Did I get ripped off?
Posted by me-ow_sos@reddit | Firearms | View on Reddit | 90 comments

I have spent $1,000 on these 3 guns. Glock 43, beretta 92s and dpms A15 panther.
All are unfired but used and came with mags in the photo. Did I get a good deal or ripped off? Curious as this is my first ever gun purchase.
SierraDespair@reddit
Not at all.
FckingAnxiety@reddit
Guessing carried? The Beretta appears to have holster wear on the slide.
Verum14@reddit
ngl if a seller told me they were carried but never shot i wouldn’t believe them
whatsgoing_on@reddit
I just automatically don’t believe anything is actually unfired. Not like round counts even matter till you get into the 5 figure range anyway and most people won’t ever even put 1k through their guns.
moebiusgrip@reddit
Uhhh… I put like 200rds a week through my 9mm… am I shooting too much? When does a pistol barrel wear out?
whatsgoing_on@reddit
The barrel? Hundreds of thousands. I have ~60k through my carry gun and 20k-50k through all of my competition guns and they still work as good as new with some small parts being replaced as they wear. Just the finish on the slide is looking rough.
Gzoe467@reddit
So whats alll this hubub with all these competition shooter being finnicky with fouling, break in periods, and saying their barrells having to be changed after 5k shots. I agree with you 100% but there seems this surge of "professional" shooters saying you need to do all of this and change barrels frequently its crazy.
moebiusgrip@reddit
Oh ok. Thank you. I know the barrel on my rifle is toast relatively quickly. Tikka in 6.5, but I didn’t think about the pistol.
whatsgoing_on@reddit
6.5 is a barrel burner. My PRS barrels get replaced after just 3k rounds.
moebiusgrip@reddit
oh wow that seems quick. I just have the stock barrel on it.
whatsgoing_on@reddit
For competition, I generally get a new barrel once it starts approaching 1 MOA.
Gzoe467@reddit
Well seeing how they have to put atleast one bullet through it for qulity control its atleast had a shot put through it.
Chrisscott25@reddit
I had a guy trying to sell me a rifle that”had less than a box of ammo through it” I looked down the barrel with a light to check rifling and it was slicker that a shotgun. By unfired maybe they meant it hasn’t ever been set on fire…
Plastic_Struggle_104@reddit
Eh my shield needed work at around the 7.5k mark. And that's generally considered a reliable choice of handguns.
whatsgoing_on@reddit
There’s consumable parts like springs or slide stops that may need replacing, but anything else is either a fluke or an indicator of poor design.
If your Shield needed anything besides a consumable part, I’d say that was more likely a fluke than the rule.
Vulcan_Armory@reddit
Those are looking pretty beat up for being not fired 🤷♂️
Chrisscott25@reddit
I had a guy trying to sell me a rifle that”had less than a box of ammo through it” I looked down the barrel with a light to check rifling and it was cleaner that a shotgun. By unfired maybe they meant it hasn’t ever been set on fire…
FckingAnxiety@reddit
I'd believe some people buy guns for certain tasks, never train with those guns or shoot them recreationally, and carry the guns but never have to do those tasks. Same way that a lot of people who keep fire extinguishers in the kitchen don't put them somewhere accessible, don't read the instructions, perhaps don't even know what class of extinguisher they need.
I'd find that harder to believe from the mouth of a seller, but that's just my guess as to what constitutes "used but unfired".
Larrythegunguy454@reddit
Probably pre-owned would have been a better word.
trucknorris84@reddit
Wasn’t purchased new from dealer. Sat in a safe for a few years.
Gzoe467@reddit
All are ungired but used 🤔🤔🤔🤔
_NotmyShadow_@reddit
I wouldn't say so.
Looks like a solid deal tbh
What was the details of the deal? Someone selling a late relatives inventory?
me-ow_sos@reddit (OP)
An old guy selling off a collection of 33 various guns i found on a local forum. I picked the only 3 guns that were in like new unfired condition. Mainly because I don't know about guns yet. He wanted 1600 to start with but negotiated down to 1000 because I didn't need or want the optic that he had on the carbine
arfarf15@reddit
Might be worth going back to see if he’s got any hidden gems in the remaining lot. Future you might be happy you did.
WhiterunWarriorPrjct@reddit
Curious what the optic was that he cut the price that much
IronWolf427@reddit
I admire the haggling. You must teach me your ways
ArceusTwoFour_Zero@reddit
That's not a bad deal, assuming I want every gun in the bundle.
Bargelton95@reddit
An AR in Massachusetts goes for 5000 now I'd say you got a steal
the_spacecowboy555@reddit
What?!?! I don’t know Mass gun laws but I assume ARs are banned and those are for ones grandfathered in?
Icy_Conference7107@reddit
Yes “preban “ rifles go for a premium they had to be instate before the ban so there are only so many
the_spacecowboy555@reddit
Wow. That would suck if you got relocated for a job. What about mags? Are those just outright banned?
TheGreatTesticle@reddit
Lots of people will live in New Hampshire and work in Mass. I'd hate to even work there, but that's what I'd do.
Icy_Conference7107@reddit
if mags are instate before the ban they are allowed. After the ban 10 rounds is considered “large capacity” so that’s all we can have.
the_spacecowboy555@reddit
I assume you had to serialize your magazines in that case?
Icy_Conference7107@reddit
No we don’t have to do that.
moebiusgrip@reddit
Quick question though, is a .223 ranch rifle ok in Massachusetts?
Icy_Conference7107@reddit
Yes like a mini 14 is good to go only 10 round mags tho
moebiusgrip@reddit
Ehh im in california, thats normal here
definitelynotpat6969@reddit
Yikes, sorry brother.
