Ideally, you should always slow down, but this is the second-best option if you can't.

You know using those arms that swipe away the water from the glass might have helped ☝🏻
JayGT1@reddit
Idiot .. this is exactly whu we are in this mess.. not one good reason for any of it!
Nearby-Border-5899@reddit
Dude was going way too fast for conditions
HipKat2000@reddit
You know what used to prevent things like this more often?? Ch 19 on the CB
Eastern_Ad_7163@reddit
Truckers using the radio? That would mean they can speak English to begin with which apparently is a lot for today standards!
HipKat2000@reddit
I wish there was a sad face reaction but you're not wrong
banglines@reddit
I'm not a trucker, but I bought a nice CB and had it installed in my SUV thinking there would be way more chatter on there! Always quiet unfortunately
HipKat2000@reddit
Times have changed I guess
Late-Nectarine5435@reddit
People don’t use it anymore because there is Waze , Google Maps and much more stuff.
HipKat2000@reddit
Which don't accurately or in a timely way tell you about road conditions, accidents, speed traps, etc
TruckerBiscuit@reddit
That's why if I'm rolling it's on. I call out advisories for everything from big gators to full-growns. Might be nobody's listening but that's their problem. Feels good to get a "thank you driver" come back though.
Few-Solution-4784@reddit
As an alert has the high-beam quick flash gone out of style also?
Southern_Talk_7838@reddit
Same, plus calling out them smokie bears trying to catch you on the downhill like Virginia was doing today on I-64.
Hell, West Virginia Turnpike just before the first toll booth southbound you have that hard 90 degree turn. Broken down vehicle in the right lane just after the turn with traffic coming to a full stop right around the curve. I'm surprised there's no news article of a wreck there today.
Gr00veChild@reddit
Some of us younger/newer drivers are doing our best to utilize them, definitely not enough in general though.
HipKat2000@reddit
I guess since I got off the road a long time ago, CH 19 isn't what it used to be. Good on people like you keeping it alive
TruckerBiscuit@reddit
Preserving and extending trucker culture is a passion of mine, ridiculous as it sounds. "Rage, rage against the dying of the light!"
HipKat2000@reddit
Nope, not ridiculous. I wanted to drive a truck when I was a kid, in the 70s, and finally got behind the wheel in the late 80s. Bought my own in 2000 and stupidly got off the road in '05. It was the culture and lifestyle that I miss every day, and I've thought about coming back, but that life I knew 20 yrs ago seems to be gone today :(
voicareason@reddit
19 is great, but how do you determine the useful from the Mud?
LuckyLystrosaurus@reddit
Deciphering
"West bound mile 48 has some stopped traffic both lanes slow down drivers"
From
"Hmmna grrrr rest bun Lyle ore tee tate gots buncha fore heelers can't fuckin drive sittin there soe kin in der rain dem der in fuckin uhhhhhh rest bun Burtha lanes dur stoppin gon caus some big ol fuckin wreck"
AND ON TOP OF THAT GUY you have to hope the guy saying
"Joe Biden invented traffic to help him harvest adrenochrome from our children!!"
Isn't just totally covering up the band with his shit
I'll just drive right so I can keep ol CB gagged like it should be
HipKat2000@reddit
That's sad. 19 used to be the lifeline for info
Southern_Talk_7838@reddit
You get a few on there who have home HAM setups who refuse to get off of 19. Many can't stand to listen to them, I keep it on loud enough to hear if something useful happens. I'll also continue the culture of warning other drivers of impending dangers, even if you never get a response.
HipKat2000@reddit
Yeah there were a few Ham guys back in the day, too. Annoying as hell
Down2EatPossum@reddit
I heard that guy quit, he back on the air again?
RipIt1021@reddit
Haven't heard him in months. Thank the gods.
voicareason@reddit
Nope. I haven't heard him in a bit, but there are others.
hoarder59@reddit
If you are using a CB for instantaneous driving decisions you need to quit.
HipKat2000@reddit
You must be one of the new steering wheel holder truck drivers...
hoarder59@reddit
I was, about 2.5 million miles ago. Gave up on the CB because there were too many idiots on there who thought it was still 1972 and called everybody who didn't sit on the floor driving a coffin-nose Pete a "steering wheel holder".
HipKat2000@reddit
hehehe.... lol
hootertransport@reddit
Rain X. Use it ,love it, and live. The extra sight distance will help you. You did the right thing.
dgregg2_@reddit
This is why moving accidents from travel lanes is a law.
FitAd6371@reddit
Can't always move. Should always be expecting everything to stop immediately in front of you and drive accordingly. I know we mostly dont, I admit it. And sometimes it bites us. When it does its 100% our fault.
EscapeWestern9057@reddit
True, but too many people get a fender bender and immediately stop in the travel lanes. If the vehicle can move, move it.
daemonescanem@reddit
Many drivers seem to think that the police don't want the cars moved as if it's a crime scene and must be preserved.
