this advice is evidence based.
First, him totally ignoring you is a liability minefield. Get a lawyer to draft a letter for you. This might frighten him into responsibility.
Bees like specific water. Pool water seems to be their favorite. So he may be setting out water, but they like yours more. What they do not like is low surface tension. Think soapy spray bottles.
Next, he is doing this for natural honey, most likely. Set up a drip feeder with a blue syrup for snow cones. The bees will love it and his honey will be littered with blue dots. This will be very disappointing to him.
Other things you can do is make the habitat less welcoming for the bees. Set a smoker on your side of the fence and cook a lot all the time. A water mister near the fence. Soapy water sometimes... Anything with changing strong odors. Note that some of these things may make the hive "hot" with consequences for both you and him. But long enough and they will abscond. (Leave for greener pastures.)
Surreywinter@reddit
Another beekeeper her - the blue syrup is a really good idea.
There was a famous case in France a few years ago where bees found the waste from M&M manufacturing & their honey turned out blue & green

i just read a story on reddit a few days ago, local beekeepers noticed red honey, which led to an investigation of a local cherry processing plant, which wasnt dealing with its waste properly. they found a massive cannabis facility in the basement.

Brooklyn, I believe, twenty years ago.
Cilantro368@reddit
I heard a similar thing about bees (in Brooklyn?) feeding at a factory that makes maraschino cherries. Red bees, red honey!
MiaYYZ@reddit
bad news for them - the red attracted law enforcement who found a grow up in their underground
ChaplainParker@reddit
I was going to suggest red, make him think he has vulture bees!
HoustonBOFH@reddit
A beekeeper I know gets it from a snow cone truck near his hives...
commandrix@reddit
Right, I was just thinking, find a way to make the hives uninhabitable for the bees and they'll probably leave the hives permanently. It's best if you do it in a way that doesn't look like you're directly vandalizing the hives because that can lead to criminal charges. But doing something in your own backyard that bees don't like is perfectly legit. ("Unethical" isn't always the same thing as "illegal.")
SubBass49Tees@reddit
I've heard that bee pheromones can do wonderful things as well. Could they be loaded into a super soaker squirt gun and sprayed along the roofline of said neighbor's house to encourage a new hive location?
HoustonBOFH@reddit
Now you are getting into illegal lpt... And he can just move them himself.
After-Fee-2010@reddit
Setup empty hives and steal the queen, the rest of the colony will follow her. Sell your newly established hive for profit.
zzzzbear@reddit
put out your own hives with sexier lady bees that entice his hoard to come be your bees
theyre there regardless, now you got the honey
kicaboojooce@reddit
Smoke them out.
Fans - get a couple of the big 4ft industrial fans and point at his fence line, that will help.

One of my buddies had a similar issue, and got one of those giant bug zapper things and managed to get a queen bee to put near it (courtesy of a local pest control company). A week later his neighbor tried short circuiting it with a garden hose, which my buddy caught on video. They went to court and my buddy made $50k off of it, with the neighbor being forced to sell his house and eventually move away.
ShittyPlumber@reddit
This is probably OP best bet considering he asked for Unethical. Get the queen bee (Can't you order em online?) and the bug zapper and set up the live cam. Do us a favor tho and post the video....after you sued him for sabotage.
Surreywinter@reddit
Beekeeper here: By all means buy a queen bee (yes, you can just buy one online - about £40) but its not going to have any effect on a hive nearby. Neighbouring bees will pay it zero attention and even if you were to be brave enough to open the hive up unsuited and pop her inside, all that will happen is that they'll unfortunately just kill her.
ShittyPlumber@reddit
Isn't trying to kill the new queen the point? She comes in one of those vented boxes. You place her by the bug zapper. Other bees smell her? Do bees smell? Then zaps the bees coming to kill her.
Surreywinter@reddit
Waste of time - bees don't get abnormally attracted to other hive's queens in cages.
A dollop of honey now, that would attract them.
Hairy-Piccolo-6002@reddit
What if the other queen bee is smoking hot?
SeafoodSampler@reddit
There’s a product called Termidor SC. It’s a non-irritant; you can spray the bees directly and they won’t attack you. Spray areas they land on and they will bring the chemical to the hive. It will turn the hive into a ghost town in 3 days.
You can feasibly spray this on your property and they’ll bring the poison back with them. This would be the easiest way to take care of the situation without dousing the bees directly. I doubt you can get in much trouble for treating your own property for bees.
No_Sun9675@reddit
You are all going about this the wrong way!
First, watch some YouTube vids on beekeeping... then go and get a hive of your own and steal his bees!

Find another bee keeper who would be willing to parlay in your favor to move the hive and be a better keeper. Bees aren’t something you should deal with unethically, we need to not kill/harm the bees.
SoftwareWorth5636@reddit
Honey bees are not at risk. It’s bumble bees and other types of bees that are in decline.

Would you still like to send murder hornets into a bunch of bees just because they aren’t endangered? I’m saying send someone who is actually a responsible keeper to tell them hey this is what you need to do.

Cranky_Platypus@reddit
Yet another beekeeper here. Can you set up a sprinkler that just happens to spray too far and goes over the fence? Bees don't like to go out in the rain and beekeepers don't like working bees in the rain. Bonus is that the grass around the hives will grow faster and bees don't like the vibrations from weed whackers and will go after him.
wishiwasholden@reddit
Get some sacrificial flowers and put insecticide powder on them, they’ll go pick it up like pollen and take it back to the hive.

Get one of those gazing balls that used to be (inexplicably) popular and put it nearby. They set his beehive on fire with a blowtorch (a small one) and say “o man the sun must have reflected off this ball and set your beehive on fire o no at least it wasn’t your house.”
SubBass49Tees@reddit
Buy yourself a smoker and put it just on the other side of the fence. Be sure to smoke meats daily.
Slow and low. Maximum smoke cloud.
You can also add an industrial fan to blow the smoke in the direction of the fence. Not too high.. just enough to keep the smoke blowing on the hive.
One_Impression_5649@reddit
Find the queen and move the entire colony out into the wild somewhere… like your neighbours car, or you neighbours garage, or you neighbours mail box or your neighbours front door…. Or their bedroom!
flaviusUrsus@reddit
That would imply opening the hive and look for the queen, might not be very stealthy :D