Kentuckywindage01@reddit
Interesting… I could pay off some debt…

SetNo8186@reddit
"Unfired but used?" Seems you got them at a used price so not a bad deal. $300 a gun and $8 a mag is ok.
Shadow_Reaper62804@reddit
I'm jealous
SchrodingersGoodBar@reddit
Had you bought these new, you’re probably looking at like 2500. If you’re in CA probably like 6000.
Pretty good deal.
CptBiscuits@reddit
Not too bad actually
_Hashtronaut_@reddit
Id say that was a pretty good deal. Enjoy 👍
deformedcactus@reddit
No, not at all.
That 92 is also a 92SB, a pretty limited production run in the 80’s. They no longer make 92’s with the rounded trigger guard, they all have the squared off FS shape. I bought a 92SB for that reason. They’re not really worth more or less than a regular 92, but still cool nonetheless. Yours is in rough shape BUT looks like it has the original bluing. My understanding as well was that the SB series were the last 92’s made with a blued slide.
I really wouldn’t stress, you got a good deal, all 3 are very solid firearms, all great shooters!
solventlessherbalist@reddit
Good deal for sure bro! Go shooting!
Mltdjgm@reddit
Looks like a hella solid deal to me. The only other deal I’ve seen like it is at PSA. You can get their brand rifle and handgun combo for like 700? I think. You definitely made out here!
2footgiant@reddit
Thats an old 92, looks like an Italian/European model with the old style mag release
MostlyOkPotato@reddit
What does “unfired but used” mean? lol.
In any case, it’s a good deal. Especially with the extra mags.
Wildcard556@reddit
I wouldn’t pass it up
RacerXrated@reddit
Those are all good to go. Nice. 👍
blaster271@reddit
3 guns and all those mags for $1k? Wish I had deals like that coming my way
Field-brotha-no-mo@reddit
Nah that’s just a hundred or so below market probably just speculation
VorkathVixen@reddit
Solid deal
KccOStL33@reddit
No way that 92 is unfired.. Lol
Scared_Zucchini_8704@reddit
Was the guy who sold them to you smoking crack or did he mention anything about them being involved in a murder 😭
pavehawkfavehawk@reddit
Not a bad deal. That 92s looks properly used hahah. Excellent patina
Holiday-Hyena-5952@reddit
Ya did fine. Pat yourself on the back and smile. No go get some ammo and get to the range!
Interesting-Win6219@reddit
Not bad for your first purchase.
deadface008@reddit
Here in Washington, we pay twice this much for half the value
Significant_View_250@reddit
I just don't feel this is a legit post. Of course it's a good deal.....you know it is. As for the rest, used but unfired? Sometimes my friend you just have to do your best without seeking the approval of others. We all work hard for our money.....if a deal makes you happy... Let it make you happy. I hope it did so.
WhocaresToo@reddit
How do you not know? I mean you paid the price they wanted no? Of course it's a decent deal yep
SaintJohnIII@reddit
Solid deal, especially for the pistols. The AR isn't a good one at all, but you can at least learn how to use/maintain one with it, and that's worth what little you paid for it.
catnamed-dog@reddit
Say 300 for 92, 300 for the 43 (with a comp and likely threaded barrel), 400 for the AR, and maybe $200 worth of used mags.
I'd say that's a solid deal if I wanted the bundle.
me-ow_sos@reddit (OP)
It's a wheaton arms barrel on the glock but the slide I'm not sure there are no markings at all but it does have the window cut on top
DEIhire@reddit
The Wheaton arms barrel is a really good choice. I paid around $220 for mine.
DEIhire@reddit
Look at it like this, you have $350 in the beretta, $300 in the Glock 43, $300 in the panther and $50 worth of magazines.
$1000 is a good deal no matter how you look at it.
trucknorris84@reddit
Good rap
MArkansas-254@reddit
Seems like a good deal.
Gardener_Of_Eden@reddit
Good value if it all works.
LucidandConvoluted@reddit
"I'd make that deal"
giarcnoskcaj@reddit
Depending on the year, that panther is probably worth it on its own. They were very good from mid 2000s. Heard their quality dipped off around 2012-2015. I have an older one and its been an amazing rifle. I should have probably upgraded the trigger, but im used to the 7lb pull. The rest is probably another grand.
s_mart6@reddit
That's a solid deal
marksman1023@reddit
Nope. You could recoup your cost at a gun show near you and then some.
theRealDirtyNerd@reddit
Nawp
StephenWhoDat@reddit
Great deal. Although, I have no clue what “unfired but used” means.
me-ow_sos@reddit (OP)
It's not considered brand new unless it's bought at the gun store i assumed
Comfortable_Guide622@reddit
That's what I'd say. Good deal
MysteriousOriginal80@reddit
No im my area theres guys trying to seel their psa dagger for 450 bucks lol
tgpussypants@reddit
Right? I saw a stock Dagger on TGT for $500.
lone_star_kev@reddit
Very good deal
Important_Ad7565@reddit
Why would you complete the deal before knowing if it’s a rip off. It’s 2025 that’s a deal.
THEMFCORNMAN@reddit
Decent deal especially with the Italian police berretta. Cool oddball find
BruceRorington@reddit
I mean depending on the wear and tear, but no good price.
Exact-Event-5772@reddit
Ripped off? Nah.
Muth4741@reddit
ar15 = $4-500, G43 = $300, 92s = easily $2-300 so you’re good to go
Capable_Line_823@reddit
good deal imo
glockteamcustoms@reddit
Seems fair honestly
skandi1@reddit
I don't think you got ripped off