Drivers make it worse when they refuse to move cars and stand in traffic. Endangering themselves & everyone else.
EscapeWestern9057@reddit
This exactly, half the people out there seem to think their fender bender is the biggest deal crime of the century. I remember my mom being wildly offended when the cops wouldn't come out for her mild fender bender when someone hit the back of their old beater car, and by fender bender I mean like a slightly dent in the bumper.
joytotheworld23@reddit
Thankfully no one got hurt
erything4sale@reddit
My first accident was because someone was mad I was going slow in the rain and he sped around me, lost control, spun around and was in the middle of both lanes facing me. I was already slowing down but I was still going about 35mph as I didnt want to slam on my brakes or hard swerve and possibly flip or something. I did steer a bit off so I wouldn't hit him head on, I hit the side of his hood and I ended up in the trees and a ditch of water. His wife was yelling at him for being stupid which was deserved.
RealSharpNinja@reddit
Your truck has antilock brakes. Use them.
erything4sale@reddit
Well you slam on your breaks while bobtailing in the rain and let me know how that goes. I did use em just not at the first sign of danger. Im a pro for a reason.
RealSharpNinja@reddit
If you drive like this when bobtailed in the rain then you don't deserve a CDL.
erything4sale@reddit
No shit
Realistic-Order-3215@reddit
The ones the company I work for don't.
Lucius_Furius@reddit
How the hell is that legal in the US?
In Europe you can’t have a semi without ABS since 2004 and a trailer without it since 2007.
dissectingAAA@reddit
How did fault play out with insurance?
erything4sale@reddit
Not sure. I was pulled out the ditch and I resumed my trip. The other guy was cited and towed away. The police said it was his fault in the report. I was driving for an owner op while I was waiting for my other applications to go thru. I was only 1 yr in the game at this time, I wasnt even thinking about suing. I wasnt hurt plus it wasnt my semi. I know better now!!
Ok-Location-9544@reddit
How did does it show up on your DMV record? A naf accident?
erything4sale@reddit
All my accidents were non avoidable and thas how its shown on my dmv. All except my last one I could have killed those folks and thas what really messed me up mentally. My last accident, I was the one who could have died and please believe she was sued!!
SycoJack@reddit
Probably. But fault isn't nearly as important for truck drivers. Avoidability is.
Sounds like it wasn't avoidable, but safety departments are full of infallible truck drivers who don't have CDLs and have never set foot inside a truck. So you never know.
Gr00veChild@reddit
Yuppp unfortunately that truth alters how my driving risk profile.
Late-Recognition5587@reddit
That's the key, avoidability, its been drilled in my head by a trainer and stuck with me. "Accidents are avoidable mistakes". Its not just about my truck. I need to read the road miles ahead, behind and beside me constantly.
aStonefacedApe@reddit
What kind of American passes up a perfect opportunity to sue? Shit, my neck AND my back would've been hurting after that lol.
erything4sale@reddit
You are totally right but I was on a ghost log and I knew if the insurance company found out I wasnt getting shit anyway. I was more so happy I didnt kill them folks. It could have really been bad had I not did what I did.
Late-Nectarine5435@reddit
Officer would be like what the heck are you doin here and you say I’m doing picnic here. 😂
blueminded@reddit
Just out of curiosity, how do they get the truck out of there? Especially if it's fully loaded? Are there super buff tow trucks or something?
TheCanadianJD@reddit
No need for a “buff” tow truck, any old semi rated wrecker would be able to do the job. Just hook cable on and winch it back onto the road. If it’s too heavy just get another tow truck and they both pull.
Mack_Sparrow76@reddit
So was this avoidable?
long5210@reddit
what an idiot
Efficient_Ostrich_54@reddit
No. The best option is to slow down!
Few-Solution-4784@reddit
saved some lives on that one
InvstrJester@reddit
That’s the camera’s vision. If you have a view like that you should have been already creeping down the road in the right lane
EscapeWestern9057@reddit
Why are there 5 cars just randomly hanging out stopped in the road?
Discodoggyy@reddit
Why does anybody do any of the stupid things they do on the road?
VigilantCMDR@reddit
Right? Don’t get me wrong guys not saying the trucker was perfect here but anybody just stopping on the highway like that especially in the fast lane needs to lose their license too- move out of the way for everyone’s safety.
EscapeWestern9057@reddit
I had someone do that. I was following about 1/8 to a 1/4 of a mile back and at the time watching the car. They I think missed their exit and slammed on their brakes and I barely avoided hitting them.
The issue which people don't know exists or don't understand is that the eyes aren't a camera system. Instead you're living in a simulated existed your brain generated based on data it receives. But it's based on , not exactly made perfect. So when something isn't expected like a lone car in the fast lane coming to a stop for no reason, the brain will actually overwrite the data and correct the simulation for what it thinks is incorrect data. Or put another way, the stopped car gets animated by the brain to appear like it's still moving or not there or a combination of the two. This happens no matter how much you're paying attention. And it's why lane closures have so many warnings ahead of time to get you ready for it so your brain doesn't do this.
