It’s the End of the World as We Know It - REM. At least the Leonard Bernstein line.
MangoesSurpriseMe@reddit
That and “eye of a hurricane” or whatever he says.
Western-Bug-2873@reddit
I had that song on a homemade mix CD years ago and learned all the words but alas, it's mostly gone now.
MangoesSurpriseMe@reddit
That’s amazing! I don’t know anyone who actually learned the lyrics, whether or not they had the album.

What's cool is even today, when the band or DJ plays these, EVERYBODY, no matter what Gen sing to it.
Call_Me_Papa_Bill@reddit
Early 80s, college, popular fraternity used to have monthly keg parties. Nice guys, everyone went. One of the members would DJ. When it was time to close down the party, house lights would go down (just night lights on in each room) and he would play American Pie. Everyone sang along as they walked slowly out of the house, then sang the final verse standing on the lawn/porch. It was so awesome.

On City Walk at Universal Studios is a bar called Howl at the Moon. It's a dueling piano bar that plays this song every time and the entire bar belts it out. It's now a "must do" whenever we go back.

Yeah. I don’t listen to country, but I know every single word to this song I heard it so much growing up in Oklahoma in the 80’s and 90’s
Jed308613@reddit
Lol. Do we know each other?
Realreelred@reddit
I sang it in a county jail common room with 30 other guys. The guard that night was a former Texas Ranger. He came in and told us to quiet down. I said, "Sir, we're sorry. Even though we are in Pennsylvania, we're all just rebels at heart. " He laughed, and we (blacks and whites) kept singing and watched the rest of the live concert. Shit place, guys on hard times, but we were together.

My mom has a very similar story from her teen years getting thrown in the drunk tank. This made me smile!

I have lived an incredible life. Truly blessed by family friendships.
Texas_Mike_CowboyFan@reddit
Well, hells bells, we need some highlights.
Realreelred@reddit
I've seen all the stars in the sky in the middle of a desert. I've had lowlights and highlights. My wife and family are great. I touched a desktop in my senior year while my entire class held hands, and I shocked about 25 kids. I traveled to Nasa with a flight coordination crew from Houston Control as a college press reporter. That is an early decade of a 58 year old. Life's been great.

But that song would always get people singing - especially in Boston in the 90s

Sweet Caroline I Want it That Way Drift Away
gcwardii@reddit
My husband and I chaperoned our daughter’s HS choir trip to NYC last year. A guy at our stop for the subway was singing I Want It That Way and all 35-ish choir kids joined in. It was a highlight of the trip! But also so sad when our train arrived, and we all had to get on and the song just fizzled out.

Love Shack.
I love The B-52’s, but holy fuck do I despise this song. Being from GA doesn’t help LOL.

Either that or Deadbeat Club. Channel Z is probably my favorite track, but yeah, Cosmic Thing is an incredible album.

Thank God I'm a Country Boy - if you live close to Baltimore or in Baltimore, this is a big one as it's Cal Ripken's theme song. Unfortunately, I don't like this song.

Yea? I live in Texas and have my whole life. I like classic country, including HWJr ( and Jr Brown for that matter), but I have rarely- very rarely- ventured into a country bar. I know the song well, but can’t imagine at what point the crowd yells it. Where exactly?

I'm in that video!!!! I was 13, the Cult open for him, they asked anyone who wanted to be in the video to stay in the audience. When it was all said and done, we got turned around trying to leave the parking lot and drove around right past the tour bus. I hopped (ran) out of a slowly moving vehicle when I saw him come out the back door walking towards the bus. I got a hug, a kiss on the cheek and an autograph! My aunt was freaking out. All she knew is I bailed out of the car. Took her a minute to figure out what was going on. One of the best nights of my life!!

Yes! We had a bar in college that hosted an early opening on game days at 5 am, but you needed to line up at like 3. Pitchers of screwdrivers and fuzzy navels for $5. Played Piano Man at 9 am to close it down and everyone was so drunk by then that it was a love fest of signing.

Van Morrison’s Brown Eyed Girl. I was in New Orleans late one evening and stopped to listen to a street musician playing violin. There is a big summer festival every year in my hometown. My parents hosted a huge gathering of family and friends every summer and this year was bittersweet because my mom passed in January and dad in 2019 so it looked like the last year for it and the house may be sold by next year.
I had to leave before things fully wound down because I was wiped out but I have a video I will treasure forever, of everyone, from the octogenarians down to the youngest kids, all swaying with arms around each other singing along to “Piano Man” at the top of their lungs.

I saw Pink this past year, mind you a good chunk there was GenX and millennials. She had some DJ opening for her playing his mix and everyone was meh, waiting for Pink. He went on to the next cut and the entire arena just kept singing living on a prayer
