I totally did both me and my brother had one. We loved playing and pretending we were racing each other. Trash talk and all! Ahhh those were THE DAYS!!
I had it & thought it sucked. Honestly I didn't like alot of the gadgets/toys of that era: speak & spell, view master, Teddy ruxpin (talking mickey mouse variant), space invaders & football portable videogames, tiger electronics, etch a sketch, digital etch a sketch.
I did however like Gi-Joe, Transformers, He-Man, Voltron. And I collected Garbage Pail Kids but thought they were gross. And sports cards even though I didn't care about sports. Cross-Fire was awesome. Hungry-Hungry Hippos was meh.
Casio PT-1 mini keyboard was OK.
Commodore 64 was OK.
NES was awesome.
Gameboy, I was obsessed.
I did. And my parents had a pull out chair that I could fold onto itself, so in my 4 year old head it looked exactly like a car. I'd sit there with this wheel for hours and hours. Core memory.
Yes. And any other dashboard like toy. Then we would pick up free broken electronics and appliances at the dump swap shed and I'd take them apart and nail all the switches and knobs and such to wooden planks, which I think used to build fort cockpits in the woods.
Now I manifest that childhood joy with guitar effect pedal boards and by building mechanical keyboards. And by driving my car, zoom zoom.
Ive been looking for one so I can put a raspberry pi and put all racing games like this guy did.

This is what I came here to say too!
I love road trips. When I'm driving at nite, I get flashbacks of playing this game and it always gives me good feels. I think the white lines on the road directly ahead of me are what does it
It was a bucket list toy, I was too poor…I had some cool shit, but not this, I saw them at the store or on tv and knew about them but never got to play with one
I have it now…

Seriously, riding this thing, feels like that, almost.
So much fun.
I had one at my mom's house. When I was little my brothers and I would fly to her house every summer and the first thing I did was play with that when I got to her house.
We were literally just talking about Tiger Handhelds a few mins ago. Mind you it’s cuz we were talking about getting a rice cooker but my buddy was like “that Tiger”?! Then we got into the discussion about what was the best one when we realized they are all trash but we have love for them cuz we played the shit out of them back in the day. I had the Double Dragon and Street Fighter ones.
I never had an interest in them mostly because I always found the displays incredibly hard to see even as an 8 year old. Most of the games it was hard to understand how to play, the buttons felt like you had to mash em really hard to make it work, and we had an Atari at home.
My old man had one since before I was born and I learned on Pole Position and QBert and Berserk. When he had quarters to burn he’d take me to the arcade and hold me up to the machines so I could reach to play.
By the time these handheld games were popular in like 2nd and 3rd grade, we had a Nintendo. By like 4th or 5th grade we had a game boy. I always felt like These really sucked in comparison.
I wanted it every year the jc penney’s/sears catalogue came. However, my parents lack of education and ability to earn money prevented me from getting it.

Just recently discovered this picture of me as a kid. Probably why I’m such a good driver 🤪
Definitely.
And it was always the helm when I turned one of our beds into a spaceship. Plastic cash register, speak & spell, and anything else I could get my hands on with buttons were other controls on the ship.