Certain_Still_324@reddit
WITNESS MEEEE!!!
Sada_Yukinaga_2@reddit
By the way the two black cars was road raging in the rain and caused this to happened there was a traffic capturing this whole event
Enough_Perspective_2@reddit
Did this happened near Dallas tx? I was there
Just_NickM@reddit
Why aren’t the windshield wipers going at all‽ you’re doing 65 in that rain without wipers?
Sailans@reddit
I think I saw this on the road 2 days ago. I can't remember where but it was somewhere near Dallas I just can't remember where. I saw this and a tow truck across the street.
homucifer666@reddit
If you can't see where you would need to stop in an emergency, you need to slow down.
Dead_Namer@reddit
Same goes for lights at night. It's amazing how many clips on here so people driving outside their stopping distance.
RealSharpNinja@reddit
Couldn't slow down? Idiot.
Ok-Indication-8992@reddit
Why weren't your wipers on?
tykaboom@reddit
That's the american way.
Kilesker@reddit
How come he didn't have his wipers on?
Unique-Delivery-1405@reddit
The camera is outside of wiperrange. Of you look really good in the lower left corner you can see them going as fast as they can
Kilesker@reddit
I was wondering if that was the case. Even tried to see that but missed it!
GoingNutCracken@reddit
Why is this guy's wipers not on?
Proof-Veterinarian98@reddit
I hope every 1 of those cars got a ticket for impeding the flow of traffic
OkSeaworthiness251@reddit
If he would of been going slower he could of got being the other truck in the right lane bum
Exotic_Macaron4288@reddit
Damn! You doubled down on the "of" instead of "have"
HeywoodJaBlowMe123@reddit
Why do i periodically see folks on reddit get a hard on when someone says “would of” instead of “would have” ? Lmao. I don’t see it anywhere else across social medias besides Reddit, it’s super odd.
Yes, i get it, it’s not the correct way with “would have”, but also… why do people on Reddit care so much?
Pretend_Ad_8465@reddit
Because correct grammar matters and it's not just on Reddit. It's a major pet peeve for many and rightly so.
HarpersGhost@reddit
To be exceptionally pedantic...
It's not a grammar issue; it's an orthography issue. They used "ofto represent the sound instead of "'ve" to represent the sound [əv].
You say that sentence out loud, there's absolutely nothing grammatically incorrect about it. It's just using different symbols to represent the sounds we are making.
Wouldn't be the first time. See "the" becoming "ye" through typographers not having a thorn and so changing the spelling. Or "catsup" and "ketchup".
HeywoodJaBlowMe123@reddit
It is just on reddit. Lol.
And someone else’s grammar online is a big pet peeve? Sheeeeshhh
tuigger@reddit
By typing out "could of" instead of "could've" you're taking away the entire point of using a contraction.
It's a somewhat new trend that needs to die, imo.
OkSeaworthiness251@reddit
Ok 👍 q
Dezzolve@reddit
Or if he would have been paying attention as well. Even on the camera covered in water the stopped vehicles are visible for nearly the entire length of the video. Had plenty of time to slow down slightly and get into that right lane.
OkSeaworthiness251@reddit
Your right.Even when I had a wide open and I mean WIDE OPEN (100+) truck I really didn’t speed too much unless I was out west or I was trying to get away from some foolishness. Right lane 65-68 all day.
LargeMerican@reddit
Fucking horrific! Not at all his fault. Why THE FUCK ARE THEY STOPPED IN A TRAVEL LANE?!
MikeBinfinity@reddit
Lmao. That's entirely his fault. You don't know why they are stopped in the right lane. I hope you dont have a CDL.
LargeMerican@reddit
I don't anymore lol.
thundercoc101@reddit
Yeah, the four-wheelers are dumb. But he should have been going way slower
MikeBinfinity@reddit
That speedometer on the bottom right is clocking him at 65. Him going off the road is entirely his fault. You shouldn't be driving at highway speeds while the road conditions are wet.
People are also asking why those cars didn't move off the road. You dont know the context of why they're there in the first place. For all we and the driver know, that accident just happened a minute before the driver got to it.
The moral of the story is he should've stayed behind the truck he was trying to pass and kept at a safe speed until the rain pass.
lankyevilme@reddit
Sure depends on the slope and depth of that shoulder, doesn't it?
chaoz2030@reddit
Still better to possibly kill yourself than to kill a bunch of innocent people because of your mistake
Snappingslapping@reddit
It's better to be safer and slower than lucky every damn day of the week.
sparr@reddit
It looks like the frontmost car is pulled out of the travel lane, but each car behind them is more int he travel lane, until the rearmost car is entirely in the travel lane. Front car has a small responsibility here, but the second car bears the brunt of it IMO.
skaldrir69@reddit
Well, he’s in a rut, huh?
erything4sale@reddit
Well deserved rut!
BlacksmithNervous635@reddit
Fair play to them.
